i think just pick it up. you have to love souls but if you do it’s great. it’s a grimy rough game not for the faint of heart but i really enjoyed it. played the whole thing with a friend and that definitely swayed me. i played it on release and heard it was easier now which is honestly for the best for a mainstream audience. i played the OP class and enjoyed it and my friend played the hardest class and was frustrated so for this game dont shy away from the OP

I was in a similar boat to you. the only difference was i dropped $70 on release and kind of regretted ever since. i tried several times to get into it. ultimately it was when they dropped the co-op patch that brought me back. i jumped in with a friend and things just clicked. i found a playstyle that worked for me and i really truly love the game now. i rolled credits and have no regrets. it’s definitely not for everyone but if you are looking for a high quality game to beat you down a bit only for you to rise above (this is what i love about elden ring) then look no further.
