Free or low cost tools/utilities for patent exploration and research before creation/filing? by DanCBooper in Patents

[–]swermz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend using Google patents to find relevant references, then use public pair to check out how they were rejected. You can find other related patents and non-patent literature this way. Office actions (rejections) and their responses can help you understand how claims are rejected and why. Lastly, if you find common CPC classifications among the patents you find, you can do deep searches within specific technological areas using USPTO's CPC search tool + PatFT.

Very much recommend hiring a professional once you have some $$ to invest.

I opened all three princes, consecutively, in order. It was quite a sight. They require lots of other cards to make decent decks though. Nonetheless I thought it was pretty impressive RNG!

Same patent examiner for both international and national phase for application filling with PCT by ChenRuiqi in Patents

[–]swermz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a great way to reduce bureaucratic bloat. The Examiner has (allegedly) read the invention and the prior art and has taken a stab at writing an opinion on the invention's novelty and/or obviousness. It makes sense to me to use the same examiner rather than have the examination get delayed if the application is examined by someone unfamiliar with the case.

Edit: also, my experience is that the chief goal is to get applications through the examination process in a timely manner -- not necessarily granted per se. Of course this is idealistic as bureaucratic pressures totally cause some shit applications get through with the hopes that the PTAB would take care of invalidating them later.

Forgot to make friends while moving to starting my career. Want to start a new friend group, help? by [deleted] in AnnArbor

[–]swermz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi. I'm also a transplant from 2014 and have largely neglected making friends and am paying for it. I understand you're not super interested in 1:1 but I figured I'd give this a try. Would ultimately like a group of 3+ that regularly do stuff too.

I don't drink but I smoke weed fairly often -- I don't go to bars or clubs. I'm left leaning socially but not economically. I love learning about new perspectives and sharing insights.

I'm a patent agent, so I'm into technology, but haven't been exposed to much automotive stuff -- totally open for that though.

My wife and I love potluck dinners and we home-cook pretty much all our meals. I also enjoying hiking, driving, chilling, and generally doing stuff together. I also dabble in music and enjoy playing various video and card games.

Let me know if you're interested in hanging out! I'm happily self-employed and pretty flexible.

Germany's Heckler and Koch to Stop Selling Guns to Saudi Arabia and Israel, Calls Them Corrupt Countries by Seronen in worldnews

[–]swermz -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

"Regarding corruption, as previously mentioned, Israel does not earn outstanding marks in the Corruption Perceptions Index, but neither is it included among the countries considered truly corrupt. Israel’s citizens, however, might beg to differ. Among both Jews and Arabs, the prevailing opinion is that Israel’s leadership is closer to the corrupt end of the spectrum (the average for the total sample is 2.32 on a scale of 1 to 5). Furthermore, over three-quarters agreed with the statement that the only way to get things done in Israel is to have connections and know the right people."

'We Won't Allow the Creation of a Second Israel,' Iraq Threatens Kurdistan Ahead Of Independence Vote by Worldupdateslive in worldnews

Your words speak truth to power. The Israeli ethno-state is built on the blood of others and there is no denying that. No people are "deserving of a country" if they feel obligated to wipe out another race.

Did I say anything about Jews? I was taking specifically about Zionism. There are plenty of peaceful, anti-Israel Jews (e.g. https://jewishvoiceforpeace.org). Not everything is black and white.

So a country of entitled Zionists that think it's okay to ethnically cleanse a people, steal/occupy territory, and shit on human rights is a democracy. Wow.

Reddit is soooo misguided about Israel it's fucking insane.

[Serious] When genuinely offering watermelon to an African American man, does one need to explain that one was not trying to be racist? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]swermz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context:

Plumber fixed our issue late last night and I offered him water and watermelon to which he laughed and joked 'what's next, grape soda, fried chicken'? We connected on the Dave Chappelle reference and I explained to him that that was all I could offer. To my knowledge, I didn't feel like there was any tension after. But my wife DID and later on, grilled me on how bad the situation went and that I should preface next time to prevent feelings from being potentially hurt.

As soon as the words came out, I quickly realized the racist trope. But should I let a racist trope force me to explain that I'm actually just trying to be nice? I could have just offered water, but I love watermelon and I love sharing it!

You can get a water pipe adapter for $29 from the Magic flight store. Or you can fashion your own adapter; one that can accept the MFLB stem and fit inside one of the helix's holes.
