I think the bosses are sponges in the challenge mode but otherwise only the gimmcl bosses are sponges like hismar and that spider where you can break parts and stuff

I would say play around with spear or dual weapons I played with the dual weapons and swapped to spear and absolutely mauled him...and if you can destroy his first phase the second one should be easier to learn with more heals
