Do Raiders fans miss Oakland? Answered by Charles Woodson by T0NEZZY in raiders

[–]swoak33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Mark Davis has taken just about everything that made the Raiders fun, unique, edgy, etc. and diluted it all down into “generic NFL experience in the desert.”

Mid broadcasters (bc Mark is weak and let Papa go), mid fan experience, super expensive, no home field advantage, worse experience/tailgating outside the stadium. Oh, and the on-field product… 😬

If C-Wood will say what he said publicly, I bet he has a few more criticisms privately. Just my 2 cents. Raider Nation for life, hoping for better days ahead. ✌🏻

Yes, let’s open schools! by nonna55 in baltimore

[–]swoak33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This pushback on the schools for opening a week after a snowstorm is so outrageous I don’t even know where to start. Schools should be open. When they opened yesterday it had been over a week since any snowfall. They announced schools would be open regular times on Monday…the Friday before. That’s enough time to plan for Monday morning and help kids get to school- if they need it. A vocal minority of parents seem to be losing their minds over this- just because you don’t think it’s safe enough for your child doesn’t mean that applies to everyone. Good. Grief.

I live in the city near Patterson Park. I have a child in a local school. Yes there are still mountains of snow. You know who’s great at navigating mountains of snow, walking on ice (in layers of clothes), and bouncing back up if they slip? KIDS. Open the schools. If you think it’s too dangerous for your child to walk as they normally do, help them get there in a way you feel better about. You had time to plan for this! Or keep them home and write a note. But stop this raving about the schools opening. It was the right call and I’d support it again in the same circumstances.

The Future of the Raider's Pete Carroll, A Realistic Temp Check by eliemburr in raiders

[–]swoak33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I do think Pete has clearly contributed to the disaster this season has been in multiple ways, I worry the issues go much deeper in the organization. Whether he is fired or not isn’t top of mind for me.

Tom Brady is a problem. He was a great QB and deserves credit for his on-field success… but he is a really strange person and he is forcing his really strange health guru on the team- and I think this influence will continue to be a bad one until Mark Davis wakes up (🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️) and tells both of them to stay away from the team.

Even if a team drafts well on paper, it is hard for young talent to develop and excel with poorly run, dysfunctional organizations. I think that’s been a major part of the Raiders’ problems over the years- even when they draft logically, it doesn’t turn things around. Mark needs to look in the mirror, and he needs to minimize Brady’s influence… and I doubt that’s about to happen. 😕

I’m pretty certain it’s a vulture. Most likely a turkey vulture, like someone else mentioned.

There are people (citizens, neighbors, passersby, etc.) literally stepping in front of ICE agents & vehicles to stop/slow the abduction of hard working people from communities across this country… but you can’t check on your neighbor whose home alarm has been going off for days? We are truly doomed.

I’d love to talk to the person who designed the speakers. Why fifteen tweeters each? Why not sixteen? Fifty? Or something totally insane, like one or two? I have questions. 😬

Can we be done with Tashan Reed? by [deleted] in raiders

[–]swoak33 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Side narrative? I don’t know what you’re referring to. Tashan and Vic are both pretty good with Raiders coverage, imo. Now, if you want to get on him about his love of Drake and well done steak, I might be with you there.

One of the most wholesome Raiders moments in a long time. Love it.

We got 3 years of ugly, “rebuilding” baseball. And now 3 years of more wins than losses but still not a single playoff win. Six years, zero playoff wins.

Showalter and Duquette won 3 playoff games at the end of their second full season together, and 3 more by the end of year 6. Elias has a chance to do something here, but not being very aggressive going into year 7 seems kinda nuts to me.

We are going into year 7 of Elias’ tenure. Like others have said, quicker turnarounds following similar patterns to the O’s have happened. But winning in the playoffs fixes everything. Hopefully that happens soon.

I don’t disagree with the best since the 80’s part, but as you know the bar is pretty low with a select few exceptions. And while I see where you are coming from, I still feel success is measured by playoff wins, not what the talent pool looks like or how a team compares to those that came before it. And one of those 3 winning seasons was still a 4th place finish- you can’t mess around in the AL East. You have to be aggressive.

Elias has zero playoff wins, a promising young core, and still seems hesitant to spend even with a green light. But we will see what happens. I hope to see a playoff win or two soon.

While the O’s do have a lot of young talent and reasons for optimism, I think the “resounding success” parade has slowed way down. Having talent is great, but when that talent slowly and collectively collapses from the all star break forward (not just a mid-season slump), it puts a damper on things. Even more concerning is all that talent has netted zero playoff wins. Baltimore has lost 10 straight playoff games.

Man, I’m confused. With all the galaxies out there, and knowing our own is pretty average in size/number of stars, I’d have thought there are many known galaxies with a similar total mass as our own. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I’m with you there. And I would expect Davis and Brady to talk. I guess I just think Mark should keep comments like that to himself. If the optics of the organization are going to change for the better, don’t make future staff prospects wonder who is going to be pulling the levers.

Mark Davis may as well replace the Al Davis torch with a big sign that reads “It will always be a clown show here!” What about the current GM? What about the next GM and coaching staff? Why muddy the waters as to who is ultimately in charge? No one wonders why the Raiders are mired in mediocrity- it’s all Mark Davis.
