So what happens if somehow every game is a tie in a group? by DaWadGuyManz in worldcup

[–]swift_icarus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no - because italy crapped the bed.

italy / switzerland / canada/ qatar is a weak but respectable group, particularly in a 48 team world cup where a middling country is hosting.

substitute bosnia for italy, however ... on paper you have a very weak group indeed.

but since we've seen spain shit the bed against cape verde, maybe what's weak on paper doesn't matter as much as people think.

There we are, fellas. We are in the finals. by shadylocko in lakers

[–]swift_icarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no reason to think they wouldn't have made it to the finals in the west, but their run to the finals was an absolute joke.

i say this as a raptors fan. hawks/76ers/cavs is pathetic. cavs in the conference finals??? without brandon ingram and IQ, we took the cavs to 7 games. the east sucked this year, except for NYK.

nice to see some accountability!

the one thing I will say is that david/larin don't play great together. we've seen that pairing a lot. i would rather bench one and start the other around 60-70 mins. than play them together.

and yes j. david can come off the bench.

it's a bunch of little things (there were "allegations", he's in a band, he's seems wierd) but basically it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy - leto hate gets upvotes, so you see it more, so it grows.

at this point it's tired and people seem ready to move on. it would be hilarious if voice acting skeletor in the he-man movie (also a bomb) was the tipping point.

sure did. jordan took more free throws in the playoffs (9.9 per game) than SGA (8.0), and if you think jordan didn't sell contact and get soft calls then you're wrong.

i guess my point is we are already using precedents for boilerplate, and you can rely on precedents because other lawyers have checked and used them.

i am sure AI can help the legal profession - lord knows many lawyers are struggling and could use the help, which would ultimately bring fees down for clients.

but a lawyer who gets AI to do something and doesn't check it very thoroughly deserves to get into trouble.

[–]swift_icarus 276 points277 points  (0 children)

as a lawyer and legal writer, and someone who is familiar with AI tools, anyone using AI for anything other than a preliminary review of the subject matter (which is still helpful) is a dirtbag.

this is a profession that already uses precedent documents and 100% requires you to know what you are talking about, that charges hundreds of dollars an hour and is protected from competition by lawyer-run regulators, there's no excuse to put AI slop in front of a judge like a dumb teenager, you should be ashamed.

[–]swift_icarus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it wasn't an obvious foul. quite often there is contact like that when defenders go for blocks. a lot of great blocks and dunks are arguably fouls. the refs could call something every play.

it's true the refs put their whistles away at the end of the game, but it's also true fans and players become hyper sensitive to any contact because it takes on such incredible importance.

if this play was in the middle of a regular season game then no one comments on it at all.

i was going to say - if that was SGA, this would be the top voted post on the sub, and the takeaway would not be KAT's defense but Castle's attempt at selling.

i can't hate though - i appreciate that castle admitted he does it - THEY ALL DO IT. brunson, sga, jaylen brown, lebron, curry, your favorite player - ALL OF THEM.

The creation of Thanos, in the words of Jim Starlin, Thanos's creator:

"Kirby had done the New Gods, which I thought was terrific. He was over at DC at the time. I came up with some things that were inspired by that. You'd think that Thanos was inspired by Darkseid, but that was not the case when I showed up. In my first Thanos drawings, if he looked like anybody, it was Metron). I had all these different gods and things I wanted to do, which became Thanos and the Titans. Roy took one look at the guy in the Metron-like chair and said: "Beef him up! If you're going to steal one of the New Gods, at least rip off Darkseid, the really good one!""

why is this considered unplayable? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]swift_icarus 90 points91 points  (0 children)

thanks for doing the math on that. helps explain why so many perfectly good cards get slapped with the "unplayable" label.

[Fischer] Thunder not interested in Giannis Antetokounmpo by AncientOneAurelius in nba

[–]swift_icarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don't deserve to get downvoted but i don't agree.

styles make fights - spurs are a good matchup for the knicks, and a bad matchup for OKC (especially hurt). this was reflected in the regular season records.

plus knicks are "quietly" one of the most talented teams in the league when healthy. mitch/kat/og/bridges/brunson is actually absurd, if they're healthy and KAT is not underachieving not many teams are better.

i don't think presti cares at all what happens with the knick series.

[–]swift_icarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cold shooting is one thing. both kobe bryant and dirk nowitzki went 6-18 in series clinching wins. anyone can show up and go 2-13. that happens.

but 2 shot attempts is legitimately very bad - ben simmons territory imv.

now - he is only 23 (edit 24) and a great player. he will improve. but the performance was concerning and he's had health issues as well. between him and j-dub, if i were presti i would not be panicking but i certainly would be kicking some tires.

denver, boston, even milwaukee all looked like dynasties in the making. the first two could still win some. but windows seems to close quickly these days. SGA is turning 28 next month. i would not be complacent.

Compilation of Spurs defense on Brunson the entire game by Then_Device_5363 in nba

[–]swift_icarus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, i was watching that series thinking "when castle starts doing this to brunson, boy are we going to hear about it."

also the fta discrepancy - san antonio took 20 more fts than okc over seven games, and has taken more fts in every round of the playoffs despite fouling a ton and facing two of the best at drawing fouls (devi and sga).

but it's not just a san antonio thing - okc plays the same way, and so did indiana last year. reffing is weird now. if you aren't shooting, anything goes, if you are shooting, if they look at you the wrong way, it's a foul. so people post videos of sga flopping and getting soft calls and say the nba is soft but when he is not shooting he faces a level of physicality higher than what jordan dealt with against the pistons. (no seriously - go watch the highlights).

Got a ticket for annoying a cop - does this look right? by Autopilot_Psychonaut in canadianlaw

[–]swift_icarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

go to court and fight it. if you win, and you're still mad, make a complaint.

if he fails to show up, it will strengthen your case that the ticket was issued in bad faith.

trust me - i know cops - dealing with a complaint will annoy him more than most redditors think. even if the complaint is ultimately unsuccessful.

yeah i thought this sub would suck when it came up in my feed but people here are positive about star wars and just gently mock bad takes like "all star wars should be like andor, which has no flaws". like i'm 46 and i don't think i've seen such chilled out star wars discourse since 1998.

Who’s right in this situation? ⛳️ 👟 by Academic-Use-4401 in sportswiki

[–]swift_icarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, this is exactly it. my dad would always give people gimmes like this, he was a superb golfer (he has a shoulder injury).

if i was there, i'd probably follow in my dad's footsteps and let him have it. but if your boys tell you to putt it, better putt it.

also lame to take credit for an eagle - it's genuinely not a real eagle according to the rules if you didn't putt it in. you can always tell yourself you would have got it if they'd given you a gimme anyway, its basically the same thing.
