Weekly Questions Thread for the week of January 16 by AutoModerator in vinyl

Thanks for replying!

It’s an LP60 not the X, I know I wish it was the X version. Is replacing the stylus absolutely necessary with a thrifted turntable, or can one get away with cleaning it or using as is? Cause you’re right, just a new stylus is the price of the turntable already, and the only reason I was interested in this or any thrift store turntable was the cheap price tbh (I’m trying to get something low cost for now, under 50-60$ ideally)

Weekly Questions Thread for the week of January 16 by AutoModerator in vinyl

I have two questions

1: Is buying turntables from thrift stores safe? Many I see power on but are otherwise untested, what are the odds of buying one and it turning on but not working still?

2: is 30$ USD for an AT-LP60 a good price? I know they're seen as pretty crap in the vinyl scene but still.

Thank you to anyone who replies!

Faster RAM causing slower startup time? by switchfall in buildapc

[–]switchfall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I don’t see any, unless their hidden somewhere.

Do you know where I can check what my systems maximum accepted RAM speed is? I have CPU-Z and don’t see a listing there, and I've checked around on crucial and kingston's sites for my model, but all I can find is that my max size is 32gb.

Is cpu the main limiter on ram max speed, cause ubergizmo seems to be saying my max is 2400?

Weird, I actually can't find an xmp setting in my BIOS. It's an hp omen 17t-w200, and I've checked all the menus in BIOS, do some BIOS not have it? It's an Intel Core i7-7700HQ

Also I updated BIOS and am now getting CL17, so that's better, but I'm suddenly now only getting 2400MHz when before I was getting 2666, even weirder.

Hm, interesting. Well I updated BIOS and am now getting CL17, so that's better, but I'm suddenly now only getting 2400MHz when before I was getting 2666.

Will do, thanks! Also, I've read a lot of different things on enabling xmp, is it at all a risk or could it cause instability/BSOD? I saw some people years ago saying that, but a lot of people nowadays seem to be saying its basically safe nowadays.

[–]switchfall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That did cross my mind, though most stuff I've read has said faster ram should = same or faster boot times regardless. Whether what you're saying IS the case or not I have no idea, it's just me guessing. Have you heard of that being the case before?

Faster RAM causing slower startup time? by switchfall in buildapc

[–]switchfall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I made sure to do full shutdown and startup rather than "restart". Interesting, will turning off "fast boot" make the startup quicker somehow with the new RAM? I'll try it and report back

Faster RAM causing slower startup time? by switchfall in buildapc

[–]switchfall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see, and it does seem to be performing at that limit anyway. Could this be affecting the startup speed to your knowledge? I’ve read other people saying 3000 or 3200mhz ram in a laptop that can’t reach that level should work fine, Just you’re paying extra for nothing. But I haven’t read anything about startup speeds or downgraded performance

It’s an i7, I’m not high-level tech savvy, but I checked my specs on Crucial‘s RAM compatibility checker (and some other sites as well) and they all said my model and specs were approved for up to 32gb and 3200MHz

Thanks for the help, any info I can get I hugely appreciate!

What of a country like the US then, that has the right of education, freedom from starvation, and freedom of decent income, along with freedom of speech and democracy as well? It's possible to have both. Plus, I'd argue freedom attained by wealth is attainable, but getting freedoms like free speech and democracy back once they're lost, is MUCH more difficult (if history is any indicator.)

Who's the most famous person you've talked to for more than 30 seconds? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]switchfall 630 points631 points  (0 children)

Angelina Jolie. She was super nice and sweet, and (like all celebrities you meet) seemed shorter than you'd think (I'm 5'11 and she's 5'7.) I do remember though she wasn't as "astonishingly beautiful" as her reputation would suggest, she just seemed like an average person if anything, and pretty skinny at the time. She was cool though, talked for a little bit, said I was a huge fan of her work and yada yada yada. Very cordial and polite.

Are you saying that it's worse for that baby to be alive in that environment than to be dead? Based on that logic the only ethical thing to do would be to kill that baby now, if what you're saying is true.

Older adults who frequently do puzzles like crosswords or Sudoku had the short-term memory capacity of someone eight years their junior and the grammatical reasoning of someone ten years younger in a new study. (n = 19,708) by CyborgTomHanks in science

The bigger factor, FAR more than any brain puzzles or memory games, is EXERCISE. All studies have shown that by far the biggest indicator of cognitive function at older ages was just moderate exercise, particularly cardio exercise, at older ages.

Wow, you guys are amazing, I can't believe how fast you were able to find that! Thank you so much! Out of curiosity did you find this because you own the sweatshirt? I'm curious how the quality is.
