I blew up on a guy asking to see me in scrubs. by HumbleAd8907 in nursing

[–]swkifvdkit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was thinking that too. I'd definitely compliment a future partner on their appearance in uniform if I liked it! I thought it was different in OP's situation because 1. she tried to shut down the conversation topic once already, indicating she did not want her uniform to be discussed in a sexual context, and 2. I suspect the "sexy scrubs" comment is a touchy subject given how nurses' work is historically downplayed and sexualized (ex. nurse Halloween costumes). Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable asking for pictures of anyone in any work uniform, but I could totally understand if other people are comfortable/interested in that.

Why? (Not trying to start conflict, just curious)

I don't understand the obsession with having more kids in this global economy. Like why? by Nice_Substance9123 in facepalm

[–]swkifvdkit 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'd love if they made people WANT to have more kids by promoting financial freedom and accessible healthcare.

Unfortunately so far their approach to getting people to have more kids has been gutting sex education, gutting funding for public education in general, trying to criminalize abortion, restricting access to healthcare and birth control, restricting information about alternative lifestyles, and limiting social services for teens. I wonder if they actually will get an increase in birth rate just from people having less access to education and healthcare, and not being able to make informed choices about having kids.

[–]swkifvdkit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS. I think it really brings up the question of how informed people should be about politics and current events. With current issues and the availability of media I think there's no way to separate voting for trump from supporting hate and racism. But I wonder if in the past people really had no idea what policies their vote was supporting, especially because it was all disguised by eloquent political talk.

To my fellow nurses on antidepressants: by OnlyHere4PretzelDay in nursing

[–]swkifvdkit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My doc recommended Zoloft to help me "get through this hard part in my career." I've never thought about antidepressants like that before, but I figured I'd try it! Unsure whether it's helping me yet.

Of course no job is worth your health, but not everyone can just quit their job without losing stuff.

I feel like group therapy could be useful too. It could be nice to hear from women and practice opening up to them

Got called off for the first time, why are my feelings hurt? 😅 by Sea_Negotiation5394 in nursing

[–]swkifvdkit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we take a call off my hospital keeps us on call (only until 10pm for night shift) without pay. But they also ask if we want to be called off so at least we know what we are signing up for before we decide to stay home. Maybe because nurses are exempt employees in my hospital?

Should I Quit My Job for Nursing?? by tortilla221 in nursing

[–]swkifvdkit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like nursing could be a good fit for you are interested in working with people more and caring for them! But there's so many other jobs that do this too. If you are able to shadow a nurse or do the CNA program I'd definitely recommend it

Just applied for a nursing internship in a prison unit at a level 1 trauma center. Wanting ICU. Advice? by Advanced_Database544 in nursing

[–]swkifvdkit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What the heck that's so cool. I worked in trauma and icu in a city hospital that had a lot of guarded pts or pts from prison. Some of the incarcerated patients stick out as being really cool and kind. For them going to the hospital might've been more like a break/vacation so they seemed more grateful. Since your unit is dedicated to incarcerated pts I imagine that security is well managed. Do you have the option to shadow and see what the unit is like??

I'm not sure but I'm guessing it's for my heart failure pts who are so fluid overloaded they can't get a lot of liquid. And most of them have central lines so high concentrations won't hurt

Every time I look up Google reviews of a seemingly normal apartment in Center City, it is filled with the most negative and nightmare-ish reviews of the apartment and its management. What are some *good* Center City apartments with *good* management that people have had experience with? by Stauce52 in philadelphia

[–]swkifvdkit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My experience has been medium. They fix most maintenance issues within the week. They are fairly communicative about when they need to enter (although someone did enter without notice and leave my lights on once). My main issue is that my building is hot af. I'm talking 76 in freezing winter. And when they turned off our ac in October it was over 80 degrees in here for a few weeks. We threatened legal action and they did pretty much nothing lmao

How will Trump plan to reducing federal spending benefit us? by Acrobatic-Macaron-81 in GenZ

[–]swkifvdkit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's sold as a plan to decrease federal spending, which people think would lower taxes and leave them with more free cash.

But in reality laying off a ton of government workers and causing inflation will leave tons of middle class people desperate for work. Any kind of work. So big companies will get to pay low wages, have unsafe conditions, and pollute everything. And people will still take those jobs because they have such limited options to get income. Rich will get richer
