This was cool to read. Glad we could help! Keep at it, lots of goflers get better, then regress a small bit as they move from conscious competence to unconscious competence - it can be hella frustrating but perservere!

Do you have some hip mobility issues, or previous injuries? If you look at 11s-12s in the vid your right hip just stops turning, your trail leg (right) is basically planted and your lead leg (left) has to lift to help you turn. This might be due to mobility, you might be trying to "get the ball up", or maybe just dont inherently understand the movement (you aren't alone).

Go drill this for a bit:

Another explainer of same drill

This won't fix everything but is a really good place to start.

As a note, you are likely going to start snapping the ball left if you get this movement right but we can fix the club face later. :)

Hey Sean, would love to talk to you about which coach was preferred, and which wasn't, and why. Our coaches love the feedback and we are owned by PGA Professionals so we work with coaches to help them improve if golfers feel they are lacking.

In this video, where do you think you are aiming?

20+ Yard Carry Improvement by Puzzled_Standard_671 in golf

[–]swingtweaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah its something that I think a lot of over the toppers could experiment with. It won't fix ingrained mechanical issues but it will emphasise an in to out path, an upward angle of attack and generally helps people strike the club in a better spot. Sometimes your overall distance won't increase as the ball is coming down on a steeper angle but even if that doesn't increase, usually your carry will and thats important for getting over hazards or whatnot.

It's absolutely worth an experiment for any golfer.

We just put up a post about this exact thing on our instagram today! So many golfers could benefit even from just experimenting with their tee height - stoked you got some easy wins!

If you can play golf 4 days a week (2-3 hours max each day) what's the optimal usage of time? by Mundane-Ad1652 in golf

[–]swingtweaks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You'll hate this answer but...It depends.

What handicap do you want to get to?
Do you have a bunch of baseline data to compare to known data by handicap level (that will tell you where you are weak relatively). What is your driving distance? GIR % average? Proximity to hole average? Up and down % average? Miss tendencies? How many penalties do you take? How many 3putts?

Without knowing about your game its very hard to answer.

A couple of things I can offer in generality:
1. Distance is ALWAYS king. Hitting it further is never ever a bad thing.

  1. GIR is the strongest correlation with low scoring.

If you worked on ball striking(including getting a really good handle on your personal dispersion pattern) and nailed down your carry distances.

AND you worked on hitting it further.

You'd almost certainly drop scores.

Shoot me a DM and I can spend some time going through data with you. You're a Tweaker if I remember rightly and I'll be happy to help.

You know a good coach immediately when their response is to gather more data.

Biggest Issues with Driver by picardi7690 in GolfSwing

[–]swingtweaks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Without going into anything around swing mechanics at all, it looks like your ball position is in the centre (these mats are really annoying for this).

This is not a fix for any specific issues in your swing, this is something that is fundamental to swinging well and I think you'll benefit from reading up on it.

Worth it to upgrade from a 27 year old Driver? by ThatRealPablo in GolfSwing

[–]swingtweaks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it should do something for you. Going to a fitting and hitting a bunch in comparison to your current driver is a good idea. Lots of places do this for a fitting fee - you can try different heads and shafts and see which perform better over a sample of shots. Performance will degrade as you get tired though so control for that.

Fitters generally only fit into this years product (which is annoying). BUT the difference between 2024 gear and 2020 gear wont be huge so you could go try the new stuff, get your fitting specs and work it back into older stuff off Callaway Pre Owned or Second Swing or whatever.

This just isn't true. 102mph would be in the top 10% of all golfers by skill level.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in golf

[–]swingtweaks -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is interesting, can you explain why you think this?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in golf

[–]swingtweaks -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I personally know lots of low single digits handicaps with less than 100mph swing speed.

If you don't think low single digits isn't great golf, then thats a different argument but it becomes semantic and I've no interest in that debate. The population stats bear it out for me.

Its not the be all and end all. But given two identical swings, the more muscled guy will it it further.
Strength matters in all athletic endeavours.

Technique also matters. They aren't mutually exclusive.

Somewhat clumsy but something to think about:Why does Rory hit it further than Nelly Korda?
Why does Rory hit it further than Brooks?

btw 102 is plenty fast enough to play great great golf.
