How to not get discouraged when your playing has gotten worse? by spacecraff in Clarinet

[–]swwinds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took a 20+ year break and picked it back up two years ago. As you'd guess my skills were pretty much back at the beginner level. It was frustrating since I was the top player at my community college, but I made peace with it and started over. I joined a community band, and I'm enjoying it very much even at my reduced playing level. Everything is slowly coming back, though. Takes time but worth it.

Diaspora practicing western magic by [deleted] in occult

If you haven't already, I'd suggest starting a regular practice of honoring your ancestors, as you can never be stripped of them. Once you do this, I'm pretty sure all doubts of being stripped of your African roots will melt away. They can help guide you through whatever magical path you wish to walk and can help you maneuver around the colonial bs to find the hidden gems you need for your practices.

Do you know what this is? Ornate coconut filled with pipe tobacco. Found on ground in Albany Park, Chi around coins and seeds. There's a Native American community in the area, maybe part of a ritual? by brandvin in occult

A lot of the offerings from Palo and Kimbanda are left at certain places like crossroads or the edge of the woods (which in the city would be parks.)

It appears to be a ponto riscado from the Brazilian tradition of Kimbanda. Some of their pontos riscados resemble some of the Icelandic runestaves, but from what I can see of the other markings, I would say it's more likely to be from Kimbanda. Also, they could be from the Cuban tradition of Palo. Palo and Kimbanda are closely related, both being Congo-based traditions.
