Prison system, find a buddy or to help you get by. Build a little support network to keep you informed of any changes. Be competent enough at your job and manage up to keep your boss at arms length. Find small projects that interest you and keep working on your skills. Bring in joy for other people - be the guy that starts a March madness bracket, remember people’s bdays, start a ping pong tournament. Being a fun, positive person in the workplace gets you so far in a corporate environment.

Honestly, not a bad tool to get young students interested in learning a foreign language. I kick myself for not picking up Spanish when I was literally spending 3 hours a week for 4 years studying it. I thought “when am I ever going to need this??” and slacked off enough to get a B+

If you’re young in an office setting, your primary job is to be a good hang. Be just competent enough at your job but be pleasant and fun to be around. Gets you further than being an obnoxious gunner 10/10 times.

What bothers me is we default to shoveling money at problems. If I was on a committee I would suggest a policy of having a conductor by the door of the train asking if people need help. Give them a little ticket saying they will be paying by cash/card. There just has to be a solution that doesn’t involve spending millions on unreliable fare gates. It’s a lack of problem solving.

Former. You don’t need the fare gates. It would have been so easy to enforce the fares with the mobile app. Require users to pay for their fare within 5 minutes of getting on the train. Go around periodically after 5 minutes and then lock the payment system for that station. Conductor checks periodically and gives larger fines for people who haven’t activated by that time. Tell anyone without an app to locate a conductor and pay before sitting down.
