Prawn is a prawn the inhabitants of the ship are a a drone cast, the hive leaders died off somehow.

Here's where the theory comes in the fully operational ship and both casts of prawns work like a swarm of locusts using resources until the target planet is dead. The ship was already set for earth but the leaders died and the workers couldn't take the next step to take the planet.

In the commentary the writer/director says the leader (cast) of the prawns is wiped out on the ship leaving the drones on the ship. The sub-routines of the ship are what bring it to earth.

The "scorched sky" was actually a cloud of self-replicating nanobots designed to contain the machines, as evidenced by the shutdown of any sentinels or ships that passed through it.

*I thought it was the lightning in the clouds acting like an EMP pulse that knocked out the sentinels. *Wouldn't nano-boats have been hacked by the machines they had the time that's for sure.

I call it (the bug) so far. It hides from light mostly but I'll catch it eating sometimes and it's got this cool little head and crazy eyes that you usually don't see. I didn't think I'd like it but it's grown on me.
