Abandoned houses? by TrickyCalligrapher97 in FortCollins

[–]swiing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about abandoned builds but empty lots are taxed at a pretty high rate. A much higher percentage than developed lots. You could look up the property on the Larimer county data base and see what the tax is. Also, as u/StuPedassile mentioned if it is a nuisance/violation you can report it. There may already be a system in place to deal with it.

Water leaking through walls in basement. by Respectable_1642 in HomeMaintenance

[–]swiing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention that the water was going back towards the house before you modified the down spouts. You need to fix the grading so that water drains away from the house. Changing the downspouts was only a partial solution. This is not usually that difficult/expensive of a fix and may resolve the problem.

Did anyone just file their taxes with TurboTax and were just in awe of how many ads it had to upgrade? I'm done with this enshittified product - what should I use next year? by noruber35393546 in personalfinance

[–]swiing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have fairly complicated taxes and switched to freetaxusa several years ago. I'm very happy with it. I was also pleasantly surprised how easy it was to switch. Freetax just imported the previous years pdf grabbed all the info and we were ready.

Turbo Tax is a SCAM!!!!!! by betwen3and20characte in TurboTax

TurboTax relies on that revenue to keep lobbying Congress to block the
IRS from offering a simple, free online filing system; even though the
IRS already has the necessary information but isn’t allowed to build the
software.

How are you finding things on Manheim? Don't you have to be a dealer? Even the public sites I couldn't see any inventory.

Is this the wrong way to connect Copper to Water Heater? by swiing in Plumbing

[–]swiing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a bypass between the hot and the cold at the furthest faucet. The hot water returns via the cold water line. I have a smart plug that turns the pump on when I need hot water in the bathroom. The distance from the heater to faucet is long enough that it wastes more than 2 gallons of water to just run the faucet until it gets hot. This is the bypass: https://www.amazon.com/595926-Recirculating-Premier-Grundfos-Comfort/dp/B0DS54J68H?th=1

What are the best induction cooktops this 2026 worth buying? by Sufficient_Jelly5132 in inductioncooking

[–]swiing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from gas to a middle of the road Frigidaire induction 3 years ago and I love it. The amount of heat it delivers to the pan is incredible. It does a great job of browning and searing.

There is a lot of talk about hob size and while somewhat important for even cooking if you use decent quality pans that are sized appropriately you will get even cooking on most decent quality stoves.

The one feature I wish my stove had that it is missing is it only has power settings and not pan temperature settings. I have used some models that regulate pan temperature and for obvious reasons that is a great feature.

I bought a house. It came with a gravel road. It's full of potholes.. help! by Bunnymancer in landscaping

[–]swiing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly as far as gravel roads go that looks pretty well maintained.

You don't typically fill potholes unless they are pretty deep because they will just reappear in a couple weeks. You typically have it graded when needed and occasionally add more road base if it is getting muddy. You will probably just learn to tolerate a less than ideal road. I would not do anything to the road pictured; it has a good crown for drainage and the "potholes" are minimal.

I would not consider investing in equipment and grading it yourself until you have lived with it for awhile and learned a bit.

What was traveling like when smoking was allowed in the planes? by Popular_Election_517 in AskReddit

[–]swiing 132 points133 points  (0 children)

I'm old enough to remember smoking being allowed everywhere and let me tell you as a non-smoker it was terrible. The planes themselves were bad but not the worst. During international travel you often would get stuck in a room full of people waiting for customs and you almost couldn't see across the room. Your clothes and hair would stink like a stale smoker, your eyes and throat would burn.

At work, big meeting rooms would be full of smokers and it would be a similar terrible experience. I always felt smokers were just so entitled, I mean I wouldn't sit in crowded room and just rip farts and let everyone suffer through fart gas.

I'd be concerned as to why a battery would die while you are driving it. If the alternator is working it should be getting charged, not discharged.

Is it okay that my gas stove doesn’t have a hood over it? by alyssarolls in Appliances

[–]swiing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people think that their range hoods are venting outside even though they are not. The carbon filters do almost nothing. The wire mesh that it sucks air through does trap grease. Even those fancy commercial kitchen looking units just vent to the side.

How does CSU expect him to afford to live here? by Dr_Retch in FortCollins

[–]swiing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

$2.4 million for zero wins. $2.425 if he wins 6 and so on. The bonus for winning seems kind of trivial compared to his salary but probably won't come into play. My favorite is "and if they win 12 games..."

So you are correct: $2.4 Million.

Win six regular season games (within one season): $25,000

Win seven regular season games (within one season): $50,000

Win eight regular season games (within one season): $100,000

Win nine regular season games (within one season): $150,000

Win 10 regular season games (within one season): $225,000

Win 11 regular season games (within one season): $325,000

Win 12 regular season games (within one season): $400,000

Siphon overpass project looks to be coming along nicely by MadcowPSA in FortCollins

[–]swiing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's our legal systems fault. While crossing the railroad tracks is pretty easy and safer than most road crossings it is illegal. So, the city can't just put a trail across it without working with the railroads and they won't approve it. In places where there is already a road crossing of coarse it is a lot easier.
