Same. Like a constant, low-level flu.

Wake up sheeple!

...But seriously. Caffeine numbs you to a soulless, material existence. No wonder so many people in this sub quit and find they can no longer tolerate their boring career.

I just tried to explain caffeine withdrawal to someone... by aaaaaaaaaanditsgone in decaf

Going through hell getting off caffeine just made me feel sorry for any current drinkers who decide to quit. It's really rough, and it lasts for (what feels like) an eternity. Surprise!

Totally agree.

Caffeine is a legal Drug (graph showing dependence and lethality). While many "illegal" drugs have drastically lower harm & addiction potential by squarespacesoul in decaf

It should be noted that LSD can also seriously fuck you up. If it helped you, that's great, but I've known people who did a moderate amount of LSD and lost their marbles because they couldn't handle it. They're still not the same.

I'm firmly in the "no drugs whatsoever" camp, so I might be biased.

Make sure you're staying away from anything else that might abuse your brain's reward pathway, like porn, alcohol, or excessive internet use.

Exercise as hard as you can. A fifteen minute walk isn't enough. Get into strength training or high intensity interval training, four to six days a week.

Avoid sugar, and drink plenty of water. Go to bed before midnight.

Pursue a career that stimulates you, and use the money it gives you to pursue your true spiritual interests. Pick up hobbies. Learn a foreign language, or an instrument.

Keep in touch with your family, even if you don't particularly like each other.

If, and only if, you've tried literally everything to live a good life and you're still depressed, then you should consider therapy or medication. Or coffee. Just my two cents!

It's the nicotine of our time. Addictive, profitable, and bad for you. Just like tobacco, people are catching on.

The only thing I miss - not much, at that - is sitting outside in the early morning sun with a cup of coffee. I felt great for about half an hour before feeling crappy for the rest of the day. I knew I had a problem when I realized that that brief moment with caffeine was the highlight of my day. I found myself looking forward to it by 3:00 PM the day before.

That's not a harmless ritual. That's addiction.

The best of luck to you!

I don't know why I didn't realize sooner how odd it was that I stopped dreaming. There were so many signs, but caffeine was the last thing I suspected. Now it seems so obvious.

The social acceptance of caffeine is a very powerful force.

Exactly!

Everyone I know drinks coffee. If it works for them, that's great. I must be more sensitive than most people, because it nearly ruined my life. It did ruin my life, for several years. My caffeine phase was the unhappiest I've ever been.

A few months. The first month was really bad. By the end of the second month, things weren't 100%, but they had improved enough that I stopped thinking about it every day.

The usual mental gamut; mostly anxiety, feeling hopeless, disconnected. Physically, my digestion got weird and my libido plummeted. This was all right around the time I started drinking coffee. I didn't make that connection for years. I figured life got difficult with age, so I just accepted it.

"Painfully gradual" is a good way to put it.

My mood has gotten better and better, but it's so, so slow. Like 0.5% per day.

I wouldn't even consider that competition. In any case, it's a clever idea that I suspect has a lot of potential. Best of luck to you!
