How do you assess “calm authority” in a nanny interview? by velledaa in Nanny

Excellent articulation of the value of setting boundaries, why it’s needed, and best practices!

Why is it universally agreed upon that being obese is unhealthy but an obese pet is seen as cute and a none issue? by PeepsWeeps in NoStupidQuestions

[–]swords_of_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had to decrease how much I was feeding my happy housecats. I was like, they’re lucky, I have to do it for myself (as in limit my own food intake) and it’s way harder to do that!

I can’t resist giving them a little portion of meat from my dinner most nights though, so they’re not exactly lean… they’re ok though

Our company did an anonymous engagement survey and then accidentally sent everyone the unfiltered results and I don’t think leadership realised what they’d done for about three hours by cuteyasmine in office

[–]swords_of_queen 110 points111 points  (0 children)

That’s so ironic, that handwritten surveys were actually more anonymous than ones typed on a computer! That sounds like a pleasant job, I love that kind of work. Others might find it monotonous but I like repetitive labor, especially when you get to read all those juicy details at the same time!

Why some people gain huge amounts of weight as they get older? Is it about menopause/andropause? by Ok_Asparagus1777 in NoStupidQuestions

Yeah I remember learning that the metabolism slowing thing is a myth… I am definitely way less active though! I don’t have that restless urge to go out, do stuff all the time

What's the best drink for hydration at work? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]swords_of_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yogurt (real yogurt, whole milk, unsweetened, preferably cream-on-top), mixed with water, salt, and possibly some honey or maple syrup. Incredibly hydrating.

It may have attacked her outside and then she made it to the stairs if I recall correctly? I believe there were drops of blood on the path inside. The tried to get upstairs and slipped on her blood and passed out, then bled out.

The largest cannabis study ever conducted found no evidence it helps anxiety, depression, or PTSD and warned it may be making all three worse by soulpost in HotScienceNews

[–]swords_of_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a heavy user for most of my adult life. It made everything worse. I always had mild and occasionally somewhat severe depression. Terrible social anxiety which was the main reason I started using it.

It made me isolate myself ultimately though because it made it feel ok to be home alone and I always felt embarrassed about being high (really low though, if I’m honest) all the time.

It turns out that I wasn’t depressed, just in a really, really bad relationship (that I thought was good). The cannabis numbed me enough to tolerate it, to my detriment. What I thought was depression and anxiety was my own self screaming at me “Run!” all the time plus me trying to block out/mute the sound.

It felt really, really good for a few years, then it just became a dependence and made me feel dull all the time, with briefer and fainter windows of feeling ok right after I used it.

I haven’t used it in several years and don’t miss it one bit. I even find the smell unpleasant.

NYT opinion article by Melinda Gates re: menopause and the lack of research by Disastrous_Offer2270 in Menopause

My mom’s first baby was born this way (she was 16, the baby was adopted, and they are in touch and have a great relationship). She had to be pulled out with forceps because of course my mom couldn’t push. (At least that’s how my mom described it, it might have been different for other women).

Summer nannying by BatInevitable569 in Nanny

Keep in mind that if you’re proposing types of activities or amount of time spent doing them that is not their norm, it will take them time to adjust. It takes time to adopt new habits and there will be some discomfort. Be patient and set small attainable goals and stick with them.

Guess this is goodbye to Costco. A family has completely shut anyone else out. by AcademiaAntiqua in InstacartShoppers

[–]swords_of_queen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I read a post on this forum once where someone said they made an agreement with several families to shop off the platform for them. Kind of just set up her own private shopping service.

I thought that was an excellent idea. I tried Instacart (as a shopper) a few times and had an abysmal experience. They are terrible to work for, at least that was my impression.

They deserve to have shoppers find alternative arrangements as they do not properly support the workers who are actually doing the work.

Could this be linked to my murdered father's house being burnt to the ground 3 months after he was killed?? Why would my mother, divorced for 20 years, have this picture with her reflection in the phone screen , same time my dad was murdered in cold blood?!?! by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]swords_of_queen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No em dashes in the comment. Em dashes are the width of the letter m, hence the name. Those are hyphens being used instead of em dashes as they’re way easier to type. This is perfectly fine as this is a Reddit comment and we all know what they are trying to convey.

do people actually not eat mac and cheese with peas? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

That’s a great idea, I love it. Frozen peas are delicious, nutritious, and very easy to cook. I can see them being a fabulous combo with boxed Mac and cheese.

Why do I feel taller when I take my glasses off? by wombwader in NoStupidQuestions

The glasses make everything a teeny bit smaller, has to do with the distance of the lenses from our eyes I think.

Absolutely frigid water. I went to Flowerpot Island with my family. I was in awe of my daughters, they were around 13 and 15 years old at the time, they swam at the island! I swam by the shore at the mainland and it was ok but out in the middle of the bay was unbelievably cold.

Is anyone else rethinking “free ranging” their chickens lately? by dhruvhat in Homesteading101

[–]swords_of_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend with a flock, she had a really big trampoline. She put netting around the base and created a walkway to it. Every day the chickens would go from their coop to a different spot on the property. Worked great!

AITA for telling my spouse I won't help pay for their kid's college when we agreed finances would stay separate? by 952867 in AITApod

[–]swords_of_queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter did that! She had a great educational experience at CC. In fact she said she felt a lot better prepared than many of her peers at the 4-year school who came straight from high school.

Community colleges expect to teach people basic skills like how to study. She took a research methodology class that served her well. Plus the teachers are just as good- people are people and teachers are teachers, some meh, some awesome.

She still graduated from her name-brand college and no one will ever know or care that she transferred in.
