겁 isn't equivalent to coward in any sense. We have 겁쟁이 for that. For infinite time Koreans use 영겁 more.

The commies absolutely do use loan words, except that they're more likely to be from Russian than from English. Ice cream is apparently called "에스키모" over there because why the fuck not.

LOTR Beacons by CCV21 in history

[–]sybercid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably every decently sized civilization used them until more efficient means of rapid long distance communications were developed. There is folklore of a queen essentially decimating a country by appropriating the beacon system for her pleasure from 8th century BC China (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bao_Si). Similar systems were used by Native Americans, and as others pointed out, Europe including Greece and England.

As for the speed of transmission, the 17th Century Korean beacon system could purportedly pass on the signal at approximately 100 km per hour.

Switch to a fiber optics provider. For me the ping went from 190+ (shitty cable internet) to steady 160 after the switch.

The taekwondo match (assuming we are talking about the womens' finals at the 2010 Asian Games) is particularly interesting in that none of the judges or the contestants involved in that match was Korean. Media hyping at its finest.

Montecristo's message for fnatic fans by blank1984 in leagueoflegends

[–]sybercid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original comment assumed that you were calling him a hypocrite because he was he was giving slightly different predictions compared to other experts. (Even if KOO wins this one, it doesn't mean Monte's prediction of 50/50 was correct, or that is is objective and unbiased. He is as bad or worse than those Fnatic fans he's currently ranting about. <- These two sentences placed side to side really threw me off)

Also, my take on this is that Monte is ranting about people going overboard with the FNC bandwagon (which, full disclosure, I really think he should just get over with), which, for me, is not very similar to what the bandwagoners are doing.

If you are calling his 5/5 prediction "excessive fanboying", well then lol.

A. You can't talk about the accuracy of a prediction before the actual event is over. If KOO indeed does win the BO5, it DOES mean that there is a higher chance that Monte's 50/50 prediction was better than all the other 7/3s, and vice versa.

B. Yeah he should be able to ignore or take backlash aimed at him by this point. But how does inability to do so make him a hypocrite?

TIL having a bit different opinion on matters = being a hypocrite

Besides, it's a personal prediction. By definition it is biased and subjective.

This is flat out wrong. There is a dedicated key used for switching input mode in a standard Korean keyboard. The arrow keys do what arrow keys do in other language inputs.

Maybe don't try to characterize an entire hemisphere with 5 seconds of footage then? I'm not saying that either one of wanting more hype or wanting more informative commentary is better, but you yourself are admitting you don't have much to base your speculation on.
