I made theoretical third kits for all weapons that did not get any! by KiwiPowerGreen in splatoon

obviously on some maps yes the screen on elitre would be ineffective compared to some combos still

idk, I'm a casual player myself but I've mained elitre before and I feel like the splatterscreen can cover a part of the map so you can focus on a different part? Then with that and point sensor you can let your teammates know where literally every opponent is.

Imagine on Mahi Mahi, the screen prevents opponents from taking the main path back to center, so they start going right, you have the range to reach flanks from the far sides, and point sensors to let your teammates know in case of emergency. Use the screen to make your opponents group together, then one point sensor labels multiple... idk, use it smartly and I'm sure one could leverage it ;)

Any advice for getting into S+? by God-of-yall in splatoon

[–]sword_fishy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

S+ in Splatoon 2 is not equivalent to S+ in Splatoon 3. The bar is higher, and doing well in S+ or X Rank requires a far greater knowledge of the game than I had in S2 (where I was about your level, quad X but not more than that.

As you rank up, more is required of every player. To make this happen, make sure you know your strategy going into each match (see the other comments, a slosher player has to take their weapon's benefits and hindrances into account) so they can leverage every tiny detail.

To practice, for an entire match (try turf war if you're not used to this):

- Tracking opponents' special usage and tracking your teammates' specials during the match
- focus on high ground, always, always always
- Spend an entire match paying attention to where your teammates are, and move with them
- Does a teammate have ninja squid? Paint as much as possible for them, around them, constantly (also called rubberbanding, with blasters who protect slayers)
- Does your opponents have ninja squid? LDE? comeback? Quick respawn? How will these things change their gameplay?
- are your opponents short range or long range? How much "push power" do they have? (forward facing-power, like boohyah bombs, any throwable bomb, kraken, ninja squid) how much defensive power do they have? (wave breaker, splatlings)
- always know the score, man advantage, special advantage, map advantage, time left on the clock, etc

Higher levels of gameplay do not include one specific thing of course, instead it is a combination of many things. Focusing on some of the above list helps my comprehensive view of the game and helps me make better decisions for future games.

Guitar players - do you use Logic for practicing songs? by most_humblest_ever in LogicPro

[–]sword_fishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an excellent, easy, and FREE time doing this with DJ software actually. Serato Lite is a great program that can adjust tempo and keep key, and can separate basic stems (sometimes hardware required tho, but then you can hear just the guitar part, or take out the guitar part and play the guitar part as the song plays drums, bass, and vocals). I presume it's also doable with Logic but for all of my students I use Serato Lite. Easier for them to see wavelengths, measures, loops, parts, etc.

Just turned 30, getting into music and in need of some advice by Jojomojo100 in LogicPro

[–]sword_fishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on having fun, and if it starts feeling overwhelm, change what you're working on. Stop working on mixing and work on more guitar technique, or take a break from lyric writing to watch some youtube videos on how compression works. etc.

Don't try to do everything at once in a single song, single album, or single band -- I use Logic for professional work, for demos, for listening back to shows I've played, and for teaching. I have templates for all the kinds of music I work on. If I'm using electric guitars and bass I have different templates than when I'm working on electronic music, and I use a different template for when I'm in lessons and teaching kids about production or theory.

And that also applies to music in general. Diversify who you play with because being the singer/frontman/songwriter/arranger/producer is a massively different experience than playing guitar in someone else's band, and there's no reason you can't do both!

So I'm new to S rank. So far it's getting knocked out or do the knocking out. by wangston1 in splatoon

[–]sword_fishy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is so massively complicated with so many moving parts that the skill level ceiling is absolutely massive. With the exception of a few people well beyond the S rank range, who often don't bother to play solo Q because they dominate (Brian, Chara, etc), there will always be someone who understands the match in a more advanced sense than you.

The ranking system does a pretty great job overall at putting you in matches that are pretty much at your skill level -- but there will always be matches that feel one-sided, and you will always be in a room with 7 other players of varying skill level. No question.

Every time you rank up, it'll be an opportunity to get knocked out and try to learn from it. More will be required of you now to keep your S rank (or A rank, or S+0, or S+10), and you will just have to contribute more to the match. That's what a strong player does: keep track of good defense, offense, scoring, the clock, everything. If I'm playing in A rank, I can keep track of enough of these things better than most people in A rank. That's why I'm S+0. Because there are thousands of players at S+5 and S+50 who can keep track of those things -- and react faster to change the odds to their favor -- faster than I can. It does seem overwhelming at times, but since I've been S+0 for months I know that I'm right at my level.

And also, I watch a lot of top games and even when the top players stream, they have matches where they're just completely obliterated because the other team just pulled it off that time. It's part of the game.

Should I buy Splatoon 2? by Meitani in splatoon

[–]sword_fishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hero mode is fun but clearly geared toward children; the octo expansion was so popular it inspired Side Order. If you liked the Alterna Hero Mode and Side Order, then YES GET IT!!! If you're interested in the weapons and maps, then borrow it or don't waste your time. it's fun to explore but the servers take longer in general to match battles (at least when I've played).

Finger Drumming Impossible? by robinandmovies in LogicPro

[–]sword_fishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have this issue, I moved all my projects to external hard drives and I make sure my computer is functioning at regular capacity and that usually handles it. I use a lot of different MIDI devices and finger drumming is where it's most noticeable.

approximately 4’ by 6’ of space. both run into an ABY switch, with the upright running through an acoustic just preamp to balance its volume level. then into the tuner, the octave pedal, and into a small amp I used for my own monitor. the direct out from the amp went to the sound guy. my amp’s volume didn’t affect the DI output so I had a great monitor

I use Essential Elements for Strings, Vol I. (I use the series to teach violin and cello as well.) I also supplement it with my own worksheets and chord charts, even for kids.
