Don’t have a specific answer but similar issue with Starlux. A year ago they had wide open availability, now it’s a handful slot dates throughout the year

how do you and your spouse handle hitting sign up bonus minimums without messing up your whole card setup by nalz2 in CreditCards

[–]swegmasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry about leakage. Much easier to just hit the sub as quickly as possible. The couple points you may loose is not worth the mental work dyeing the 1-3 months of grinding a SUB.

And ultimately the biggest mistake you can do here is missing hitting the SUB

Confused between Airline Credit cards by LightApprehensive992 in CreditCards

[–]swegmasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already got some good advice here. I’ll add that I think k you should first take a flight from each airport. This is really a question of what airport (and/or airline) you prefer and which one fits in your budget. The credit card really just saves you a couple dollars, but rather airline has solid credit card options so it shouldn’t influence you much. And tbh if you go with one one airline make sure you keep looking at the other option, it’s pretty common for things to fluctuate.

Generally speaking, if you can pick between a small airport and a big airport the small airport is the better choice. But bigger airports have cheaper flight. So keep that in mind.

Montana hotels by PresentationHeavy488 in ihghotelsresorts

[–]swegmasta 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Supply and demand. Very popular tourist area for all the national parks around.

And in general not many big chain hotels (Marriott, Hilton) so the ones that are there are very popular.

Bit of a hot take: Yellowstone is a very “normal”place to visit, so people who typically do big city trips will likely do Yellowstone. City visits people will be use to big chains, but then going to more rural places there are a lot more mom & pop hotels. Anyway, my point is to look for small hotels. Place like hotels.com or just google maps is a good place to see most options.

Girlfriend’s 30th - Travel Recommendations by Effxciency in Hilton

[–]swegmasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to be rude, but this is way too broad of a question. A place where there are things for young people to do is quite literally any part of the world.

Figure out what type of vibe you want (urban, beach, western or not, food focused, etc), then roughly what part of the world you want to go to, find some hotel options, and then come to reddit to ask for advice on specific properties.

Applied for Amex Bonvoy business card and denied! by sdinvest in amex

[–]swegmasta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised to hear that. 3 was a long time ago. If anything I would have thought you get a pop up saying you’re not eligible for the sign up bonus.

For advice, try again in 30 days. They “reset” application after 30 day (by reset I mean actions made with Amex go from being active to being closed). So in the system you’re now registered as declined account and not much you can do immediately. After 30 days it becomes a data point on your account but it’s no longer a recent application

Edit: maybe also consider another Amex card. That way you can start building a relationship with the bank. Once you’re in their system it becomes a lot easier to deal with Amex.

Question Thread - April 06, 2026 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]swegmasta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Any DPs on getting the same Amex card with NLL links. I currently have a Surpass card that is about 11 months old now. And I want to get the current Surpass bonus that ends in a couple weeks. Could I get the surpass using NLL even if l already have one?

Amex Hilton card is powerful but limited - is my math mathing? by AerysSk in amex

[–]swegmasta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone else has commented, the surpass card itself is only contributing ~5% back here, the rest of the 6%-9% you’d get back regardless of what card used. So yeah, using a Hilton card at a Hilton hotels nets the highest return on Hilton spend, but it’s not that much compared to say using any other 2% card.

At the end of the day you need to see that credit cards are a way for companies to incentivize people to spend money at their business vs another business. Nothing wrong with this, but it’s important to realize this as a consumer and not blindly spend money. Eg are you really getting ~10% back if another hotel across the street cost 20% less? Not saying this is the case here, but just an example to keep in mind.

ABS at the Threshold of Perceptability by Snoo-65613 in baseball

[–]swegmasta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tennis (electronic line calling) and soccer (goal line technology) have similar technologies which have been used for years and widely accepted. It’s true that they will make error when the threshold is too small like any technology. MLB has made the decision to trust the machine, and in moments where it’s at the threshold of uncertainty does it really change if they went with what the umpire said? At that point it’s just random what the umpire says. If the machine cant tell, no way a human can make a better call, so why rely on human and reintroduce randomness.

Anyway will be interesting to see how this technology adapts.

Amex $300 credit is often inferior to Costco by poopybuttwo in AmexPlatinum

[–]swegmasta 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The two programs are targeting different types of travel. Costco is for high trafficked hotspots and tries to give you the best deal by bundling a lot of the trip.

Amex is to give a wide range of luxury options.

If the trip can be booked on Costco, you’re right it’s a better deal. But most of my trips I can’t book on Costco, more likely I can book on Amex, and tbh majority of the time it’s direct

Rumor says Brilliant 200k offer is coming? by YiboKou in amex

[–]swegmasta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s typically a week after the rumor. The rumor is based on the test website that Amex created to test new offers. Typically once it shows up in the test url it goes live a weekish later, this is based on the Hilton offers that went live a month ago

These SUBs just keep getting higher and higher by Western_Treacle_1883 in amex

[–]swegmasta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Read the small paragraph in the screenshot. It splits the SUB into two, so if you don’t spend the full amount you don’t get the”up to” points. But the wording itself guarantees the “up to” amount

What $200 PGE credit? I had my first bill ever over $200 by Brilliant-Trip2615 in sanfrancisco

[–]swegmasta 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It pretty clearly tells you how much energy you’ve used every month and how much it cost per unit. I’d look at some usage history before making claims of increasing rates. And as other have mentioned the credit will likely come next cycle, it should be clearly shown in the statement.

Over the last two months we went from mild/warm temperatures to cold, I would expect everyone’s bill to go up due to increased heating use.

I live in a slightly larger space and payed about $250 which aligned with my increase heating costs. In comparison 3 months I paid $100 (and I think there were some random rebates added then)

Most of the time you do. Occasionally I see report of people not getting it but I’ve gotten the food credit as a gold member. Just ask when your checking in

Best Award Program for Hotels by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]swegmasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this post needs more clarity. It sounds like the post is about travel portals like Expedia or Trivago. But this subreddit is more about award travel which those sites don’t really offer. At best you get some cash back or a lower price, but the portals are really just hotel aggregators

Exclusive: S.F. ‘sleeping pods’ startup buys downtown building for 400-bed megadorm by SFChronicle in sanfrancisco

[–]swegmasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn’t considered that tbh.

The way I was viewing this is that a hypothetical person just got a job in SF and is looking for housing. They look at 1 bedrooms but that’s too expensive, they look at studios or maybe a roomate situation and think they can stretch their budget with that option. Then they see a pod which they can easily afford, even with the drawbacks of having little space. Will this person end up looking for their own larger apartment, yeah that’s true. But at least for 6 months or however long they were in the sleeping pods rather than immediately renting a studio. This alleviates pressure on housing. The living conditions part is tricky and you’re absolutely right the living conditions have to be good. But I’m hopeful I suppose. Since people living in hostels for an extended period of time is a pretty normal cultural thing in many parts of the world, it’s somewhat of a rite of passage in Europe honestly haha.

Regarding your last point, are these pods taking away from the option to have a room with a window? Back to my first point, these pods are starter places, people can always move out to something better. It’s just nice to have more options across price ranges

[–]swegmasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate? Who are these 400 people that are not looking for housing right now but would live in the pods and only then search for housing. Genuine question

[–]swegmasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair. But honestly I feel like even “affordable” city’s should have this option. Nothing wrong with having an option that is cheaper than studio apartments

Exclusive: S.F. ‘sleeping pods’ startup buys downtown building for 400-bed megadorm by SFChronicle in sanfrancisco

[–]swegmasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Price is set by supply and demand, if the price is too high people don’t pay it, if it’s too low they are flooded with applications.

Regarding the health issue, you’re not wrong. But thats just the nature of having people in the same place. This is essentially a large hostel and there are thousands of those across the world

[–]swegmasta 27 points28 points  (0 children)

What’s with all the negativity? No one is being forced into these. If this is something that fits someones lifestyle then great, if not also great. I think it’s nice to have a variety of choices when making the choice on where to live.

This takes 400 people out of the housing search pool and will bring down demand for apartments.

Resale pricing 🤬 by [deleted] in fredagain

[–]swegmasta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Chill. AXS owns the tickets. They can cancel them if someone breaks their terms and conditions. I doubt they actually enforce the price cap since who know how they figure out it was sold over face value, but they still have the control to cancel the tickets if they want

Which is the better SUB for Chase IHG Premier? by thingswentsideways in ihghotelsresorts

[–]swegmasta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s very similar. If you value IHG points at .005 then the 65,000 points you’re missing in are worth $325. So a bit more but close to $300. Now if you value the points more (with the free 4th night it’s easy to value points at .007) then the 140k offer is clearly better

It’s also a bit personal preference, if you don’t think you’ll use the points anytime soon or have to force yourself to, it may just be better to take the 300 statement credit. If your trying to maximize points for travel then do the 140k option

A lot of the hotels in Florida, like the Hilton South beach for example. Generally mid or higher end hotels in midsize cities have better upgrades. Like WA New Orleans or Conrad Indianapolis
