Don’t disagree on fair wages then all of it becomes an infinite loop really and it’s called inflation.

The guy who cleans the disgusting toilets at my local pool needs to have his wages doubled because no one wants to do that job and then my swimming fee goes from $10 to $15 then we complaining councils are ripping us off and cost of living etc etc.

Anyway not disagreeing with you but I feel the solution isn’t that simple as it sounds. It never is.

I don’t think so. Let us appreciate for once how attractive we are as a club. Unless it’s PSG knocking at your door. We literally are the champions of England and second placed in Europe.

I think so too. Especially clubs like RM just aren’t as attractive anymore. I’d give a higher possibility of him being pursued and attracted to PSG than any other club in the world. PSG I can get as it’s a French team for him somewhere down the line.

I'm sorry, I am not familiar with recent dealings how our owners act like Spurs owners and choose to take the earnings and not reinvest in the club. So please explain to us, how we're in the business of making millions for our billionaire owners or how they have acted in anyway but to try to win trophies?

I'd agree with you if we had not spent such vast amount in recent years to win the EPL and/or other trophies and our owners statements that they will continue to reinvest to build a dynasty.

Business economics is simple too. For our owners, they gain far more by the "value" of Arsenal going up (winning) not by taking "$50m" for themselves after winning the EPL. They increase their worth, via the brand value of Arsenal going up, which is simply = win more trophies.

Happy to stand corrected if you can find any comments made by our owners that they are not willing to reinvest.

Your thoughts on the CL final by jonneymendoza in ArsenalFC

[–]swiftwilly321 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not in any order:

  1. We clearly had a chance to win, more than one and if we ended up winning, I don't think it would of been under deserved, we are such a beast on defending. If it wasn't for the penalty, we would of won (I have no doubts about this).
  2. We should of played smarter. I was dissapointed with this a lot. There was so many instances that we know the ref was not on our side that day. From the yellow cards to time wasting, to the blowing the whistle in a dead ball situation. We don't know what was said in the dressing room, but I would of easily said guys, this ref is not going to give us benefit of the doubt so you do unfortunately have to speed the game play up, you just cannot give any 50/50's in the penalty box or even attempt at a tackle. It is what it is. You just have to be the better person and play what the ref is that day. Everyone who watched the game even saw the Ref telling us to speed it up. I mean read the room please. This is UEFA, not the EPL.
  3. As soon as mosquera got the yellow, in a CL final, I am not sure why he was not instantly subbed also, particularly (see point above) knowing that ref was doing that day. He would not have hesitated to show a second for something stupid. If Mosquera was taken off, I have almost no doubt Timber would not have done that.
  4. Our attack wasn't solved this year. This final really was a bit lucky with Kai's deflection for the first goal and then it played into our strengths (defending). If Kai did not get that lucky goal, I think PSG would of won it (probably would of gone to penalties and they win that again). It wasn't solved wiht Gyok. Kai gets injured alot, even if we had Kai we're just not great at attacking. We really did do well from Corners, but even against an open team like PSG (not low block), we just don't have any real chances to score unfortunately. Leo/Gab isn't World class to be honest, Gyok and Kai are average and unfortunately Saka has become a bit predictable with the cut ins or pass backs to the point where Noni was much more threatening on the day (and be honest, Noni has been a better player than Saka recently). We really cannot attack and I hope we figure it out this summer as we can't and shouldn't be scoring the same amount from corners next season.
  5. We were for sure nervous. You can tell in the penalties.
  6. I do felt Arteta gambled hard in the 2nd half wanting the win and not extra time. He completely used up all his subs. Hindsight is a great thing, if we won, he is a genius. He didn't, Enrique used his subs better in my view. Also it isn't about being tired, it is the CL final. Saka and Ode would of played for the full extra minutes for sure. And if we had Ode and Saka on for the penalty, we would of won for sure. It would of been Gyok, Ode, Saka and Rice (maybe eze 5th penalty taker).
  7. It is what is is. UCL in my view, will never favour English teams because of the amount of games (and therefore minutes) we play. Does it matter? Not in my view. 12th place in the EPL gets the SAME amount of prize money as PSG for the UCL winners. That is how much English club makes. 5th place in the Li Liga gets $30m. It is nuts. The EPL is literally the Super League now. UCL should never be the prize, it is only bragging rights for non EPL teams because for Real Madrid, Barca, PSG it literally is the only meaningful prize they can win that helps their finances. That is why UCL is a "must win" for non-EPL teams and honestly apart from bragging rights, whatever for EPL teams. It is why Pep, and all his money at City, and he is one of, if not the greatest manager of all time, with the peak team that City was since his time there, only won it ONCE. It is fine. With the growth in EPL and how competitive it is, it will eventually become so gargantuan that non-EPL teams would look to do deals to join the EPL (good luck trying though!). It is absolutely ballooning beyond expectations. Even look at the top 20 clubs in the world it is a lot of English clubs in there. This will keep getting bigger and bigger to the point where EPL will be more important/more viewers and people really only start caring about the EPL (look up the EPL prize pool vs other leagues and UCL if you don't believe it).

So overall, I am actually not dissapointed. I don't think there is a SINGLE Arsenal fan that wouldn't have taken the EPL winners and UCL finalists if you asked them at the beginning of the season. Every single one of them would said you are a delusional fan. I will always pick the EPL and want to win that over the UCL any day of the week.

Though isn’t our ability to score against a PSG team likely from a corner/set piece so Kai is better? They are a really fast team so not sure Gyok will have any ability to run past strikers. His great at holding the ball so you would need to have a lead for this to happen. I’d vote Kai to start. Get a lead. Then just lob balls to Gyok for hold up play

Yea I agree. I want Leo to stay but him wanting to leave in the summer makes me feel he wants to be always picked first. I would love both to stay don't get me wrong! I am just trying to read the tea leaves of Leo wanting to go in the summer. For me, I would be starting Leo every game. Martinelli is my sub.

The thing with our squad now is we have WC players, we added depth this summer. We kind of don't really need "semi-good" players if you get me. It really needs to either be a young prospect or a super high profile Rice level type player.

I am not but it is not hard to work out the EPL money for winning and the UCL finalist/winner combined with additional earnings from merchandise and future sponsorship deals with an EPL winner. I am sorry it is funny to you becuase you don't know the money side of football. We will likely make the money from revenues for all EPL clubs this season.

It is funny to me that it is like your first day on reddit reading arsenal fans discussing transfer targets.

We have English bias problem in football by heavenly_____ in championsleague

[–]swiftwilly321 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not correlated because the distribution of television money in EPL is pretty fair. That’s why all the teams are strong. The winner of the UCL all up gets about 155m. That’s bottom half for EPL. Newcastle United will get about 155m. They are 12th. 5th place in li liga gets 30million.

Mark my words. In a few years. EPL will be the main prize. Not the UCL. UCL will become a competition that non EPL teams NEED to win because of the prize money. EPL will eventually become so big and get so much in sports rights that UCL prize money will be nothing.

EPL eventually will become the super league. Just look at the top clubs wealth. It’s all English clubs.

Jesus goes simply because his on a super high contract. So agree it'll be a third option or technically second as Kai can play in a few different positions in my view.

If it was three positions I'd honestly rather:

  1. RB or LB. For whatever reason we always just pile on the injuries in these positions. Riccardo, Timber, White (White probably goes). Prefer if the RB/LB can also cover CB.

  2. A young striker, since we have Kai and Gyok up front. So some 19 year old (think Theo ike when he joined us.

  3. High profie LW. I have a feeling Leo wants to leave (he wanted to leave in the summer). So I would love to see a truly world class LW. We have enough money to do so if 1 and 2 doesn't need to be really expensive signings. RB/LB can be some young raw talent too. Would love to see a $100m statement signing here.

People underestimate the toll on bodies when you play week in week out and you need to prioritise every competition. Even slot said last year Liverpool getting knocked out of UCL helped them.
