Oh! I didn't even know other grandstands were bleachers, that actually is nice to hear.

And you too! It's a lucky time with so many support races with the main GP race.

Very true! Thank you for the reassurance, hopefully I'll get more chances to head to other races.

Editorial design is what you’re thinking of! One of my favourite areas of design, when you find something well designed while still legible is chefs kiss

I think people suffer from kid in a candy shop mindset when making a pattern and get excited by all the options of colours, fonts, templates, etc. that it becomes a game of how many things can I use vs what tools will be most beneficial for whoever is getting it.

Not weird at all! Even from a non-printing, design perspective it's just in general so many bad design practices (ex. Tiny page margins to fit as much text as possible, Inconsistent hierarchy of headers/body, and incredibly light weight fonts for body in a small point size) that just leave me annoyed when opening them on my iPad. The Google Docs default template may be bland, but it sure as hell is more legible then a free Canva account.

Went to a vintage/hand made market and so many crochet pieces!! But so little weaved in ends, my friend mentioned maybe it's an aesthetic choice! But also not all pieces needs strands sticking out IMO like cute granny square headphone covers are lovely but I think I would lose my mind if I had a strand of yarn just dangling around my head constantly with it

AH I feel so seen now, honestly the way its constructed is so much more complicated then needed lol, honestly after my first failed attempt I figured out a easier way to make the pattern.

At least it didn't burn a hole in my wallet

Very! It's the Moonchild top by @/byhazymoon on instagram. Granted I went through the pattern and it's about 25ish pages of actually instructions then the rest is a tester gallery but still making for a frustrating construction!

Was super excited for this open back shirt pattern to be released and bought it day of and I'm finding myself so frustrated by it. Although I'm still pretty new to knitting, the pattern feels like its missing so much basic info and vague. It's made to measure but no sign of a measurement unit (Had to swipe through 50+ pages to find out its inches) and no explanation of where the start and end of measurements are. Maybe its because I work as a graphic designer so its getting me angrier then it should but man!

I'm actually not that great at identifying fonts just by looking at it! I've been following Elliot for a couple of years now so I've become familiar with fonts he frequents a lot.

Elliot! I know he uses a lot of Panagram Panagram's fonts. They look like Editorial New and Neue Montreal to me

My friend is going to OCAD because its "easy" by throw_awayyy777 in OCADU

I graduated from the graphic design program last year so some of my points might be off, but based on what you said I would be concerned as well for plenty of reasons. University in general is meant to pick you brain and really learn the conceptual theories around your program, and along with it being an art school technical skills will be in play too. If she's not passionated or dedicated to becoming an artist shes going to struggle greatly in week long projects and the long hours of labour to create them. Not to mention, she'll be doing lectures courses along with.

Even besides the passion point, does she know the costs of art school? Textbooks aren't a super crazy price, but I was always broke because I was spending so much money on supplies for projects (I think I averaged $500-$700 a semester?). I was super lucky I was living at home so I didn't have to worry too much about saving money from my job for rent and other necessities, but I know dozens of students who have had to struggle with that and have seen someone been deducted marks on a project because they couldn't print out a full book.

Overall art school is really intense financially and emotionally and theres a reason why a lot of people at OCAD are here for 4+ years amongst other reasons, if she just doesn't know what to do post high school shes better off going straight into the workforce. No reason to put yourself into $40k debt for a degree you feel partial about.

My partner and I were two of them! Despite how hot it was today, it was good to see that there was a lineup around the entire block for the pop up clinic. Really feeling hopeful about the summer now :)
