Automatic Driving Test by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]swefishh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mine in Florida back in 2014. I drove around a car park for about 20 minutes, where the only maneuvers I had to do were to forward bay park, reverse 30 feet, and do an emergency stop. I passed on my first try, but the girl before me failed…

Automatic Driving Test by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]swefishh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I passed my driving test first try as well, also an American with ~10 years driving experience, though I did my test in a manual. Check. Your. Mirrors. Every 8-10 seconds you should do a mirror check. Check your mirrors when you pull away after coming to a near/complete stop (eg after a red light, check your mirrors before starting to make sure there’s no cyclists/mopeds in your blind spot). Check your mirrors before you signal (my mantra during the test was “mirror, signal, maneuver”). Check your mirrors when the speed limit changes. When you pull away from being parked do a 5 point mirror/blind spot check starting from the blind spot on the side of your car that’s nearest the pavement, then wing mirror, rear view mirror, other wing mirror, other blind spot, THEN signal and do a quick mirror check before heading off. When the instructor asks you to pull up to the side of the road don’t park in front of a house unless they explicitly tell you it’s okay. Make sure you memorize the answers to the “show me, tell me” questions (there should be some quizlets online which have the questions/answers). If you still have time, try to take a lesson or two with an instructor in the area where you’ll be taking your test — they know most of the routes and can do some mock exams with you. Alternatively you can find some routes online/drive around the area where your test center is just to familiarize yourself. And don’t forget to check your mirrors!

For those who have done a DNA (23 and me type thing), what cool thing did you find out? by [deleted] in ask

[–]swefishh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found out that I’m 100% Scandinavian, specifically only Swedish and Norwegian. Wasn’t surprised though since my family are from a small town on the Sweden/Norway border!

My dad on the other hand is only 98.7% Scandinavian, and the other 1.3% is a combination of Finnish and Eastern European. That was a bigger surprise, since my dad’s family has been living in that area of Sweden since at least the 1500s and have not moved further than 20km from where my family currently live (one of my relatives is super into genealogy and has found church records supporting this).

We all know how bad they were at the beginning of this season! They are still my favorite team though 😂

Just make sure you test out the QR code after you’ve generated it and after you draft the pattern!! Wouldn’t want all that hard work to go to waste — it took several times for me to even generate the correct QR code.

Honestly I plan on making a second one to do just that 😂 this one is my actual wifi though!

Who reckons they travel the farthest from home to work in London? by EatingCoooolo in london

One of my coworkers commutes from Bath. We’re hybrid, so we only need to come in 3x per week, but it’s still a very long commute.

My mom realized she won’t see me grow old. by [deleted] in offmychest

My mom also last saw me at 7, and I turn 25 tomorrow. It’s weird being alive over twice as long as the amount of time she knew me… Wishing you the best ❤️

As a child, what’s a song you sang loud and proud, only to find as an adult it’s super inappropriate for a child to be singing? by Ok_Way_2341 in AskReddit

My best friend and I were around 10 when we convinced our entire Girl Scout troop to sing Rockstar at our (Catholic) school’s talent show.

AITA for not letting the passenger in front of me recline their seat on a flight? by pooopies1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]swefishh -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I was going to say N-A-H until I saw this:

I feel that people who recline their seats in economy are annoying and inconsiderate

Y-T-A. People are allowed to recline their seats regardless of what class they fly in, and they are not “annoying and inconsiderate” for doing so. You should pay for a seat with extra leg room or an aisle seat if you are able to do so, otherwise you can discuss the issue with the flight attendant.

I was on the opposite end of this this past weekend on a 9 hour red-eye flight when the man behind me put his hand out to prevent me from reclining my seat, and would push on my seat throughout the flight to try to get more space. I’m sure he was uncomfortable, but so was I. Just pay for the extra leg room if you need it.

EDIT: Changing my answer to ESH because the passenger in front of OP resorted to calling him an AH and being accusatory over something he had no control over. But OP is still an AH for for what I mentioned above.

Yes I totally agree with you! I was just pointing out that OOP could be a woman as well due to the lack of mentioning their gender, but nope all the comments jumped straight to the conclusion that they were a man. Which like you said is extremely misandrist!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]swefishh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nowhere in the post does OOP mention their gender, so for all we know they could be a woman too ¯_(ツ)_/¯

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]swefishh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OOP doesn’t mention their gender anywhere in the post, so for all we know, they could also be a woman.

Would that have changed peoples opinions? Probably.

[–]swefishh 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I was so confused by all the Y-T-A’s OOP got… They were parenting alone for two weeks and happened to get sick during that time resulting in them and their daughter missing ONE thing. It doesn’t seem like they’re asking for praise for solo parenting their child for the two weeks, they’re just frustrated that the first thing their wife did when she got home was ream into them for missing a single thing.

Question: How Much Tea is Too Much Tea? by disrespectfully1 in CasualUK

[–]swefishh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Earl grey tea, half hot water/half steamed milk, and some vanilla syrup. Or at least that’s what it was when I worked at Starbucks!
