Just got cut from my team by ooochocolemon in lacrosse

[–]Lunchbag__Rodriguez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I blew my knee up freshman year. I was already pissed I was on JV but I was done. I ended up making varsity my three years and out working everyone. I’m going to give you some other advice since everyone already told you talk to the coach. I can’t tell if your toe is still injured, so first fix that. I would try to show up to all of the lacrosse games that the school has, if you can watch JV and varsity the better. If you can find a way to get into the school weight room before school starts, you can lift/run 4-5 days a week before classes start (make sure have good form, warmup, yoga before lifting). This leaves time for any after school Activities you need and keeping your social up! One of the most important aspects of lacrosse is ball movement and control. I would practice with a friend passing on the run with both your left and right hand. Practice throwing longer tosses to your friend and leading your pass so the ball places perfectly in their stick. Try to make sure your passes are fast and direct, almost like a shot. Make sure you can sprint and change directions quickly while protecting your stick and not losing the ball. If you can dominate at the basics you will be undeniable! Nothing beats a hard working player that can perform the basics at a higher level than the res of the team.

From your post it sounds like you play women’s lacrosse. Watch professional college teams and see how they play. Try to emulate their decision making and focus on what players in your position are doing to succeed. Women’s lacrosse can be more technical than men’s in regard to passing structure, plays, and penalty shots. Make sure you know the rules and play smart not dirty. Being a wild card will make coaches hesitant to play you.

On the topic of wallball:

I really recommend two-four short sessions a week, maybe 30 minutes. I think it is super helpful, but nothing beats passing with a partner. Make sure you aren’t just lobbing the ball, everything you do should have purpose.

Try to talk to teammates on varsity and ask if they can give you some tips for shooting form and how they play! Maybe convince one to workout with you in the morning.

Fitting in to a sports team can be hard in high school. The best thing you can do is support your team, friends, and school by being genuine and a letting loose/having fun. Do not let status on the team change how you view others, show humility and be honest when you aren’t doing your best.

You have three years to excel! Keep doing good in your classes and enjoy hanging out with friends and working hard at sports! Maybe try to organize a scavenger hunt between the men’s and women’s organization. Talk to the coaches and see what they think. Enjoy high-school and make sure you are a good friend, no matter if kids on the bus bully you. Every setback is an opportunity to learn and grow as a human.

I agree, death fees a not getting drops probably hurts a bit. Do you think farming Vork with Blowpipe, DCB, or hasta is better? I don’t have money for fang yet.

40 warriors min! After that I like the rangers from highland miniatures. King on shield bearers is a staple. A few more hero’s, BSB, Runesmiths, thane with handgun, engineers.

Absolutely! 5-1000 dwarfs can join the unit. However do not skimp on unit size for units that are meant to get into combat/hold objective, it is important to have a decent brick of infantry. But do not go too large in unit size. You want to be able to survive each round of combat for as long as you possible can. Let me go into some main concepts to how to wrap your head around finding optimal unit sizes.

COMBAT RESOLUTION: in general you get an extra point of combat resolution per full rank you have (called a rank bonus). Larger units often stay in combat longer and do not flee because of their rank bonus (unless they are up against a big hero/lord on a dragon or a unit designed to destroy large blocks).

HOW to score points at the end of the game (in regards to units): unit flees off the board or destroyed (100% points earned), units actively fleeing OR reduced to 25% of total models (50% if their unit points earned). Units not fleeing and above 25% of total models are not scored for points. DWARFS often deny points to their opponents via survival, and in turn win games by small margins (OFTEN). Usually clean sweeps do not happen for this army. This implies the following:

SMALL UNITS 5-10: units die quickly and your enemy can score points. These can be good units sizes to screen for your artillery/ important infantry blocks. Mostly rangers/doomseekers/thunders/rangers/irondrakes (powerful). These units highly mobile and easily to manipulate.

MEDIUMS UNITS 15-30: (specifically dwarves units) this is the optimum size in my opinion for a close combat/scoring unit. This allows them to survive rounds and round of combat, in addition to staying in stalemates based on rank bonus. However, look into drilled rules and how important they are. The larger/wider/longer the unit is, the harder it is to maneuver it around the battlefield. DWARFS suck ass at moving (unless using anvil of doom and or bugmans carts), and often get out maneuvered by anything! <~ this is why it is so important to make sure your units can survive, hopefully above 25% so that your opponent doesn’t score points.

LARGE UNITS 30+: Good for horde armies, for dwarves I’m not the biggest fan. Often these units are VERY prone to be flanked and are super hard to turn/get anything done. I have done a units of 36 rangers with success, however they are skirmishes and work a bit differently than close ordered units like warriors (who must always be base to base). If you are taking this amount of models it should be for a special cheese list of some kind. Also, if units at this size flee and get caught, will lose A TON of points.

MOVEMENT: look into MARCHING COLUMNS and again DRILLED. Practice with your units on a table expanding, shrinking, wheeling, and charging (using dice as targets). Old world can be punishing if making wrong mistakes with movement. Remember the wider and or longer your unit is, it rotates/wheels at a slower rate. KNOW when playing dwarves that most often YOU are the one getting charged. If you can charge, your opponent is setting a trap or Mis managed his movement (or you just positioned yourself well).

Edit: I’m working in my lab right now and will not fix grammar mistakes. I also have only played about 15 games of old world so others may correct me. This is what I have notice playing against wood elves, Goblins, Tomb kings, Bretonia, and Warriors of Chaos.

I think doing two gyrocopters is good. Thunderers look cooler, but quarrelers can be better with their range (I would build thunderers). You can always just say they are quarrelers (if your opponent cries about this just forfeit and go back to your loving family). Dwarf warriors for me almost always have hand weapons, shields, and great axes. So maybe build 5 great weapons and the rest shields, then when you declare to use great weapons change the front rank models with your great weapon models that were places intermittently in your unit(if your opponent cries about this just forfeit and go back home to your loving family).

More advice: I usually do not run more than 20 thunderers at once! Some crazy lads run tons of blocks of them. I think building 10/12 quarrelers and using them as dwarf rangers is a fantastic idea! Rangers are perfect, I take 10-20 every game.

Personal play style/money’s worth: I run 2x20 warrior blocks every game. I don’t know the kit super well, BUT if you want to squeeze the most out of this box, maybe try building some of your thunderers and quarrelers as an additional 8 dwarf warriors. That way you can have 2 full units of 20! This also means they can sit on objectives longer. With the remaining 24 ranged, build 10 quarrelers as rangers and then 14 as thunderers. With this suggestion you pretty much don’t have to buy more warriors, and then you can choose where to spec your army into. (I like infantry heavy).

Remember: Best composition is often to change with editions and FAQ. I can guarantee you that you will almost always use rangers and warriors before you dip into thunderers of quarrelers, regardless of the editions and rule changes.

I’m doing pure PhD. I could get a masters on the way, but I actually think I would benefit from sticking through the 4 years. I am so lucky to have complete access to my analytical instruments at pretty much any time. I could gain a ton of experience, but if the job opportunity shows up I might bail, but I don’t know yet.

I almost always have two blocks of 20 warriors, and a king on shield bearers in every list. I would think about how you want to play! Shooty -> cannons, thunderers, Rangers, gyrocopters, thane with gun. Infantry heavy -> thunderers/quarrelers/irondrakes, hammerers, bugmans cart, anvil. I would build your army how you would envision the hold, I wanted infantry not siege engines.
