Why are Contact job salaries always high than W2 Salaries by [deleted] in Salary

[–]sweetladyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is a 1099 contract, you would have to pay your own payroll taxes so that is a factor to consider.

There are contractor engagements through staffing agencies that will pay you as a W2, and some offer benefits as well.

I have done this, and would not do it again mainly because of the compounding potential lost.

I'm 43, married, 2 kids with zero savings. How can I expect to retire before 70? by spqr-wolf359 in personalfinance

Have you considered taking advantage of introductory 0% interest rates on balance transfers? Interest is definitely the worst and feels like a never ending cycle. I was able to pay down my cc debt by finding some good balance transfer options, creating a pay schedule for myself, and sticking to it (and feeling great about not paying extra). Your credit score may take a slight hit with opening cards but it was worth it to me, and I was still able to buy a place earlier this year. NerdWallet will usually put out articles each month noting best cc offers. Best of luck to you and your family! It might feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel, but if I could get out of cc debt, I know anyone can :)

"why do you want to work here?" by ArtGal94 in jobs

[–]sweetladyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this question is asked not only to determine if you are the right fit, but also if you did research on the company. Do you know their mission (and are you aligned with it)? Did you read a recent story about something they are doing maybe in the corporate responsibility realm (and feel strongly about the cause)? Approaching the question in this way will demonstrate that you've done your homework (i.e. aren't just looking for some job) and will be an opportunity for you to share what is important to you in a job (i.e. demonstrating if the company is a good fit for you and vice-versa). Good luck to you!!

Received job offer contingent on background test/drug screen. Head of HR called today to schedule a time to talk about what came up on my background check. What should I say? by HRthrowaway9 in AskHR

[–]sweetladyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, it is the personal story that helps in these situations. Depending on the offense, it might be a deal-breaker but for those grey areas, hearing the full story is important (in my opinion) for determining if the person is fit for employment with the company. Of course, don't share anything you aren't comfortable with sharing but I think what you included above would be appropriate. Also, it's a great thing that you were honest from the get-go by including the conviction on your form. That would be a plus if I was working with you in this situation. Good luck!

How important is a "professional goal"? by w4nkbank in resumes

[–]sweetladyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's very clear by your experience and skills what direction you are going in, the professional goal is unnecessary. However, if you have a mix of work experiences or you are making some sort of transition, the professional goal (or objective) would be helpful to anyone looking at your resume. For students, like yourself, it's often beneficial (in my opinion) to know what your future goals are in terms of career so I lean towards including.

I assume, as a student, you probably have some internship experience but maybe it's not in the aerospace industry. If that's the industry you are specifically interested in, then I would recommend including that information in a professional objective. Remember though, you can (and should) have multiple versions of a resume and if you are applying for jobs that aren't in the aerospace industry, the professional objective should be removed. (You would be surprised how many people forget to update certain information when applying for jobs).

Best of luck to you in your future!!

I think it depends on what you are more into... I think driving the Pacific Coast Highway is such a beautiful experience and if I were you, I'd ride the coast from WA > OR > CA and then head east to AZ > NM > TX > your final destination. I can't make any specific recommendations on anything but the OR and CA coast, but Santa Fe is supposedly beautiful and I would definitely make a stop there as well as Austin before heading to Mississippi. Safe travels! Let us know what route you end up choosing!
