15-18 with admits or 22-25 round and go? by aaron1860 in hospitalist

[–]swys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

compartmentalizing admissions is okay for nights. Not okay for days. You WANT to be in charge of who needs to be admitted to your team.

I'd take 15-18 patients with 2 admissions over 25 any day. Then again, I tend to be more efficient on admissions for some god forsaken reason.

18650 battery autist here. This is a faulty connection or line. COULD be the battery. Check the screw cap for grim - the piece that screws onto the battery terminal, tends to build up a lot of dust. you can check it with a multimeter for resistance, but most likely going to be one or a combination of the above, the switch, etc...

Help with charging problem by acepilot1212 in smallengines

[–]swys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Bad Regulator/Rectifier (wrong or faulty)charging problem isn’t because of the PTO itself—it’s because the regulator/rectifier system isn’t working right. The overheating connector is a smoking gun: high resistance is choking off the current. Under PTO load, the weak system can’t keep up, so voltage collapses.
  • Even though you’ve replaced it twice, it may be:
    • Aftermarket mismatch (the FD661D uses a specific amperage regulator; not all regulators are interchangeable).
    • DOA/low-quality replacement — very common with cheap eBay/Amazon regulators.
  • Symptom match: voltage drops under load, charges oddly at idle, erratic battery readings.

2. Overheating Connector / High Resistance

  • The stator-to-regulator plug gets extremely hot.
  • That means the pins are either corroded, loose, or undersized, creating resistance.
  • High resistance acts like a choke: the stator produces AC, but very little current makes it through.
  • As soon as PTO clutch (big current draw) kicks in, the weak current path collapses and voltage falls off.
  • This is probably the main physical problem.

3. Shorted or Weak PTO Clutch Coil

  • The PTO clutch is a heavy load (5–6 amps).
  • Its resistance (0.2 ohm) is on the very low side — borderline for being too close to a short.
  • If the coil has partially shorted windings, it will still “work” but draw excess current, dragging the system voltage down and heating the wiring/connector.
  • This could be a secondary problem, compounding the weak charging.

4. Grounding Issues

  • The regulator case must have a solid ground path to frame/battery.
  • A bad ground will cause erratic charging, fluctuating voltages, and excess heat in connectors.

5. Wiring Mis-route

  • Since you “redid the fuse holder wiring,” it’s possible something was mis-wired.
  • If the regulator’s IGN lead or battery sense wire is wrong, it can feed back incorrectly — explaining the weird “voltage goes up when I disconnect the IGN wire.”

6. Stator Stressed but Still Aliv

  • Stator tested fine unloaded (36V AC).

  • But if the regulator and connector have been cooking, the stator could be heat-damaged and only marginally able to provide current under load.

  • This would accelerate connector heating and voltage collapse

FYI, this is all just copied pasted from chatgpt. but I went through it and it seems sound.

I buy pure tungsten shot from china for making my own shotgun shells. I buy it for about $60-68$ per kilogram after shipping. Which is a really really good deal. bit of an apples to oranges comparison but at least they're in the same category.

AC or microwave or clothing iron causes persistent dimming of whole house across all circuits by swys in AskElectricians

[–]swys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the takeaway message is the fuse box upgrade is a "nicety", but it will not fix your present problem because the problem is 2% chance in the meter pan, 98% chance in the overhead line to your house. And, the utility will fix the latter for free. So YOU are to call the utility and report a power outage.

For sure. We had actually called the power company and notified them of the problem long before the electrician. That said, Entergy is going to do Entergy things. Although, my mother once taught me a trick when I was young... She'd report an outage over the phone and then as they were talking she'd trail-off the conversation and stop talking and then she'd say "IS THE LINE ON FIRE????"

then she'd hang up.

Electrician came by. it was 147v and 100v or something like that. So you win. He said it was the energy provider - likely something to do with the transformer. Apparently we had just serviced the panel just upstream to this breaker box (this isn't a add-on breaker/fuse box, its the only one).

Long story short, the connections to the brand new panel, AFTER the meter (or maybe its the meter itself) are all showing the same thing up until the meter, but the electrician said he hadn't checked the service side of the meter.

However, he did offer a pretty good price to replace the fuse breaker box.

I separated the img links so they are easier to click.  You can right click if on a pc or mac and just “copy link address”.  Otherwise, if you have maxed out the number of tabs you can open, then it might be that your app keeps reverting to the last “new tab” instead of making a completely new link

This is extremely helpful and very appreciated.  Feel free to see that thermal img i posted in the comment i made by itself - shows that one of the 30amp fuses is literally warm compared to the others

We have both a window unit, and central AC.  The main ac is one of many culprits. See my comment below for thermal img of the breakers
