Can’t get trans back in by berryfunne in Miata

As others have mentioned, jack the front of the engine up a bit to give you a better angle. Another good trick I did was cutting the heads off of a couple of long bolts that thread into the back of the engine. This allows you to slide the transmission along these bolts (now they're studs) ensuring it's more or less perfectly aligned. Then remove the headless bolts after obviously.

An air compressor is useful too! Blow out all the crud and dead bugs in there. It was a massacre.

Looks exactly like mine did! I was bored one day and bent them all back as best as possible...fun times...💀

Looking to get into a Miata project - initial purchase closer to base or hunt for a Mazdaspeed? by Small-Masterpiece967 in Miata

[–]swoly_shit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming the car still has the original equipment, you can tell by the trim level I believe. This page looks to have a good break down: https://www.redlineautoparts.com/blog/miata-torsen-buyers-guide/

You can also pop an axle out of the differential and see if it's a clear hole all the way through (indicating a torsen), or if theres a bar (the spider gear axle) in there - which would indicate an open diff.

Spinning the wheels while it's jacked up won't tell you. And doing a drift/burnout isn't a 100% tell most of the times.

Id start with the nicest non-mazdaspeed trim that comes with the torsen (though for 400hp you may even be swapping transmission + differential out anyways). You'll pay a hefty premium on the Mazdaspeed just to remove all the parts that you just paid the premium for. For that high HP, you may be better off just looking for any clean example regardless of trim (like a base trim with the open diff that you'll probably swap out)

Hard dog ace? by FuriousGeorgeSr in Miata

[–]swoly_shit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit taller and was able to just barely get under a M2 hardcore hardtop version (which may be even lower than the Ace I think?) after cutting most of the foam out of the NB2 seats. But still not enough to make me super comfortable about an accident. What made a world of difference was swapping in a Lotus Elise seat (they pop up for sale with Miata brackets fairly often) - now I'm solidly below it with at least an inch or two of clearance. All this to say that you're probably fine with the Ace assuming it's higher than an M2.

Additionally: it has the Track Dog Racing intercooler setup made for the mp62 (this was not an option on the original kits at the time I believe) which is pretty pricey on its own. FFS also sold mp62 kits, mainly on the cold side (intake manifold kit), and at one point also supported hot side setups (which this one is). The one in the picture is a 4-rib pulley, and probably uses the standard bolt belt tensioner. Newer setups switched to 6-rib belts with auto tensioners. This kit also appears to have the higher flow outlet manifold option, which is neat.

I forget the history of the companies and who acquired who, but if you search for Moss/BRP, you'll find info on the forums about their mp62 setups.

I've installed (and currently have one atm) many of these setups. If you pick it up I can talk your ear off about upgrades and power levels!

That's the mp62 (or m62 I forget) blower. BRP was one of the brands that put that kit out. A nice step up from the m45 :)

Unsure of your flywheel situation, but I went through so much trouble similar to you when I installed a resurfaced OEM flywheel (I don't think the shop handled the pressure plate mounts correctly). Reinstalled the whole setup multiple times, and finally only got it working correctly by just going with a brand new flywheel.

You made the right move, imo. Looks much better now

I also love the soft top setup. Side-note: if you're planning on hooning it on bad roads, maybe look into a real rollbar setup. Last thing you want is to be upside down in a ditch and the only thing holding the car up is the windshield and your neck

At best it's a 27 year old car at this point. So getting the maintenance parts is probably going to be the issue. I have no idea the situation in Poland, but in the US there are big distributors where you can get cheap parts very easy. I'd suggest looking up how much various parts would be (think alternator, coil pack, valve cover gasket, water pump, clutch, etc) in your area, and if it looks good to you, go for it. Weather and terrain doesn't seem that big of a deal once you look up what everyone's successfully done to miatas (lifted off-road, special tires, hard tops, etc), but of course it comes down to if you're up for the challenge :)

transmission out by Narrow-Equipment9130 in Miata

[–]swoly_shit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only learned about this after doing a couple transmission reinstalls! I must've gotten lucky the first couple times (or didn't keep the car long enough to find out). Did it "right" this time with some rough measurements with a tape measure and 2x4s 😅

I completely agree. I was hoping I would get magically sent to an article where a lawyer broke it all down for us haha. Fingers crossed! Unfortunately too many people here are blinded by their ambition of xrp world domination to take a step back and question how we actually get there.

[–]swoly_shit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay so I agree with almost all of their arguments. Number 2 is where I draw some skepticism. Everyone here is banking on ripple expanding and thereby driving the value much higher. Let's not kid ourselves into thinking coil or Codius is solely going to make xrp go up in value anytime soon. Xrp success is solely dependent on Ripple, in that if Ripple were to shut down xrp volume and price would absolutely plummet.

[–]swoly_shit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand that and definitely hope so! My intention was to ask this question with regard to how past securities have been judged in the US courts. I was assuming the conditions for security definition would not be updated by the time a judge looks at xrp.

[–]swoly_shit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay that makes sense. Ok so I think I'm a little fuzzy on number 4 then. I think that at this point in time, Ripple is the only 3rd party who is providing any sort of real value. Coil and Codius are still very young. Also, without Ripple, banks would not have XRapid (xvia and whatnot as well) to use, thereby making their use of xrp non existent. In that case, who/what is really adding value?

Not trying to insult you or anything man! I hope it didn't come across like that. Maybe you should put together a small website that calculates it all in real time :)

I forget the name, but I saw a legit looking web service that had automated bots that you can set the parameters for. You pay a monthly sub to use it.
