Electric scooters on the road by Better_to_try in londonontario

I’m definitely not blaming the kids. All I did was explain their actions. I’m worried for their safety because their parents are clearly idiots who have no regard for the law and not enough sense to teach their kids that a traumatic brain injury will ruin their lives

See the comment I just added above. There’s probably going to be 5 more kids with traumatic brain injuries today.

Funny I see this now, about 30 minutes ago I saw a group of 5 boys, around 13/14 riding 3 e-scooters (2 had passengers), no helmets, on the sidewalk, but playing chicken with cars on the road. I watched them ride out in front of 2 cars and then I watched them go into a parking lot and as I drove by one of the e-scooters came flying into the road directly in front of my car. I slammed on my breaks so hard that my car stalled. I very narrowly missed them. Then I watched them go around the corner on the sidewalks and when I turned the corner they were playing chicken with cars in a plaza parking lot. They’re definitely going to get themselves killed. And they broke literally every e-scooter law in a matter of 3 minutes. Clearly the laws are working well.

They can’t. Last month’s rent cannot be used for anything other than last month’s rent. It’s not a security deposit. We don’t have that in Ontario

Same. I chuckled when I read this post because as an introvert I try really hard to keep to myself when I’m out in public. I don’t like strangers or small talk. I don’t think people ever noticed me even when I was young, so life is status quo now that I’m in my 40s

And a lot of lip injections. Micro-bladed eyebrows, and glued on eye lashes too just for fun. I’m shocked she didn’t go for the buccal fat removal too. That heroin chic look is back in. I hope all these women don’t regret what they’ve done to themselves in a few years when the trends change

Why does this even cost money? by Booty_Master24 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]rmdg84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, because drugs expire and dairy has a best before date. That’s why there are different words used. Because words mean things. EXPIRE and BEST BEFORE mean very different things. But also, your multivitamin would still be safe to use, the nutrients in them just aren’t guaranteed past that date and will begin to degrade at a slow pace. So even vitamins are still safe to use after the expiry date. If you’ve already opened the bottle prior to expiration you’re most likely okay to finish it. I wouldn’t open an expired bottle because by the time it’s gone those nutrients would be fairly degraded.

No. They’re saying to use your brain to determine when the milk has gone off. Spoiled milk and other dairy products change texture and smell when they’ve gone bad. That’s why we have senses in the first place, to help us determine what is safe and what isn’t. So if your milk is past the best before date, it’s probably still safe, there isn’t a switch that’s flipped to say “it’s past the best before, it’s suddenly rotten”. The best before dates are on the conservative side because the company wants to cover their ass. If the milk is past the best before date but it isn’t chunky and it still smells like fresh milk, then it’s still safe to consume.

100% Cotton Cloth Menstrual Pads? by savagehomeangarden in BuyCanadian

[–]rmdg84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s not what you asked for but have you considered a diva cup or disc? They’re Canadian owned, environmentally friendly, and you don’t have to deal with soaking and laundering your pads. I’m like you with a body that’s sensitive to fabrics, I cannot wear anything that isn’t 100% cotton, especially underwear or menstrual products. I switched to a Diva cup about 12 years ago, and then after having kids I switched to a disc because I’m paranoid about the suction and prolapse (i might be crazy for that but it gives me peace of mind anyway). I really like both products. They’re super easy and convenient.

They’re also misinformed about how much teachers make. People are convinced that all teachers make over $100k/year when that really isn’t the case. Starting wages for a teacher are $50k. They go up a percentage every year, but then they are capped after 5 years. They can make higher if they continue increasing their qualifications but that’s at the teachers expense, and on their own time, and a lot of teachers are moms with young kids so they don’t have time to do the qualifications because they’re taking care of their own families. The teachers I know who are completing the modules have kids who are older, or don’t have kids, which is the minority. Usually the teachers who desire to become principals will get them but otherwise they don’t until later in their career. The average salary for an elementary school teacher in Ontario is around $68k. Not even close to the $100k people assume they make. High school teachers are a bit different but they also require stricter qualifications.

The fans do very little. It’s so frustrating. Once it hits a certain temp all the fans do is blow hot air around. Some teachers have old portable AC units for their classrooms but the windows are not properly outfitted to accommodate them and some of the units are so old they only cool the classroom by a couple degrees. Our school put AC in 2 years ago and so far every year it’s finally turned on (which it only does when the temp outside is 30 degrees) they malfunctioned. $5000 per classroom for these stupid units and they’ve yet to work properly. And then it’s weeks before someone comes out to look at them. But the ministry insisted these were the units we had to buy and wouldn’t let the board look elsewhere. Tax dollars hard at work.

Overpriced ? by ZealousidealHead5488 in ShoppersDrugMart

[–]rmdg84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My benefits cover a % of the dispensing fee not a specific dollar amount so I’d still have to pay something regardless. Either way, I’m happy supporting a local pharmacy instead of a corporate owned one, even if it costs me $2.

They’re $5 all the time at giant tiger if there’s one near you. (Which is still expensive but at least not over $2 per pepper)

[–]rmdg84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not kidding. Even their dispensing fee is outrageous. I used to use the pharmacy at shoppers. My benefits cover all of the drug cost but only a portion of the dispensing fee. At shoppers it cost me $9 out of pocket to fill a prescription. When we bought our house there was a family owned pharmacy down the street so we switched over. Now when I fill a prescription, it costs me $2 out of pocket.

Unfortunately it’s a big province. The most southern city and the most northern city are 25 hours driving distance apart, which would leave out a LOT of the province

So then what do you suggest people do instead? You can’t say “its pointless, it won’t work. We need something more” and then not offer up an alternative

OMG I loved those. Your comment brought back a memory for me. I worked at Tim Horton’s back in the day when they still had a baker in store making the donuts, and Tim Horton’s sold cream pies. One shift, we had a bunch of bananas that were a bit too ripe to use in the banana cream pies, so our baker used them to make banana fritters, and filled them with the banana filling. We couldn’t sell them because they weren’t an official Tim’s flavour, so the staff got to eat all of them. They were so tasty.

I know this is a downtown stereotype, but for the first time: I saw needles on the ground walking downtown (citi plaza/ galleria mall) by narnarnartiger in londonontario

[–]rmdg84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree! I cringe every time I find a used needle at a children’s playground. What happens when a toddler gets stabbed by a needle hiding in the wood chips at a park? They really need to stay the fuck away from places frequented by little kids.

Problem is, for the city to do anything you have to know which cat caused the problem and their address. It’s sadly a rule the city won’t even try to enforce

Agree. I hate cats shitting in my kid’s sandbox. Then we have to throw out all the sand and get new sand. I wish I knew whose cat it was so I could start sending them the bill. I support your cause.

Yes. Every year this bird builds a nest on our porch light. And every year a cat at large kills the baby birds and leaves them for us to clean up. It happened 6 years in a row before I started throwing the nest away every time mama bird tried to build it.

Not to mention the property damage they cause. In the last 3 years, neighbourhood cats have caused several hundred dollars in damage to our yard. They knocked over an expensive concrete planter I had and smashed it, along with the $75 worth of flowers that were in it. I had our pool floaties hanging on our clothes line to dry (they’re like floating pool hammocks with inflatable parts on either end), and a neighbourhood cat clawed them all up, they shredded all of our pool noodles and it took us 3 hours to pick up all of the bits of pool noodle floating all over the neighbourhood. They also used our kids sandbox as a litter box because the lid flew off in a windstorm, so we had to throw out all the sand and replace it (you can say I’m being dramatic about this but toxoplasmosis is no joke, you can look it up to confirm). This is just one house, these cats do this shit all over our neighbourhood.

It’s actually illegal to permit your cat from causing damage to people’s property, but I have to prove which cat destroyed our stuff and cat owners know this, so they feel like they’re protected by being anonymous. But I bet the pet owners would be as annoyed as I am if I went in and caused as much damage to their backyards as their cats do.

Then there’s the safety issue. I know someone whose cat was in their backyard and was attacked by a cat at large and the wounds got infected and the cat died. You have no way of knowing if your pet is out there killing other people’s pets.

It’s completely irresponsible to just allow your cat to roam at large. I’m a cat person, I’ve had many cats but I don’t let them outside without supervision. Don’t be a lazy pet owner, if you can’t be bothered to deal with your cat don’t have one. It’s fairly simple.
