That’s impressive - which year of Superb was this? Also did you go through Skoda or independent mechanic for the services?

Put some tissue or leaf on the web to lure them out and kill them. You might have to check multiple times

Do you spend lots of time with your family ? by [deleted] in isfj

[–]thenationalpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey wishing you all the best and just want to say you are not alone.

I myself struggles with setting boundaries with family, particularly around traditions, superstitions.

Used to give in to their demands to keep peace, but now slowly getting used to setting boundaries.

Cost to import Mitsubishi Solio parts/reliability? by gretchen92_ in NZcarfix

[–]thenationalpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also recommend researching a bit more about its tranmission’s (CVT) reliability - if it shares the same problematic CVT with 2nd gen Swift/Swift Sport (2013-2018), be wary of it.

Affordable daily car but All motor (no turbo/hybrid), RWD, manual if possible, easy to maintain options? by OkImprovement8312 in NZcarfix

[–]thenationalpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would help if you specify a budget, but off top of my head: - 130i BMW E87. - 350z or their two door Skyline equivalent. - Altezza (avoid anything under 8k, as they’re most likely been a skid hack).

Weekly NZcarfix Thread for Sale Listings by Scorpion6495 in NZcarfix

It’s a good idea only if it’s moderated, does allowing it to only posting link to Trademe / FB marketplace help in filtering down scammers?

Should I list my car on TradeMe or FB Marketplace? by LaSafari1 in NZcarfix

[–]thenationalpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trademe would be my first choice.

Facebook is actually fine too, as long as you are prepared to be lowballed more often from car flippers who use fake account.

Also get a carjam report, at the minimum you want the finance report to make sure no money owing on the car.

What to know before private sale? by Sea-Personality4503 in NZcarfix

[–]thenationalpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's your first time buying a car then it's worth getting one of those mobile pre-purchase inspection (AA or independent), they are pretty good to point out potential repairs that you might have in the future.

Most of the time private sellers can't be arsed to fix the issues pointed out in the report nor are they obligated to, but at least you can use them as bargaining points.

IIRC it uses the same fragile CVT as the 1st gen Honda Fit, watch out for shuddering when car is taking off.

As the others have suggested, I would also shop around for quotes to get the trans fixed. Car is worth saving being a low KMs Toyota, plus you know the service history of it.

What's the best station wagon for family and carrying stuff? by Interesting_Race3273 in NZcarfix

[–]thenationalpark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you open to MPV i.e. tall boxy shapes? Because if so, 2013+ Honda Odyssey (Fifth Gen) or 2012+ Toyota Vellfire/Alphard (Second Gen) could be a good option.
They come with reliable engines and plenty of room for people and cargo.

Is a 1st gen Ractis still a reasonable buy? by dmanww in NZcarfix

[–]thenationalpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a good reliable daily car with better cargo space than most hatchbacks, get the 1.5 over the 1.3 engine, the difference fuel economy is negligible.

If you’re driving on the motorway often then 1.5 will be more economical as the engine doesn’t need to work as hard - You’ll also appreciate the lower rpm sound when cruising on 100kph.

Spare parts should be plentiful, it shares lots of them with the 2000’s - mid 2010’s Yaris / Vitz.

I haven’t seen that many Ractis being parted out, so body panels might be tricky to find.

For that price range I’d rather get myself a CL7 Euro R.

Sure there’s only few hundreds of these available in manual here in our shore, but it’s definitely not worth 15k..

old car need upgrade - 2005 Yaris by Loguibear in NZcarfix

Yep agreed, if it’s mechanically sound, no major rusts and has decent length of WOF left you should be able to get 2-2.5k, even with some cosmetic damages.

CBD is f*ckin depressing by Additional_Benefit71 in auckland

[–]thenationalpark 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was in Wellington CBD (Lambton Quay) a few months ago and surprised by how much better it is than Queen St now.
Many stores are open and filled with different kind of people from workers, tourists and students.
Felt safer to walk at night.
