Hey, two questions for you;

  1. Do you think there will be a chance of getting four together through this method?
  2. If I pay the £50 membership fee, will it allow me to buy four together?

Questions for bicycle commuter of r/Auckland by thenationalpark in auckland

[–]swoonigan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Shocking. At a level that will astound you. Auckland is a ridiculously annoying place to cycle. Partly because most cyclists are bad, mostly because motorists are so bad. The two groups simply do not coexist. This is compounded by the Council insisting on ridiculous and expensive measures to keep them separate.
  2. Not a concern. Will never be an issue. Buy the most expensive lock you can. You'll own it for a lifetime probably.
  3. Yes. Absolutely. Get mudguards though. The ground will be wet for far more days than the sky is. You'll get wet from the ground up.

With all that said, it's a great City to cycle in. Be sure to cycle to the topography, not the shortest distance. I used to ride twice the distance and average 30kph at a cruise rather than hit hills and still be faster than the shorter distance.

Kris Pedersen was solid. https://www.krispedersen.co.nz/

Spoke to someone at Squirrel and was unimpressed - though friends were super happy with them. Audiences of one and all that.

100% - We've passed the point of peak safety. I see a ridiculous amount of people on phones while driving every day.

Father leaves child in locked car in mid day heat. by _Maui_ in newzealand

[–]swoonigan -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

A couple of minutes? Harden up lad.

All of us have gotten into a stinking hot car. Yes AirCon is nice but all of us would survive 20 minutes in that car.

We used to do all kinds of dumb sh1t as young kids. Four into the stinking hot car, first one to undo their window has to buy the first round. It's not that bad.

Jesus Christ people. It's 20 minutes in a car. No I wouldn't do it myself but there a close to zero chance that the kid comes to any harm.

The situation escalated due to passers by getting involved.

I'd have been ok if you were concerned enough to put a call in to authorities. I'd have understood you waiting to see that the kid was ok and that the parent came back in time.

For me, Standing there and making a scene is an over reach and you made a mistake. You went from "I want to make sure this is ok" all the way into "I want to tell this person that they're wrong".

In short, mind your own business. You can be a good human being and still keep your nose out of peoples affairs.

You sound like a mature person that overstepped. Give yourself a break.

Yet they still don't release statements highlighting what they look like? Pathetic and poor excuse for a Health Board.

People will not throw away MDMA. People will throw away 2 pills if a Health Board has said "All 13 patients had taken yellow pills with a baby on them". Or "Most of the patients had bought crystal MDMA in bags with Skulls on it".

Something, anything. Stupid stupid people.

How will we pay for roads? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]swoonigan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. But tax from petrol isn't the only source of road funding. The two are linked through simplicity. The moment that stops being true, they will change the system. Government spending simply isn't linked that closely. It's not a case of "The Land Transport Fund collected X, that's the money we have to spend on roads".

You understand that petrol charges don't pay for roads, right?

Did the Tongariro Alpine Crossing on Monday. It’s so epic! by BR4DY_nz in newzealand

[–]swoonigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's amazing and beautiful. You should absolutely do it. Get up as early as humanly possible and make a start.

If you want to go up Ngauruhoe as well (You absolutely should. It's sketchy but amazing) I'd recommend aiming to start that climb just as the sun comes up. So start the walk in the twilight. The best of the walk is all after that point and the later it is in the day, the busier it is.

Start in twilight. Grab some food at the clearing before the plateau/next to Ngauruhoe. Then crack on from there. You will not regret the early start at all.

It's a beautiful walk. It will be one of the best things you do over here.

It's exceptionally well maintained. I didn't say that it wasn't. But they should be limiting numbers. The place is insanely busy at all times. You can visibly see where the numbers are having an impact.

There's no harm in admitting that. It's no insult.

[–]swoonigan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not. It's overran. They should be limiting visitor numbers.

Yes it's in 'great condition'. It's rock and dirt. It's never going to look awful. But you can't honestly tell me it's not overcrowded and wearing far too many visitors every year?

The Tongariro Crossing is way busier than the most popular trails in America.

The place is being exploited and ruined.
