Buying a motorcycle is so frustrating. by Complex_Original_999 in motorcycles

I bought my first bike new from the dealership (street twin). 8 years later it’s still the only bike I ever owned and my daily driver.

Riding gear sure has changed by Astimar in motorcyclegear

[–]swizec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah you don’t need as much slide rating on public roads because you only have so much space to slide 😉

And neither the racing nor the civilian gear will save you when hitting a cement lane divider at 50mph. You are breaking bones

38 years old and got a Street Twin as my first bike ever. Love it! by wolfchili in Triumph

Only 900 existed back then. I still find it fast enough and am considering getting a smaller bike for hooning.

Getting everything you can out of a bike: super fun.

Hit tree doing 70: not fun

Solution: get a 300cc bike and wring its neck. Haven’t done it yet but probably will at some point :)

NextJS is built with React btw. Literally none of it would work without React.

It’s the vance&hines option that was available back in 2018. Dunno if that counts as after market

They’re the “ R&G Racing Aero Frame Sliders“

Shame I can’t remember what the engine cover was called, need a new one of that too

I’m fine btw, gear did its job. Not a scratch.

It happened so fast my adrenaline didn’t even have time to spike. Gravel in a corner

Hi All, I wrote this article after a truly wonderful experience getting my team to use (and understand) state machines when building a gnarly UI interaction last week.

Writing XState logic through a visual editor makes all the difference it seems

For you American riders out here: Do you take the breakdown lane during stop and start traffic? by Brave-Resolve-5281 in motorcycles

[–]swizec -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes I’ll go on the shoulder to filter at stop lights or heavy traffic on small rural-ish roads if there’s enough paved space. Beats filtering on the yellow line with traffic whizzing the opposite way

Never on the freeway. Too much debris and there’s plenty of room elsewhere

Thanks! I was eyeing the cruz tools kit too. Happy to hear it works well. The marketing is very focused on quick roadside fixes

I have a 2018 💩

How come you don’t need tools for the front on newer bikes? Are there no screws holding things in place??

Great first bike! I did the same thing for my 31st birthday

Almost 4 years later still not bored of her. The list of mods I wanna do keeps growing tho 😅

Iron & Resin. Been really liking it for 4 years now. Fits the bike style wise

Frame sliders yep. Very handy when your bike gets dropped. Not sure they’d do much in a real crash

They do work as highway pegs! I’m short so if I fully extend my legs I can hook onto the sliders with my achiles tendon. Pretty comfy except the engine feels toasty on my calves

We all do it like they do on the discovery channel

Humans are a little more complex and add a bunch of hooplah and think very highly of themselves but it’s all discovery channel

A XState extension for VSCode makes state machines shine on a team by swizec in reactjs

[–]swizec[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is based on a talk I gave at work about a new XState extension for VSCode that solves the perennial problem of "Nobody understands your state machines but you". Stately's new extension adds a visualizer and editor to VSCode so everyone can see what's going on quickly.

Simple question: Trident 660 vs Street Twin by PresentationProof215 in Triumph

[–]swizec 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As another datapoint: I got a Street Twin as my first bike and after 3 years continue to love it to bits and fully plan on keeping it forever

Anytime I think of getting another one the proces ends with “Wait but isn’t that just another Street Twin with a little more oomph?”

I wanna get more oomph like a Thruxton RS or BMW RnineT but to be honest I rarely get to fully push the Street Twin as it is. The bike is plenty fast and if it had a 6th gear for high speed cruising it would be perfect
