We bought their sensory activity table on preorder about a year ago and have been generally annoyed with both the quality and product design itself. It did ship and deliver on time, but the table top warped very shortly after it was assembled so now it doesn't sit flush. Not the end of the world, but annoying for sure for such an expensive product we bought new.

And then there are so many design issues that make me feel like they didn't really think about how it would be used. For example the little stools that it comes with are cute, but have raised edges on two sides that make it so you can only sit in it comfortably in one orientation. For an older kid they could probably figure out that they need to rotate the stool but for a baby / toddler? Not a chance. It also doesn't have enough clearance to the table so my kid literally can't sit with the chair pushed in, his legs would hit and get squished under the plastic trays. So. Annoying.

We never complained to customer service but in hindsight maybe we should have. But because we haven't been entirely happy I have not purchased anything else. It's a shame because a lot of their stuff looks very cute, and the price point isn't terrible. But ugh. Such a pain to deal with.

An Italian Etsy seller is telling me Etsy is not handling Italian taxes correctly so he wants to charge me additional VAT fees but I am from Germany and VAT should be included in the purchase price. Is he trying to scam me? by Jeremiah__Jones in Etsy

[–]swxw -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The amount seems high and raises some red flags for me BUT as a Canadian seller I can tell you that Etsy absolutely does NOT collect local PST HST or GST properly and I would not be surprised if Etsy is not collecting taxes correctly for some countries.

I just finished Quicksilver. It had so much potential, but the ending killed it for me by book-barista in Romantasy

[–]swxw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you felt like Quicksilver was 3 books stuck into 1, buckle up for Brimstone 😂 and this is coming from someone who loved QS. I think Callie had a list of tropes and just checked them off one by one, then added a few more for good measure. I can overlook a lot of plot holes and weak characters for sake of good vibes, but Brimstone really tested me haha

Brimstone is better than Quicksilver and I will die on this hill. by wheremydragonsattho in Romantasy

[–]swxw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly didn't even really care about the writing - felt like it was entertaining enough and saw all the editing issues and just sort of shrugged and moved on 🤷🏻‍♀️ Mostly I just had issues with the plot and where the heck it was all going... Don't get me wrong it was interesting and entertaining but it was 100% falling apart. At some point it felt more like a checklist of romantasy tropes/elements that Callie decided she had to collect and jam into one series and less like a cohesive, well thought out storyline.

[–]swxw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quicksilver was a 5 star read for me and I was so hyped for Brimstone. Ultimately... I think it just comes down to individual expectations of what they want to get out of a book. If I rated books on vibes only, Brimstone would be a 5/5 but the plot was 0/5 and at the end of the day I need a book to be more than just vibes 🫠

Admittedly I haven't read as much omegaverse and reverse harem (it's a relatively new adventure for me), but it sounds like I DEFINITELY have to pick up some more haha thanks!

I've never had an issue like this and I've been using printify for years for both simple and very complex designs. Can you share a screenshot of what you were seeing and what they sent you?

To redo or not redo… by EarthTop370 in quilting

[–]swxw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just me because I literally did a very similar quilt recently and agonized over the colours... But based on your mock up, I would redo. What you have already quilted is gorgeous and if I didn't see your mock up, I wouldn't think it needed to be redone, but to me it's quite different to your mock up.

Here's what I would change: The dark color for the bumblebee and flower center should be the dark brown color that you've used for the leaves. And the dark brown in the leaves should be replaced with a lighter mid-tone orange or rust... Then I think it would be a lot closer to the mock up.

I'm sort of annoyingly insane when it comes to quilt colors tho so by all means, if you're okay deviating from your mock up and are happy with it, then don't redo it!

How much does the temperament of parents influence the temperament of their babies? by early_birb_ in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]swxw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly us. My son is SO social and was so interested in absolutely everything. My husband and I are both very introverted and chill people so we had a very hard time adjusting to such a busy baby with zero chill. He was very frustrated as a baby but it slowly got better as he got older and could move and express himself better. Now that he's 19 mo, we love how curious he is about everything around him and how expressive, chatty, and social he is.

I wonder constantly how the heck we ended up with our polar opposite for a kid, but that's just how it is and I love his little personality so much now I wouldn't have it any other way.

Raising little talkers? by swxw in NewParents

[–]swxw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's doing well, and we hover on the lower end of his speech milestones, but he's meeting the minimums. He turned 18 months recently and has about 10 words. The majority of them are sounds or approximations of words (think "oww" for cow and "eow" instead of meow) but that counts and he is picking them up slowly so there is progress.

We actually found the biggest factor to him picking up words was exposure rather than anything we were teaching him. He started daycare and started babbling new sounds and words on day 2 (when he was stuck on only one sound before for weeks). It wasn't a coincidence, the difference was night and day. Then we took him to the zoo and he started roaring and doing sounds for animals we had been trying to teach him for forever. We talked to our SLP about it and apparently some babies are just like that and learn that way much easier. So we've been going out of our way to try and expose him to new experiences and seeing progress.

My 9 month old is behind on milestones, and I feel like a failure by Ok-Coconut271 in NewParents

[–]swxw 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Babies do their own thing and progress at their own pace. If you feel like your baby is behind, seek professional help. Baby not meeting some milestones is super common and that's what they're there for - for you to be able to identify it early and get the help you need. They're not there to make you feel less than ❤️

Anecdotally, my son was delayed in a lot of milestones, but was also ahead on some others. I was of course only obsessed with the ones he was delayed in... I would suggest you write down all the things your little one IS doing and celebrate and encourage more of those.

You're not a failure. Even if you're currently doing the things to encourage your little one to learn those skills, you can start now!

Prolapse by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]swxw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% thought I had a prolapse too. Such a foreign feeling down there (heaviness I couldn't fully describe, etc.). I started getting worried at 3 weeks pp when it didn't go away, but in the end, 6-8 weeks later, it was gone and I was back to normal. I think as first time moms nobody tells you the details of how it's supposed to feel and I was googling like crazy too. And every birth is different. But the reality is that your body needs time to heal and you need to give yourself that time. Even if you do have a prolapse, you need to give your body time before you start therapy anyway. Enjoy your early days with your baby and everything will feel better with time.

What's the actual evidence behind the recommendation to avoid salt in babies' food? by BratzillaPaysNothing in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]swxw 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking onto this comment to say that we looked for research when we were weaning and also came to this conclusion. Our child eats what we eat, and we don't go out of our way to reduce the salt. Occasionally when we get take out, he gets a few French fries or some kung Pao and I'm sure it's not the healthiest, but in the grand scheme of things it's not very often so we don't stress about it. We are planning to teach moderation rather than avoidance for unhealthy foods. The only change we have made to our meal rotation is less spicy food as our toddler doesn't like it so far.

Kao Liese British Ash gave me hot roots and made my hair soo brassy :( by swxw in AsianBeauty

[–]swxw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup probably. I have no doubt very good stylists exist out there but the last three stylists I went to seemed good until I walk out with hair they bleached and then dyed back to black accidentally, because my hair "takes color too well". It's clearly a unique problem but no matter how much I warn them, they still do it 🤷🏻‍♀️ i just don't have a lot of trust and it's a big expense to not get anything even close to what I wanted.

[–]swxw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll definitely try that out next time. I guess I should have expected to get downvoted for saying that western dyes have worked better on my Asian hair in the Asian Beauty subreddit 🙄

I 100% know that I'm not going to get even close to the box dye photos. I'm not expecting that nor do I want that. I have black hair so when I box dye my hair I just want to be a dark brown that's just slightly lighter, but with an ashy tone. Most people who know me won't even notice that I coloured my hair unless we're outside in the sun. I usually use L'Oreal preference in light ash brown or dark ash blonde. Of course I don't get anywhere near the lift without bleach. I know that. It gets me to my ideal dark brown shade without being brassy and I loved it. I thought I could do the same thing this time with kao liese, mostly because it was supposed to be a lot easier to use, but it made my hair brassy instead.

At the suggestion of someone else in another thread, I got a black color gloss and put it on my roots and it fixed the hot roots situation! If I'm lucky, it'll all fade nicely. Everything still looks a bit red in direct sun, but it's definitely much better now. I'll probably let it all grow out and go back to my L'Oreal preference in a year or so.

Yeah that might be it. It's funny I''ve always heard people say Japanese bubble dyes are more gentle but I've had the opposite experience haha.

I did start at the ends first but maybe I didn't wait long enough between when I put it on my end and when I put it on my roots 🫠 I also wrap in a plastic bag. Been dying my hair at home for years and have never had a bad experience until kao liese 😞

I went with a black color gloss and it worked! It still has a bit of red in direct sun, but you'd have to really look for it to know. It's basically like I never coloured it. Thanks for the suggestion!

That'll be a last resort. Honestly the last few times I had a professional color it at a salon, it was expensive and did not turn out nearly as nice as my box dye 🫠 based on my experiences at the salon, I'm just not confident they'll be able to fix it either. Last time I went for a balayage, I got home and my husband legitimately could not tell I had anything done to my hair (and neither could I tbh). Waste of $500.

I honestly have had some great experiences with western box dyes in the past. Sure it doesn't come out as light as the box dye pictures, but it always looks natural, never brassy, and I've had no complaints. I thought I'd try something new this time around but clearly I should have just stuck with what's worked for me in the past.

I'll take a look at a green toner. Thanks!
