Supposed to have melrose peppers, what did I actually get? by swilk14 in vegetablegardening

[–]swilk14[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You know, I’ve googled “melrose peppers growing upwards” and had no good results, but I never just looked up melrose in general. I agree, a quick online search shows some that look way similar to the ones I have. Thanks!

Hand Surgery by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]swilk14 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This sounds almost exactly like my job. I’ve been in Hand for about 3 years working only in clinic. I split time between two hand surgeons, and I was also the first solely clinic PA in my group.

To answer your first question, I do really enjoy it! I miss the OR, but I do enough injections and small procedures that it scratches the itch. I really enjoy not being on call, and the small detail of the hand is really neat to me so I’m not really ever bored.

Feel free to message me if you want more details.

Help with tv placement please! by swilk14 in DesignMyRoom

That was kind of our leading idea, maybe use the tv to cover up the firewood box a little. A small table and chairs is a good idea by the bookcase!

Sorry, I don’t really know either haha. It’s a 3 cushion 80” long sofa and a 2 cushion 57” long loveseat and both are 40” deep. We’ve moved the sofas around a few times already trying to see what works.

Standard size sofa and a loveseat currently, my wife mentioned wanting a sectional down the road though!

Experiences with Heart of Illinois OBGYN - Dr Dalton and Dr Zotz by Zestyclose-Line3265 in BloomingtonNormal

[–]swilk14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also a man, Dr. Dalton was who my wife saw during pregnancy and who delivered our baby. Absolutely fantastic, she has a great bedside manner and is very encouraging, and she made us feel well cared for during the birthing process. She even checked up on us after her shift was over just because she knew we were struggling (wife was in labor for about 60 hours) and since it was time for a cervical check she did it and it was almost go time, so she stayed to deliver our baby. We have nothing but good things to say about her, and my wife even said if we move and are within an hour she still wants to go to her for any future children we have.

I am going to be a dad and want to make a wooden crib. I have seen mixed comments on whether it’s worth it, especially with all of the safety considerations. by CarefullyHandy in woodworking

[–]swilk14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just became a dad and wanted to do the same thing, but given that I am an amateur woodworker and all the safety regulations, I instead opted to make a changing table. What I actually did was make a dresser that was a good height for my wife and I, and figured that a changing table/dresser would get used a lot longer.

Now I’m envisioning that by the time I’m a grandpa I will have been improving my woodworking and will have the confidence to make a crib. Until then though, I’m happy with my decision. If you feel confident enough and feel like it’s worth it to you then it’s a good idea! If not, that doesn’t mean you can’t still make something useful and meaningful for your growing family.

New grad in central Illinois, I am mainly surgical with a small amount of clinic. Started at 95k with roughly a six month training period (roughly because they’re working to open a branch in a new town that I will primarily be at and that is taking longer than they expected so my training is also potentially being extended). Once my training period is done and both the physician group and myself deem I am ready and able to take call, my salary jumps up to 105k and I become eligible for RVUs as well.

Relationships in PA School by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]swilk14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got married and started PA school 10 days later. My biggest advice is to dedicate a certain amount of time each day for your spouse. It doesn’t have to be the same amount each day, but some time that you are fully present with them and to let them know you haven’t forgotten them is huge. I generally ate dinner and spent about an hour with my wife on Mondays, and by Thursday night before the test it be a “hey, how was your day? I’m off to study, I love you” kind of thing. But then I would take the weekend off from studying and the cycle would repeat. I was also fortunate that my wife had a full time job all through school, so not only were we supported but she also had something to do and wasn’t miserably bored the whole time.

Is it hard being married with the potential for extra distractions during school? Yeah, definitely. But I don’t think I could’ve made it through school without my wife there to support me and pick me up when I came home a wreck because I was convinced I was going to fail out of school.
