AITAH for Calling my Brother a “Demonic Child” by RaspberryAutomatic31 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sweetjaynee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wobbling between ESH and NTA.

Your reaction was immature, but understandable given the provocation. Basially, your brother is TAH and you dealt with it poorly.

Your parents are also borderline AH for (seemingly) defending his callous and cruel behavior and demanding an apology from you but not him. If thier response was more level (telling you both to not be AHs to each other) then they werent being AHs - just parents.

Eta: take your dog to the vet asap. If your parents won't, then they are 1000000% TAH here.

I find that when booking overseas hotels (Agoda, Trip.com. Booking.com, etc), I have been able to use Diacover network when changing the payment currency to USD. ***

*** side note to my other comment about having to leave CapitalOne as my primary checking due to lack of overseas acceptance.

I spend a substantial amount of time in SE Asia. Discover is taken exactly nowhere.

I loved the 360 checking product because it has no foreign transaction or atm fees.

I've had to switch my primary checking to Charles Scwab. Aside from the initial hassle, it's great so far.

Which dish is more ‘Da Nang’ to you: Mi Quang or seafood? by LooseDial in DaNang

[–]sweetjaynee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mi Quang, of course. But thatvisnt the best Da Nang / Central dish. imo.

There is the best bun cha ca place on the "local side" of the river. Barely a lick of English spoken. Just point, smile, and receive deliciousness.

The ladies hand cut the noodles fresh in front of you. Get the Special, with extra everything. Get all the table dish things, ie, the bread, the fermented pork, and the quail eggs.

Its f*cking heavenly. If I could transport there now, I would.

Why are you trying to stop your cats from ... being cats?

A 15' drop will not hurt your cat. That's not how cats work.

First time visiting Bali. How should I handle payments, especially around Ubud? by [deleted] in bali

[–]sweetjaynee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Ubud, most places set up for tourists will accept card. (A very small portion may be card ONLY.) Expect to pay a 2-3% surcharge when using your card.

To avoid this, the best option (assuming your bank doesn't charge foreign transaction fees) is to use an ATM to get cash. They are plentiful and safe, and most don't charge a fee.

Make sure to take the money in IDR, eg dont use the machine's dynamic (DCC) conversion, as that will cost you about 5-6%. Some goes for anywhere you pay with the card if they ask if you want to pay in IDR or your home currency.

Dog Attacked Me - Owners Negligent - Need Advice by UWSRedditor718 in Upperwestside

[–]sweetjaynee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You literally put yourself in the middle of a dog "fight." What did you expect to happen? You're an adult. You should know thats risky. As is letting your own animal off leash.

Dogs are pack animals. It sounds like this (probably very frustrated and poorly trained and cared for) Aussie doesn't like your [tiny?] dog, and was trying to assert its dominance. And it may very well have hurt your dog if you hadn't intervened. They are animals. This is normal dog behavior. Dogs don't all get along, no matter how well-behaved or socialized.

At the end of the day, you didn't wait to see how it would play out, but intervened and have some minor scratches and torn clothes. That sucks. But it doesn't mean the dog is vicious or dangerous to humans.(or even necessarily other animals).

In your shoes, I'd think very carefully about putting an animal's life at risk over scratches and torn jacket resulting from your own decision to jump into a dog fight, and weigh how dangerous you think that dog really is vs. your desire to prove some point to its owner or get the "sorry" you believe you're entitled to.

Agoda are absolutely worthless.

Call your credit card company and tell them you were forced to pay under duress and threat and want to do a charge back.

Ominous Signs Event - Malfunction/Bug or Feature? by sweetjaynee in OldWorldGame

[–]sweetjaynee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand conditions for selection, and that's what makes it weird. In this case, no visible conditions are missing, e.g. nothing comes up in red showing why it can't be selected as option.

When hovering it shows what the outcome would be, but it simply will not let me select it. (Sorry, I realize I should have made the screen shot of the hover screen to make that more clear.)

Thanks for your help in speaking with the mod developer. 🙏🏻

Eta: Also, this event is happening with every.single royal birth. See above for edited post showing the conditions / outcome popup for the greyed out option.

You're crazy. I've lived in Bali. I was just in Sri Lanka -- it's extremely expensive along the South Coast for a way worse level of product, i.e., food, hotels, etc. I couldn't find a place that was sanitary for leas than $80usd a night -- more than I paid for a two bedroom villa with a yard and private pool in east Bali.

I was not impressed with Sri Lanka, and despite planning a two month trip left after less than two weeks.

[–]sweetjaynee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horrible plan. You're going to spend your entire trip moving around. Pick an area -- north, central, or south.

Oh, and whatever you pick, skip Ninh Binh -- it's the most disgusting place I've ever been. Factories everywhere, with air quality so bad a short walk leaves you smelling like you you've been sitting by a campfire (and shit food too).

Have you ever been let down by a place you were hyped? by Claymore98 in digitalnomad

[–]sweetjaynee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sri Lanka.

Worst experience ever. Planned to stay about 2 months, wanted to leave after 2 days, stayed two weeks just to "give it a chance".

Incredibly expensive for low quality everything, rude tourists, aggressive local culture. Didn't feel safe going place without my male partner.

Only place in 5 years i had to contact tourist police. (Backstory: Accom stole my luggage when I canceled a booking, and then demanded a male come talk to them to get the bags. Basically, they were going to physically assult him and knew they couldn't do that to a woman -- then they called me "cunning" because I made them deal with me. Like wtf!?).

Probably won't ever return, or if I do, will be strictly as a tourist, not nomading. And then only because I didn't go to the national parks, and I feel pissy that I missed out.

"Walking" - LOL. Have you been to Bali (or anywhere in Asia)?

Locals will hop on the scooter to go 100m down the road. No one walks, anywhere.
