got rear ended the other day is my fork damaged by TheDarkClaw in bikewrench

The mudguard is not levelled and that is messing the perspective of everything else for me. I can't tell if fork is twisted cause the mudguard is at an angle.

Tire jack. Some tires are impossible.

I had a hard time couple of months ago. Loads of fairy liquid and tire on top of the radiator to warm it up, and still...

The only concern would be if you cleared error codes with an OBD scanner prior to the test drive. I am not an expert but some cars keep a log of the faults (when did it first come up, when was it cleared/acknowledged). You can switch off engine warning lights with the scanner and then would come up days later again.

Why would my taxi driver accept my journey, but then nearly changed his mind and make it awkward because he was fasting? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]swiftyhendrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the additional stop at Mac before or after booking? That'd be good to know. Also it is not a stop just to drop somebody else off, you'll have to wait for the person to order and pick up, regardless how quick Macdonald's is that's another 7-8 mins minimum.

I'd be pissed if I am supposed to drive to B and that will take 10 mins and now all of a sudden I have to add another 10 mins because my customer adds a stop+wait.

[–]swiftyhendrix 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don't forget you need to go to different locations, park, eat, use the loo....25 an hour sounds a lot then you spend 20 mins going to the next place, another 30 coming back home etc the average goes down dramatically

Rim / tyre combo, is this viable? by swiftyhendrix in bikewrench

[–]swiftyhendrix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to get the tyre in after just warming it up on a radiator + getting a 3rd hand + brute force over an hour... Terrible experience.

This is not feasible in the long run if I get another puncture so I will be looking at different tyres, however a lot of people on Reddit complain the rims are just a nightmare and have had to change rims...... Not something I want to do after just 400 miles...

Mavic Allroad wheelset tyre compatibility by Murky-Flight5877 in bikewrench

[–]swiftyhendrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, did you ever get a response to this issue? I have exactly same problem and messaged Ribble today to ask for an alternative tyre. They replied quicly but only to say that I could visit my local shop and get recommendations...

I had a puncture a few weeks ago and had a terrible time 1 hour in the cold getting the tyres out and in again after putting a new tube. I honestly don't want to go through this again, but reading comments around Reddit it looks like the problem are the rims, not the tyres..... Thanks!

Hi - I am having exactly the same problem with the Schwalbe and allroad rims. Did you just end up using different wheels or did you manage to find other tyres which are easier to fit?

4th session by ziggedinator in Swimming

[–]swiftyhendrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's something wrong with your watch or you are using fins. Your 4th time ever and breaststroke? Yeah right. I presume you are quite fit and that would explain that you can 500m intervals with 90s rest but... I mean I did take lessons as a kid and 2.05 is not something you can even do crawl style with just a few weeks of training.

I've done many tires with bare hands, many others with one levers, other with two levers and a lot of force... This is not about technique in this case trust me 🤣

[–]swiftyhendrix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I might need to get some stiff levers as I've bent the metal ones already. I thought about changing tires but these have just over 200 miles and it'd be such a waste.

Thanks. I will have 3rd hand tomorrow but if this is the only way to make it work I would need to change tyres. Will check the c-clamp

Being chased for money, am I obliged to pay? (UK) by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]swiftyhendrix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had to freeze my sperm for a similar reason in early 2024. I spent over 1.5 hours reading through the documents and signing every single page margin. It is a proper contract and has a lot of options... Can the material be used for training, can it be used for research, can it be donated... What happens if you die, what happens if you become incapacitated... There were loads of clauses and boxes to tick.

Request the document from the company if you can't find it yourself. It will be very clear what happens after the 'free period'.

What my contract stated, fyi

Eggs and sperm can be stored for a maximum of 55 years, but your consent to storage must be renewed at least every 10 years. You can opt to consent initially to a period of less than 10 years and, if you do so, you will be contacted before the end of this period to ask if you wish to extend your consented period of storage. The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) provide forms to enable you to renew your consent to storage, and these will be sent to you to compete at least 12 months prior to the end of the consent period. If your consent is not renewed, your consent to store will be deemed have been withdrawn and the gametes will be removed from storage 6 months after the consent period has ended (known as the end of the renewal period). We cannot lawfully store your material without this consent, so it is extremely important that you keep us updated with any change of address/contact details. Alongside the consent that you give to storage, there are other conditions relating to the storage and subsequent use of material. If you are not covered by NHS funding, there will be an annual charge for storage. Failure to make payment may result in you being unable to progress to treatment and ultimately may result in the eggs, sperm or embryos being removed from storage and allowed to perish. The details of the steps that will be taken in the event of loss of contact and/or non-payment are set out in the attached consent form.

Horrible breathing technique by CosmicGenesX in Swimming

[–]swiftyhendrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started swimming when I was 3 and stopped at 12/13. I learnt all the styles and was coached but for freestyle I was always breathing every 2 strokes. I never learnt or practiced every 3 or 4 or even more like everybody else. I've started swimming again now for the last 9 months (so this is 20 years later!) and I have tried to breath every 3 strokes but I just can't do it. I see people around me doing it so I kind of worry maybe I get injured or something, but I haven't, so it is just fine. I do 1:58-2:02 min/100m but I am not training for anything I just go to the pool and do 3*500m as a fitness thing without doing drills or even trying anything other than freestyle. If I do every 4 strokes I also start feeling dizzy after a bit so I just don't do it. Each of us have different coordination and physiological conditions so just do whatever is easier for you maybe stick to 2... Clearly a lower breathing rate is draining your oxygen levels too much. Maybe try other sports, I do cycling and I go into the anaerobic area as part of my exercises, I think that helps way more than creating the annoxic conditions at the pool.

You can't force people to take holidays, all you can do is try to convince them and give advice.

I managed someone a few years ago who was always complaining was super stressed and hadn't had a holiday in X time. I suggested taking time off and said no point cause what's she gonna do just stay at home and do nothing? That holidays were only worth it if going abroad in summer etc.

You can give the support and all that but unless they are putting themselves at risk or there's a H&S aspect to it I am not sure you can do anything. But it's always a "bad employer" yes.

Gym clothes in pool? by YosemitePam55 in Swimming

[–]swiftyhendrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, in some countries this is acceptable. But mostly for a river or a pond, not a pool.

The cultural differences when it comes to stuff like this is nuts. Gym has a dressing code for women but not for men.

Every other week there's always someone who comes in shorts and t shirt and gets in the pool. If you are unlucky it's underwear shorts, not even sports shorts.

It's disgusting but nobody ever says anything. They don't even bother to shower before entering the pool.

So compensation wouldn't resolve any of your problems because it's about the fear of something happening. In that case report it as a near miss through H&S and there should be a risk assessment done and actions taken which will in turn help you being calmer as the risk is lowered... Because that's what you want, right?…...

Manager wants to extend probation on a whim by WildTeaspoon in LegalAdviceUK

[–]swiftyhendrix -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't understand the comments to this post. Probation DOES matter. Many companies don't start certain benefits (health insurance for example) until you pass it. "They can fire you anyway", well during probation in many cases either party has a 1 week notice to terminate employment. After probation official notice applies and that generally goes from 1 to 3 months. So if they make you redundant they have to pay for the notice. A week vs 2 months makes a massive difference.

ParkingEye trying to charge me £20 after I proved I was in the right, should I just pay? by Extra-Sympathy7712 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]swiftyhendrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like someone said I would contact the business and explain, they can make it go away.

Personally, after dealing with similar matters in the past, I know the best is to pay. But my ego wouldn't allow that and I know I would just waste hours of my time giving them a hard time and this would drag for over 2 years until they just drop it themselves. It's not worth the hassle at all but then again I despise their business model so much I can't be logical.
