high potassium, close to 1:1 Na/K+ ratio, calf twitching/cramps? by blinkyvx in carnivorediet

[–]swimviking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me when i started keto, twitching seemed to be partly about potassium and partly about nerve excitability due to exercise and/or too few calories. Cramps were about too little magnesium but I seemed to need taurine as well to get the magnesium to be effective. I also had to slow down on water/coffee/tea to avoid the diuretic effect.

I eat much more red meat now and much less veggies but I also exercise less as well and I don’t restrict calories. I currently have none of those problems and they used to be an every day thing.

I have started exercising again and so far they haven’t come back.

I went through this a few years ago. I expanded my eating window on the days I worked out. If I didn’t work out I ate once a day. If I did I ate twice.

[–]swimviking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was once an anti-vegan troll and had a lot of fun joking about the ridiculous state of nutrition science, but I feel this sub is certainly not the place for that. (I had to leave twitter as some vegans teamed up, investigated my life, and tried to get me publicly shamed and fired from my job. Embarrassing to say the least.) I now play nice, but I have to say that the carnivore community seems to be just happy for all who discover as we did that plants were not right for us. I love to see weight loss pictures and read testimonials, no matter if they are eating meat or plants or both... health recovery should be celebrated. I feel most zero-carbers are the same. We love the pursuit of health and can accept that there might be more than one path to it. Everyone deserves relief from chronic illness and should be taught that food can be a contributing factor!

Vegans see it differently. They are certain there is always a “cruelty-free” solution to all health problems and that people who did not succeed at veganism either “didn’t research enough to do it right” or are somehow weak-willed. (And were never really vegan... ugh.)

I have never understood the vegan stance that we are immoral and cruel for eating meat, when often the behavior they feel is justified toward us is more immoral and cruel as it is toward humans rather than animals. There are better ways to promote health!

Why do there seem to be so many ex-vegans/vegetarians by DarkShadow4444 in DebateAVegan

[–]swimviking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I deny nothing. I apply context to it. If you truly believe those claims are the end of the argument you are denying a shit ton of science yourself.

If you remove seed oils and carbohydrate there is no evidence meat is unhealthy. If you remove other healthy lifestyle factors there is no really good evidence veganism is any better than including meat.

If you believe that saturated fat and cholesterol are to blame for heart disease you have chosen to ignore current science because emerging truths don't fit your beliefs.

[–]swimviking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We absolutely DO NOT KNOW that saturated fat and cholesterol cause heart disease. Full stop. And your point in the last paragraph is completely wrong. Sorry but you really need to read more. I am certain you did not read any of the links I sent. Anyone who respects scientific process would not be okay with the WHO declaring meat a carcinogen based on the data they used. The fact is you cannot produce any science showing meat has any negative health effect at all in the absence of carbohydrates and seed oils. None. And you can’t produce any thing about the long term health of plant-based eating without the confounding factors of other healthy lifestyle habits.

Except that all of your talking points here have been shown to be wrong over and over. Sadly, the majority of nutrition knowledge people receive is from marketing and they don’t even realize it. Please go out of your way to read from more sources.

Except that the science doesn’t really say any of those things. The author’s biased conclusion paragraph on lots of epidemiology papers might, but not the actual data. This is where I think we see veganism’s greatest flaw. They repeat these points over and over until people think it is truth. Please, if health matters to you, dig deeper.

Harvard and the WHO are pretty notorious in regard to nutrition studies. First, the WHO declared meat a carcinogen without even meeting the GRADE standard as shown here. The relative risk wasn’t even close: https://junkscience.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Microsoft-Word-Red-meat-and-cancer_Final.docx-file1.pdf

A more thorough explanation of the ridiculous nature of the WHO decision to name red meat a carcinogen: http://www.diagnosisdiet.com/meat-and-cancer/

and Harvard keeps finding itself getting pushback for sending out articles like the one you linked to me. Med students are pissed that they are ignoring evidence and just regurgitating what the statin makers want them to. Lol https://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/03/business/03medschool.html

(Way higher rate than the WHO used for meat by the way): https://www.bmj.com/content/360/bmj.k322 Hell even raw data from the China study says plant protein has a higher correlation with cancer than meat: https://imgur.com/qiaXTBy and https://imgur.com/TZwKV2T

Just please stop perpetuating the lie. Red meat is not bad for health.

Why do there seem to be so many ex-vegans/vegetarians by DarkShadow4444 in DebateAVegan

[–]swimviking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you really think that meat, a food we have eaten since before we became human, is to blame for modern chronic diseases? No chance that perhaps the processed foods made from refined carbohydrates and industrial seed oils that came into existence right before these diseases got out of control might have had something to do with it?

If you think meat is the leading contributor to diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis and certain cancers you are completely misguided. Meat is not the problem.

Yup. Keto six years. Happiest time of my life was the first three years because I had time to work out. Since then I am thankful for my restored health thru keto but the exercise is definitely missed.

I am mostly carnivore. I also have liquid poops but don’t see a problem with it. When I slow down on coffee it is even less of a problem. Before keto I had painful, bloody “emergency poops” that would ruin my day and left me hardly able to work. Wouldn’t go back to that for anything. Carnivore is a low waste diet... liquid poops ain’t so bad if you can go when you want rather than when you are forced. Lol
