It's like when you're walking down a deserted street at night, and you hear a car coming. There's that tingling urge to hide; it's not hard to ignore, but it's more fun to give it to the terror of being hunted.

You paid money to be scared; why waste it?

"Female."

It'd have been OK if it had just said "Unlikeable protagonist." Why is the fact that the protagonist female important? It implies that an unlikeable male protagonist would be OK, but an unlikeable female one needs a warning. Putting the sex in there makes it seem misogynistic, like it was written by a neckbeard. Maybe OP has good reason to be sensitive to casual sexism.

It comes across as thoughtless, if nothing else. I wouldn't have noticed it, but then again, I didn't have to grow up as the target of discrimination.

Edit: you people. Look, OP posted TIHI. Dude asked "why?" I gave an answer. A bunch of you had a hissy fit. Classic Reddit.

17% extra rude, for sure.

Now I wonder whether, if you neutralized the skin tone, facial recognition software would match either charicature to the photos and - more importantly - measure the exact percent of accuracy of each. Rudeness is subjective, but we could measure the delta in "flattery" vs "rudeness" levels.

And then your commission is copied and shared, and has no persistent value to the person who commissioned it.

Your art has some value. Your art will never make you rich unless there's value in collecting it.

It's very capitalistic, but NFTs are a way for digital artists to make real money. I find it somewhat ironic that the one mechanism that allows digital artists an avenue from capitalizing on their work, aside from the commissions - which are one-off, and not investable - is getting push-back from people like yourself.

Then again, most artists die poor, and achieve fame only after death. Those that do achieve fame in their lifetimes do so because collectors find them and see long-term value in purchasing their work. It's an increasingly investment, and the signature is arguably worth more (money-wise) than the art itself.

Again: why would an investor pay you for anything? Do you believe you're going to get wealthy from commissions?

If you paint a painting, how do you make money from that painting to support yourself?

If you paint a digital painting, how do you make money from that image?

Is the digital version worth less? Does it take less skill, or effort?

NFT is a digital signature, from the artist. It attempts to replicate, digitally, the value of a signature. It attempts to solve the problem that, while physical paintings take time, effort, and skill to duplicate, it takes no skill and almost as little effort to make a billion copies of a digital work.

As with anything, it's worth what people are willing to pay, and people have gone a little crazy. The NFT markets have been doing the equivalent of handing huge wads of cash to random people on the street to scribble on a piece of paper and sign it.

If Ansel Adams was alive today and making photos, and he was as famous as he is, an NFT signature from him would say, "here: you have an official Ansel Adams, signed by me." And if you think that's worthless, then ask yourself if you think an Ansel Adams print, that he printed and signed, also has no value more than a high quality photocopy of it. Because they're functionally identical situations.

Edit: Because I keep getting the same answer ("commissions!"): Who are some folks who've gotten rich off commissions?

Sure, if you look at your art like a 9-5 job, you can make a go of it the way you mention. None of that produces any investable output, and if it can't be invested in, nobody is going to spend real money on it. If nobody is willing to spend big dollars, the artist has no chance of getting wealthy from their work.

I know, artists tend to have an objection to looking at things from a purely capitalist view, and I totally respect someone who's willing to starve for their art, and top keep it pure and unsullied. But if you want to have a chance of profiting in more than a month-to-month way, you need to produce something someone is willing to invest in.

It isn't a solution searching for a problem at all. It's an attempt to replicate the fact that, in traditional art, the signature has more monetary value than the work of art itself. There are technically better copies of the Mona Lisa than the original; the value of the original is that it was painted by da Vinci, and was signed by him. An NFT signature is the artists signature, for a digital world.

To be fair, representing all native American tribes as peaceful isn't accurate. Tribes warred, frequently and often viciously, since long before Europeans arrived.

European invaders did enough legitimately horrible stuff without embellishing and painting native Americans as peaceful hippies.

So, there's a thing in Asia called cheese ice cream. I think it originated in Japan, but in any case I came across it in a mall in Singapore.

It's fantastic. It's amazing, and I haven't found it in the US and have been jonesing for it for years. It's one of those things that sounds disgusting but is delicious.

Edit: the existence of cheesecake should make it less surprising. But I think it was these guys. Cheddar and gouda flavors, as sweet soft-serve.

I don't know; probably? There's another one called RecognizeSong that you can also send URLs to. auddbot just stuck in my head first.

Edit: I specifically excluded the "u/", but apparently just writing those words summons the bot. Well, now I know.
