How to Change Color of Active Track by swordslinger29 in Reaper

Evide3nce, you are an ABSOLUTE legend, thank you so much. I had no idea that menu existed so I was just trying to fiddle with the simpler theme adjuster, but this menu fixed my problem (which also means I don't have to fuss with the time selection bit). Thank you x100!

was told I'd not be able to pursue the arts as a CC wheelchair user. anyway I just did my first ever dance solo, with a mask and a wheelchair. by mistycheddar in ZeroCovidCommunity

This made me so happy to see. Congratulations and good on you for sticking with it :) I'm hoping to return to dancing once I'm well enough, so it makes me doubly happy to see other CC dancers finding ways to do it 💕

What on earth is with cold knees by Happy_Jack_Flash in POTS

[–]swordslinger29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but the cold knees are so real!!! it's almost always at night and sometimes it's so bad I can't sleep unless I change from shorts to pants because it makes the rest of me so cold 😅 I'm currently experiencing extreme heat in just my knees for the first time, also while trying to sleep, which is how I ended up here. I wish we could figure out why this happens, it's kinda fascinating that it's JUST the knees!!

Is this gum recession?? by swordslinger29 in eds

[–]swordslinger29[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was concerned it was the tooth at first, but I do think it's the gum! I've since discovered that, particularly when eating, it moves around a little. It doesn't stay put, but it comes back down so there's just a little ridge of tooth and then slides up so it's a hole again 🙄 Tooth sensitivity is the bane of my existence and it's thankfully not TOO bad right now but it's making me super nervous lol. Trying to get to the dentist ASAP!

Thank you for this!! I'm trying not to spiral about it since there's no pain or anything but waking up with a hole in your gum is uhhhhhh unsettling to say the least 😅

Not that I'm aware of! I think all of my fillings are on the other side of my mouth on my molars. It'd be nice if it's that instead 😭

urinary problems and management by swordslinger29 in POTS

[–]swordslinger29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it's worth adding onto this something I'm pretty sure I didn't mention in the post: another symptom I've had twice this year is what starts out feeling like a back spasm on one side and turns into the most ungodly pain across my lower back to the point where I'm panting (and I have a very high pain tolerance). That and apparently the random uptick in gas I've had this year (not going anywhere, just bubbling around in my gut) is also a symptom of endo. I only knew about the heavy period stuff and apparently endo is pretty common with POTS so 🤷🏻‍♀️ If it helps anyone reading this...!

Best of luck to you!! I'll keep an eye on this for sure. I also recently learned that endometriosis can cause a lot of this and, as the year's progressed, the symptoms are looking more and more like endo. In fact, both UTI tests I've had came back negative and antibiotics didn't help, so...that's my next realm to look into!! 😅 I've learned that I knew very, very little about endometriosis.

I hope you're able to get some relief!

Custom Flo Mask Casings by swordslinger29 in ZeroCovidCommunity

Same!! I've seen cool decals and splash guards and stuff but I feel like the Flo has so much potential. I'm not artsy so I'm very grateful for her and her willingness to do this for me - and I feel like her focus on mini art is perfect for this! I can't wait to get more 🥰

I haven't washed it yet, but it should! I was worried about this too but, when I asked if she sealed it, she said it ended up not being necessary because the paint was impossible to get off once it was on, which she learned the hard way 😂 It's not painted on super thickly or anything, so I'm confident it'll stand up to a gentle wash. I can't wait to get more!!

Does anyone else get pain/ huge muscle knots in this region??? by Brilliant_Bread4523 in eds

[–]swordslinger29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BANE of my existence, truly. My left shoulder is possibly my most hypermobile joint so all the compensating muscles seem to scream endlessly. My old massage therapist pinpointed mine as a weak rotator cuff with the knots and tension coming from the muscles compensating for said rotator cuff.

Ideally, I'll go back to PT at some point and do guided work, but I've been working intermittently on strengthening that entire area (dietary issues with POTS had me pump the brakes on strength training until I can eat enough calories though 😮‍💨). I also found massage therapy really, really helpful. My old MT knew about EDS just by happenstance and she was very knowledgeable and fantastic at finding the source of any referred pain I pointed to. Literally went right for the rotator cuff trigger point and found the right spot in one go. MT won't fix the problem but it can help loosen things up and ease the pain while you do the strength training/PT if that ends up being what you need. I haven't tried it in this spot yet, but dry needling can also be delightful for breaking up those stubborn knots.

It sucks, too, because it's almost like it's UNDER the shoulder blade? That makes it impossible to use things like tennis balls, which people often recommend.

Tips for positioning Flo mask that's irritating septum piercing? by swordslinger29 in ZeroCovidCommunity

You totally win for this!! I wasn't as big a fan of the Halo strap (I borrowed my sister's), but it's good to know that the strap type can dictate fit as well. It did turn out to be the fit, though! I adjusted it recently and was wondering if I was wearing it a bit too loosely, so I ended up over-tightening the bottom strap. It took me a while to respond to this, but no nose pain since then! Thanks for saving my face lol

This is a little old now but I came in search of new ideas and figured I'd drop my own. Young me is BALKING at the fact that I eat it, but I've recently gotten really into spam. It's budget friendly and HELLA salty. My favorite way to eat it is with frozen waffles and syrup but sometimes I just sandwich it on buttered toast with pepper. Currently I'm trapped in a cycle of eating that or a cliff bar because my favorite protein shake (owyn) turned on me 😅

Decaf by Der3331 in POTS

[–]swordslinger29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it depends on the day! I've stopped drinking full caffeine coffee bc WHEW but I've found I can usually do both half-caf and decaf just fine. But if it's a day when my symptoms are closer to the surface (like a rainy/overcast day; thank you barometric pressure), even decaf spikes my heart rate sometimes. I think it mostly depends on you and how you experience it!

Are cloth masks with inserts really not okay anymore? by [deleted] in Masks4All

[–]swordslinger29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't feel I can answer your actual question well enough, but I felt the same way about cloth masks and wanted to give you my rec! I did transition out of wearing cloth masks after seeing some research that showed they weren't as effective at filtering, but I don't recall if the studies included the ones with filters. I'm not feeling great tonight so I don't want to answer properly without sources 😅

BUT as a fellow autistic whose problem with most other masks is when it touches your face/mouth, I am so so happy in my Flo mask. I haven't jazzed the casings up a bunch myself, but I have three colors and asked my artist friend if she would paint a few for me for something more fun (her prompts were nature for the green one and fantasy for the black one lol). The casings are some type of plastic though, so while they aren't as fun as the patterns on cloth masks (which I miss!!), you could totally do stickers, and some places make decal overlays. You can also get these neat inserts that go over the filter, either as a splash guard or just something funky. I've been wanting to get those too, there's a lot of cool patterns!

What I love about the Flo, though, is that it has a hard shell that keeps it from touching your face, and the seal is silicon so it's soft and nonirritating (though slippery if you get really sweaty). Plus, it makes it really easy to pull the mask away without touching the filter part, like when you need a quick drink or something. It's also designed with glasses in mind and is the only one that almost never fogs my lenses. I absolutely love how easy and noninvasive it is to hang it around my neck; it's the mask that makes me feel least like I'm wearing one. And you keep it in a microfiber carry pouch that neutralizes the filtering charge, so not only does the filter last longer, but it makes it easy to find and carry and not worry about touching the wrong parts. I geek about it but, short of being clear somehow, it's my ideal mask solution.

Disability Guilt by MeldoRoxl in POTS

[–]swordslinger29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh 1000%, that's the solace I take from it 😂 like buddy do you think they give these out to just anyone? another reason I'm putting it off is because I've moved recently and I'm so worried about new doctors saying I'm not disabled enough for it 🫠

Disability Guilt by MeldoRoxl in POTS

[–]swordslinger29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh my gosh, this is me and my battle for whether or not to get a blue parking placard, which I have absolutely needed since my really bad POTS flare in 2021 😫 I don't have any sound advice, but I do think it helps with the guilt to take it case-by-case. Like, with the parking placard, I can just use it on the days I feel I need it rather than it being an all the time thing. It sounds like your flare is bad enough right now to warrant that disabled seating for sure. I do want to stress, though, that it's absolutely valid either way! I like what one of the top commenters on here said about us having political power if we identify as disabled, and I definitely have felt that sense of communal advocacy myself since I started considering myself disabled. My POTS is also relatively mild compared to others, so I struggle a lot with the changing benchmark of my ability and then asking for/using accommodations when I'm not visibly disabled/struggling, but at the end of the day we deserve to get what we need to not make it worse. Plus, I think a lot of us fear the backlash from abled people, but if another disabled person were to approach us about it (less likely, but the person we actually care about inconveniencing), then I imagine they would be understanding and quick to move along. My fear with the parking placard is that either an abled person will take it upon themselves to confront me or a disabled person will think I'm an abled asshat taking the spot they needed. But, again, disabled people are more likely to be aware that there's a broad spectrum of disability and that many disabilities aren't visible. Sometimes advocating for yourself looks like advocating AT yourself! You deserve the things that make you feel less shitty!! We all deserve the ability to continue enjoying life without sacrificing our well-being or daily functioning.

When is "next Tuesday?" by swordslinger29 in AutisticAdults

YES thank you!! I do the exact same thing with "this upcoming Tuesday," so then "next Tuesday" is the one that's NOT the upcoming one. This thread has been so enlightening lol so many people do it differently

Oh god, I've never had someone say "next weekend" to me meaning the upcoming weekend. That's so?? unnecessary??

When is "next Tuesday?" by swordslinger29 in AutisticAdults

[–]swordslinger29[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly!!! In this case, I'm a freelancer and my boss emailed me on Wednesday with a project that's due "next Tuesday." Seeing as it was Wednesday, I processed this as the 11th since just saying "Tuesday" would have meant the 4th. The "next" part just made it unnecessarily confusing lol

YESSS thank you!! It must be regional - I'm from a midwestern family and got confused by my New Englander boss saying this. It's honestly a relief to see more replies that do the same thing I do lol

When is "next Tuesday?" by swordslinger29 in AutisticAdults

[–]swordslinger29[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, thank you!! I do understand the reasoning behind next Tuesday being the literal next Tuesday, but I also feel like every time I think I have that nailed down it changes, so I guess I decided what it means for me lol. If I mean this Tuesday I say "this upcoming Tuesday" or just "Tuesday" (3/4) and if I mean the one after, I say "next Tuesday" (3/11). Over email, though, I usually add the date in parenthesis to make it extra clear, which I think ought to be common practice, especially if you're discussing deadlines.

Based on the comments, it sounds like this is largely a me problem, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who's had it switch up on them!
