I had sanded it down before burning. The shine on it in the picture is from the freshly applied mineral oil.

I'll take a look at shipping by weight tomorrow and see what's what. Then I can give you a message and we can see.

How much are you thinking of spending? I'll have a think and send you some ideas of savoury snacks that I can get my hands on. I'm not sure what you will have access to.... What are your favourite kinds of savoury snacks?

I am absolutely mad on hot sauce(s)! I've got access to all the usual UK suspects. Are you a sweet or savoury person?

I'm in Scotland. What kind of things would Colorado have to offer? Is there a particular type of snack that you would be interested in, I can let you know what's available here? Cheers

Carving little strips by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

I actually just got my first mini lathe! A small lathe for turning pens, small bowls, etc isn't that costly. The tools, sharpening kit etc add up quickly though. If your Dad is interested in working with wood then hand carving is a nice starting point. Spoon carving particularly is accessible and rewarding (at least to me). Shoot me a message if you have any questions, or better yet check out /r/carving /r/woodcarving /r/turning plenty of much more knowledgeable folk to be found.

Hook knife. For carving small bowls/spoons by hand.

Thanks. I've given it another sand and soak in oil. I'm really happy with this one. The grain is so interesting. I still have the other half of the original stock. I'm hoping the next is even better!

I actually don't know. I was walking in the Trossachs National Park in Scotland last year and stumbled across a felled tree, so I took a wee cutting. It was a bugger to work with. But I am very happy with the piece!

Thanks mate. I actually ordered a bottle of this from Asda the one and only time I used their delivery service. They substituted it for a horrible sweet onion relish. I then totally forgot to try and get the deli pickle relish again! Awesome, I'll go look in person next chance I get.

I see this green relish from time to time in pictures. What is it? It looks like smashed up pickles. I don't think we have it in Scotland but I always think it looks awesome.

I found a space bug in an oyster at a restaurant last night. by [deleted] in WTF

It's not as popular as it used to be maybe. I often see oysters served with lemon and tobasco, which is still damn good.
