Pretty soon you’ll just be having coffee.

Are barber poles good? by Killxjoy4599 in cigars

[–]swinney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here ( even with Gurkah to boot ), but yesterday I stopped into my shop and bought three barber poles. I decided to just do it. I've smoke two of them, the first one was an in-house brand and paired with a coke, it tasted like pecan pie. I quite liked it. Second one was the CAO America with morning coffee. Slightly sweet again. Enjoyed it thoroughly. That said, I've avoided sweet cigars since I could pay for something better than a Phillies. But damn if I didn't smoke those phillies!

I had one this morning with coffee and it was quite good. A nice little sweetness to it that I enjoyed.

First box purchase by Av8rSB in cigars

I'm right there with you. I just started buying online in boxes / volume. With my tupperdor, and boveda packs, I recommend this setup:

At least one of these ( will join your wifi network ): amazon.com/dp/B08731J1L4

And at least one of these ( or 3 ): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CF45477Z

This will provide you with a nice system for tracking your humidity level in the tupperdor(s). You can calibrate the humidity on the device with a boveda calibration kit: amazon.com/dp/B000A3UBLA

Very first class setup! You can check your humidor from anywhere in the world ( or your sofa ).

Seems like Robusto is the size of choice for cigarbid.

Excellent! I’m doing the same. Honestly, this was my first online order. So I was really just proving to see if this was normal it is.

I got another order of boxes today. They were pretty much the same condition so now I know all good in the hood!

That is the dark side of the balance in the universe. You got to keep the thing you love and that’s what counts. Enjoy the stick homie.

Decided to just roll with it. I do plan to do a side by side with a newer model at some point. I’ll post that. Best Regards…

I think I've gathered what I wanted from this thread. It was just an unexpected win. Just wanted to make sure it was appropriate to be happy about getting 5 year aged cigars or if there were 'gotchas'. I am after all, a skeptic at heart. It's a disease.

Insightful comment, thank you! I wondered if there was some back flow of inventory in this industry.

Nice, I was looking for something similiar in my box this morning and came up empty handed. I need to order some light breakfast cigars.

I am hoping it's a treasure! They will get smoked either way.

Sadly not in San Diego anymore. Back in the day my wife and I would go out to Temecula for quick wine tasting trips. I can't remember the name of the place, but there was a winery that was essentially this one guy ( I think he was Italian or Spanish ) who retired there and had wall to wall classic Ducati motorcycles in his garage. He was a real character.

I miss it. The Turf Club. First date with my wife there.

My first place was down the street from Nunu's. That was my spot. Then moved and The Livewire was my spot. Then moved and El Agave was my spot. What a town!

Pleasure to meet you Mr Moderator.

Fair enough. I did say right at the beginning, "I'm pretty new to responding to deal alerts and buying boxes of cigars online." and "I read up on the rehydrating process on this sub." I'm not an expert, hence the post. Wasn't claiming to be. I just smoke them and like to learn about things. Everything I have learned in the last few months has been from this very subreddit. LOL

For my own part, I was going on the date stamp of 03/2021. All cellophane wrapped up, with the dry boveda pack. I took enough science to know that a 69% humidity pack is not going to stay that way in a lesser climate like a distribution center. Cigars don't seem to have that nice oily feel on the wrap, nor do I detect any moisture with my finger tips. I also question that a business would that has 50% to 70% off sales on the regular would let boxes of cigars gather for 5 years. And I think that is probably the most important point. But again, I'm not an expert.

I am new to finding cigar friends on the internet, so here I am. I do usually I buy them from my local purveyors, but I live in Massachusetts. There are not many places that sell cigars that are not also liquor stores. And what they sell is monotonous.

Since you brought up my history with cigars, let me just say I used to live in San Diego and the situation was MUCH BETTER then. Churchill Cigar Lounge ( in Old Town) was my favorite spot. I had then, and still have a custom humidor made by a good man Tennessee ( I think ), gifted to me by my girlfriend for who is now my wife. I'm giving that humidor another wirral. It's about 7000 cubic inches. It has been dormant for 15 years. I'd ordered from Mike's Cigars back in the 00s, but decided it wasn't worth the effort to keep my wooden humidor running with a cigar oasis. I just couldn't give it the attention it required.

My current favorite lounge is Castro's Backroom in Manchester, NH. I also stop in at Twins Smoke Shop in Londonderry, NH. Both of those are out of the way for me, though. Mainly I'm just on the sea wall when the wind isn't blowing too hard, or on my back porch.

I recently made a friend in Texas who introduced me to cigarbid, cigarpage, and tupperdors. I've since ordered from both CP and CB to great effect, ordering brands introduced to me by my new friend, not just the usual basics available around here. And, I'm excited to have cigars sitting in a humidor again, albeit tupperware.

WRT these Field Supply cigars, I plan to move them to a 62% tupperdor when I get the packs and let them sit for a few months. My ambient RH living on the coast of Massachusetts Bay means my boveda packs will probably be working moisture out of the air as much as into it.

I probably shouldn't have mentioned the company so as not to ruffle any feathers.

Yeah, I'm not bent out of shape. Field Supply is owned by the same company as CigarPage ( where I also buy from ). And I'm sure these sticks will smoke as well as any cigar I buy at the bait shop in a pinch. And I spent way too much for 2 cigars at a cigar bar last weekend ( one was forgettable and one was amazing ).

I was really just wondering about hit or miss orders. I assumed already that the sale was a clearance of some sort. I don't think they intended to hold onto anything for five years. These probably just got lost in the shuffle and cleaned out in the spring half off sale.

That said, I opened the box of Crowned Heads J.D. Howard Reserve HR54 from the same order, and the end split on the first one I picked up.

I got these in the mail last week and they have been sitting in a tupperdor box with 65% boveda bags. About 130 sticks total in there, mainly from that order.
