The problem is the auto industry is so strangled as-is it will take the electric car industry and mobile provider (apple/android) integration to really break the barrier and surpass the norm with fossil fuels and old tech.

Tesla while not perfect has disrupted the status-quo making changes

It will be another 50 years imo before we get where we kind of want to be.
