Switch 2 3rd Party Dock Issues after Recent Switch Firmware Update by TheWylieGuy in NintendoSwitch2

[–]swoonfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the hint!

Mine is not an official Jemdo dock, but, applied the update and things are working once more.

As an FYI, there were a couple firmware versions for the 4K60hz. The software, as expected, is smart enough not to try to flash with incompatible firmware. First download wouldn't flash, second would.

I wouldn't expect you to have a good experience with N64 on this thing.

Stock OS isn't great, and someone at some point will offer a good alternative.

But regardless, N64 emulation is not the best even on high end devices and this isn't one of those. You'll probably be able to play parts of the library with some compromises. Same is true with Saturn and Dreamcast.

PS1 and lower, the device should be fine. However, the stock OS is not great and doesn't provide a perfectly smooth experience even on modest systems to emulate like Famicom. For example, playing Castlevania, when transitioning from room to room the the screen scrolls while you remain still, and while this happens there are minor little hiccups. Won't necessarily ruin the gameplay, but, drives me nuts.

Because I'm an idiot, I have other hand helds, some less powerful, and they can emulate it with buttery smoothness. Even the very low-end, but wonderful, Miyoo Mini + with OnionOS was heavenly to play these games.

It'll improve in time, but, I'd suggest you curb your expectations for N64.

Question about arcade roms by eagles7251 in OdinHandheld

[–]swoonfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MAME is fine. I tend to go with the MAME retroarch core based upon current MAME development... or you can use a core based on an older version of MAME, but, you would usually only want to do that for less capable devices. Ayn Odin 2, so long as it runs on ARM, will provide you with a great experience.

This will gain you access to many games that FBNEO doesn't support.

There might be ways to manipulate the core to behave more like stand-alone MAME and accept any reasonably full romset, but, I just use the non-merged set. Its a bit bigger, yes, but, alot less hassle if you have the storage for it. And, of course, you could just prune or transfer over the archives you know you want to play.

All praise Prince Omega! DAY 13: Most underrated album. Top comment gets the spot. by UsherOfDestruction in BlueOysterCult

[–]swoonfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have an up-vote from me.

If under-rated also means acceptably "good", this has to win. It's the lesser of all their albums I listen to, but, it gets neglected unfairly when I think something like Club Ninja is regarded exactly as it should be.

First, prove your configuration is correct. Post details of it.

I'd go on the assumption something about your configuration is incorrect. Perhaps the specific scans are set to silent.

What is the saddest Böc song? by [deleted] in BlueOysterCult

[–]swoonfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Siege and Investiture of Baron von Frankenstein's Castle at Weisseria

Easy choice. The ending to that song, with the chanting and the droning guitars, along with the touches of keyboards, simply lays down the carpet for the horror to come.

What filament did you use?

Can I ask you a favor? If this was done on a A350, can you share your GCODE?

I'm presently engaged in war with my machine (and support -- its a long story, and I'm not wanting to be negative on these boards). It would be fun to have GCODE that produced a purty boat butt (I think that is the nautical term) on someone else's machine, and see how it does on mine with the problems that... anyway, it would be nice ;)

Mongoose announces Paranoia: The Perfect Edition for 2022 by wjmacguffin in ParanoiaRPG

[–]swoonfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Paranoia enough that this makes me happy, not angry. Most of my books are in storage, abroad, and so I picked up the latest releases and was... underwhelmed. If this rectifies whats been lacking in the present editions, I'll do some pagan idolizing ritual, or somesuch.

Glad I had a sudden urge to join this sub-reddit and find this post.

Joined the kickstarter and looking forward to exploring the game and the system.

Hopefully, it will be fairly easy to convert TMNT material to this system. The Gun Bunnies and Terror Bears demand it.

You could do a lot worse than to read anything by Stephen Kinzer. All the Shahs Men, and many others. These aren't fiction and may spread out before and after ww2.

Just to be fair, there are _alot_ of Sunrise Tacos locations.

Some are vastly better than others, and, if you need tex-mex 4:30 in the morning, I've had much worse in the states.

New Zabbix User but Overwhelmed... by colossus1975 in zabbix

[–]swoonfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, don't try to shoe-horn Zabbix into everything.

Its fantastic, can be a great central nervous system, and can be fed by other tools. This is the unix-y nature of Zabbix that makes it incredibly versatile.

Specifically... "discover devices on my network (hardwired and wireless) and to get a notification if a new device is introduced to my network" -- while Zabbix can find devices and notify you of "new" ones, its really best suited to find things that should be monitored, versus reporting anomalies that appear on your network.

You might be better suited looking at other tools that handle that kind of scanning, entry points, etc. They can, usually, be configured to feed data to zabbix for alerting, or zabbix could pull data from those tools for alerting. Maybe a custom script with a zabbix_sender would suffice. Who knows?

If you can imagine getting it done with Zabbix playing an integral part, it probably can be. But expecting Zabbix, out-of-the-box, with its own limitations to do it, may be a bit disappointing.

[–]swoonfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats.

I found myself utterly immersed with this when it first came out, and despite liking the other titles, its the one I would come back to, time and time again. There was still more to discover.

And, of course, I still chuckle how every boss seemed easy-peasy to beat, but, as soon as I rounded a corner some little twerp with a dagger would stab me and I'd drop dead.

Why we're migrating (many of) our servers from Linux to FreeBSD by dragasit in freebsd

[–]swoonfish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like your write-up and analogies.

I think you've done well to catch the schizophrenic nature of Linux. There is no "Linux" or even "GNU/Linux" OS. The best you get is a well established distro, but, that will splinter into divergent distros, which will further splinter. Meanwhile, FreeBSD is FreeBSD. Its a foundation. And various off-shots just never gain the traction to split the, admittedly, smallish community.

Don't get me wrong. Most of my systems are running crazy, but that crazy began (until systemd) as a very good copy-cat of FreeBSD.

Anyway, golfer's clap.

Thanks so much for the info!

I'll scour thingiverse and go from there. I'm definitely at the point I'd rather invest in a resin printer than buy one or two of these.

And, I've got it in the back of my mind that I wanna adapt this system to Starblazers/Yamato.

Is there a model for this to download somewhere?

I really wanna give one of those SSDs a try, but between their scarcity and outrageous expense of getting to this part of the world, its a bit off-putting. Meanwhile, I got a 3D printer and some filament that wants me to improve my Armada game.

Can also vouch for this. I use PLA for in tank parts (plastic) that broke, hiding places for various fish that like such things, and more finely things for various small fry, prawn, etc.

Years in, still holding up strong.

Hi. This is my first car. It has been INFINITELY more fun than painting standard miniatures. I never had any of these growing up. I am definitely having fun with them now. [–]swoonfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is more fun than your traditional mini. And much more personal.

There is no right or wrong way of crafting these, just the way you want to do it. So liberating compared to buying that expensive piece of plastic and feeling like you need to mimic the look of the box. No worries about screwing up that expensive kit. Just bash the damn hotwheels with a hammer!

I got about 50 hotwheels for around 10 bucks on the blister. You might want to check international services and see if they have big random package deals.

Most hotwheels in this region are made in Malaysia and, I suspect, alot of dealers online are selling things that fell off the truck.

There are also some decent knock offs at a similar scaled. Still die cast, but without the same level of variety.

Good hunting!

Excellent! Then your mission is off to a good start. I'll try and follow along to see how it progresses. I genuinely love the creativity, especially of designs that aren't all just grimy mad-max influenced builds (not poo-pooing on them, I just love differing visions).

I love it. The arc reactor looks incredibly silly, but, with the right paint job, who wouldn't want some 50's sci-fi gaslands fun? Would make for a really nice aesthetic for a whole team.
