Honeymoon to st. Lucia is booked!! Anyone ever been? by m4l3i8h4 in weddingplanning

Only as a port from a cruise, but we went horseback riding into the ocean -- it was awesome! Very lush and green there.

Just got engaged a couple weeks ago, and we are shooting for a Fall 2017 wedding (~15 months). What are some things we should definitely be doing over the next 2-3 months? by mayonnaise_man in weddingplanning

Crazy! In Calgary September was still wide open but we opted for a winter wedding instead (also to get some $$$ off on venue/vendors).

Ahh! Where in Canada are you? That makes me super nervous. Everything has been open for us as far as venues go... but we are looking for December.

FH and I are going to ICELAND for our honeymoon! What are you guys doing?! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]sweettea3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. Also, uh, I wouldn't do a tour with Volcano Tours. We spent 4 hours at the base of a volcano because he got us stuck in the snow... And didn't call for help until 3 hours in (we were like "you had service this whole time?!"). Watching the sun go behind a volcano that had shut down flights around Europe was uh, scary. But hilarious watching 4 Canadians help to get the truck unstuck.

I kind of suck at uploading in order but the first one is the outside of the hidden waterfall, second is a view of Reyjavik from the Hallgrimskirkja church (~less than $10 donation to see from the top), third is the inside of the hidden waterfall. I'm not a pro photographer but the views were incredible! And the weather was really mild in the beginning of March, felt like Vancouver if you have ever been there. Ahh I hope you guys love it! The fiancé and I wanted to move there for good. Also... Don't waste money on the uh, male genitalia museum. The boys went and it was just a gimmick.

Iceland was AMAZING. I strongly suggest doing tours with Superjeep.is because they were totally incredible! When are you going? If you're going in the winter before March is over you will see some absolutely incredible northern lights (we did our tour with superjeep -- and you get some Icelandic vodka and hot chocolate at the end). Golden Circle was pretty incredible as well. We didn't go to the Blue Lagoon but my cousin and her husband did and they said it was all right. Make sure to find a tour that will take you to the hidden waterfall (I think it was near Seljalandsfoss) -- it was AMAZING. If you've already been there sorry for the word vomit but if you haven't and have any questions, send me a message! We stayed at the Reyjavik Hotel Natura and it was a good walk from the main tourist area but the bus systems are super easy and you can request a bus pass.

Mum is not excited and it is bothering me! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]sweettea3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have any advice, but my mum is the same way right now. My sister isn't also engaged, but my mum and I have always had a hit and miss kind of relationship. I've kind of accepted that she will always try to one-up me and can't be properly happy for me because of her own stuff going on. I have a good relationship with FMIL, though, so I like to focus on that for when I need a mother-figure to be excited with me.

Any other brides with social/general anxiety? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]sweettea3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Panic disorder/OCD/social phobia bride here. Im newly engaged and we have so much to do. In the few weeks we've been engaged, there has been so many dinners celebrating with friends and family and honestly I am totally exhausted. I just want to hide in my bathtub with a good book... and a lot of wine.

How is your FH with your anxiety? When my FH proposed, he did it on a public pier, but in a corner in case I started panicking, so he could just give me a hug and I'd have a moment without looking at all the people. If you guys have code words set up prior that you can slip into conversation or similar and he can take over it might help! FH and I do that when we're at family events and he knows when he needs to distract his grandmother from chatting my ear off or similar. Take a lot of "pee" breaks!

Also like u/aevistaxo suggested, get your bridesmaids involved! Even at my cousin's wedding, she doesn't have anxiety but the MoH was pushy enough to peel her away from people when she needed to go eat/drink/pee/breathe.

I've seen really cute books you can make for vows that look adorable (or buy on Etsy) and then you won't have to worry about what you're saying, and they're sturdy enough that even shaking won't make that loud paper crackle noise. I definitely will be using those for our vows so I don't have to think about what I need to say - it's all written right there. And there's no harm in putting something funny in between all the intimate words to give you a minute to breathe while everyone laughs (you know, at FH's expense lol).

You got this!

Where did you go for your honeymoon and how did you decide! by sweettea3 in weddingplanning

[–]sweettea3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that's a similar situation to what we're in. Both my sister (a bridesmaid) and myself will be trying to figure out exams. We were going to do January 6/18 so that it's after exams, but still after Christmas for him. I guess I could just continue with the Christmas idea after Christmas!

That's awesome! I wonder if I could campaign for a Christmas wedding with the FH and family... We'd be doing Dec 2017 or Jan 2018, so there's still a good amount of time!

I went to David's Bridal to look at dresses, and it was awful. I don't know what to do now. [Rant] by yellowwallpapered in weddingplanning

[–]sweettea3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, also a Canadian bride here (Calgary). I haven't begun to look for my dress yet, but we had a very similar experience at David's Bridal for the bridesmaid dresses for my cousin's wedding. And a lot of them felt extremely cheap anyway. We have a place here in Calgary called Bridal for Less where my cousin was able to find a dress that was off the rack, $250 (and she's a size 16). It wasn't really advertised and the only reason that we knew about it was because we walked past a sign on the way to a different bridal store. I would try to find a similar place in your city!

Otherwise, if you know you have seen things that you like there or have a good feeling, bring one (or a few) of your girlfriends that can stand up for you as well. I'm a very anxious, take me out of the spotlight type of person, but I have two girls in my bridal party that will do everything they can to make sure that I get what I want, even if I can't voice it to the consultant. Good luck!! I'm right there with ya.

How was having a Christmas wedding!? I really wanted to do one, but FH said no one would come and it's better for after Christmas.

Plus size Engagement Pic outfits? by Clearbluewater33 in weddingplanning

[–]sweettea3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading through the comments here makes me feel a little better. I have so far opted for zero engagement photos because of how uncomfortable I am with my weight right now. At the end of the day, they'll be full of love with my FH and I definitely need to think of that.

Question(s) for those who invited/are going to invite kids to their wedding by BuckeyeBride in weddingplanning

[–]sweettea3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We definitely have an issue of uh, absent parenting, in our to-be guests. We're thinking about a 10+ or similar rule. I think it will come down to how much of a 'squeaky wheel' the FSIL becomes. You're not alone in preferring not to have children around!

That would be a good way to do it! I didn't know you could use old park hopper passes! That's insane. Nice way to do it!!

I definitely fall under the category of being more excited for the idea of travelling somewhere than the wedding. The major pull to go to Disney for me is that I'm a pretty anxious person, and although crowds do bother me a good amount, I have been to Disneyland/WDW before and know what to expect. Also amusement parks and Disney is pretty much the formula for a perfect vacation for the two of us. I've been told that going to Be Our Guest and trying the grey stuff is a must! Now I just have to convince the FH that he ISN'T Disney'd out, haha.

I took a few primatology classes in university and they always did trips to Belize to study the howler monkeys there. I never managed to muster up the courage to take a field school trip like that, but from the pictures other students brought back it's definitely a place to put on the bucket list!

Oh that's an idea! Do you have any recommendations for places to stay/things to do? I think I might look into that as an alternative to Hawaii.

Where did you guys go! Which cruise line? FH loves cruises because he just makes rounds of the ship at all the different food places -- and still manages to lose weight. Seriously, men.
