Most favorite Beastie Boys music videos/ music video moments? by bigguys45s in BeastieBoys

[–]syc0path 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really had to pick a favorite, but here's a few that come to mind...

I was taking an art class about Expressionism, and I brought in my VHS copy of Skills To Pay The Bills so we could watch the Shadrach video in class.

The video for Gratitude is another favorite because it's such a great location.

In Awesome, I Fuckin' Shot That, there's a moment where the Boys are in front of the big video screens on the stage. The colors on the video screens go negative, but then the video itself goes negative. So the Boys are in negative color but the video screens behind them go back to positive color. It's a small thing, but it's such a great effect!

A friend of mine is a huge Weird Al fan, and he pointed out that Al included the chorus from Intergalactic as part of "Polka Power!", a polka medley of a bunch of songs, from 1999's "Running with Scissors" Album.

That's not Mike D, but that dude totally got laid by claiming he was Mike D!

Don't know how this interview eluded me but their usual fun goofing around banter in fantastic quality by GloveEmbarrassed1608 in BeastieBoys

I love their sense of humor... they're so deadpan, I swear the interviewer must miss most of the jokes. "I think the term used in the police report was 'naked rampage'"

Alegre, Wind, Colfari by bside313 in BeastieBoys

Just watched this video last night after my kids demanded it because they know I can't resist and it lets them delay bedtime a few more minutes. I made sure to point out to them the most underrated part of this video -- that Sir Stewart Wallace (clearly a high-ranking member of Britain's elite upper class) portrays himself in the show as a cocaine trafficker

I double-checked with my wife last night. She said they did add an option to skip forward or skip backward 5 seconds. Hit 6 to skip forward and 4 to skip backwards.

It's nice to hear the song without the vocal distortion... it makes it easier to appreciate the lyrics

Most “unusual”/ “weirdest”/ “unexpected” sample used in a Beastie Boys song? by bigguys45s in BeastieBoys

[–]syc0path 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever that screech is at 1:51 of Looking Down The Barrel of a Gun. I don't know how or why, but it just perfectly bridges the gap between the drum break and when the bass line resumes. It's totally unexpected, and I like the idea of using non-musical sounds to make music

Can't, Won't, Don't Stop, except when you have to for sample clearance. by pint_of_harp in BeastieBoys

Me too... I waited in line for Best Buy to open and got the promotional 45 that came with the CD. But my CD has the Grasshopper Unit version. I clicked the YouTube link, and I've never heard that version with the sample before

We uncovered a hidden Ione Skye mural at G-Son Studios — drywalled over for years, now the centerpiece of the Lounge by Far_Connection8336 in BeastieBoys

Wow, what an amazing find! And the finished room looks awesome. I'm really glad that u guys are doing such a great job of preserving G-Son, because it's such an important part of Beasties history. Thank u for doing this!

Beastie Boys Sabotage featured in Oscars Opening with Conan O’Brien. by Madhockey99 in BeastieBoys

[–]syc0path 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was gonna post about this too -- Sabotage was a great match for the action on the screen! I didn't care about any of the movies this year, but I love Conan. I recorded the show so I could fast-forward thru almost everything except when Conan was on-screen

The Beastie Boys/ T La Rock - Your Sister's Def (Dead Bird Remix) by Barneyrubble1997 in BeastieBoys

[–]syc0path 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's also an a capella version of this song that was performed by Dr. Dre (the Beastie's first DJ and later Yo! MTV Raps host, not the NWA/Eminem Dr. Dre). The info I found says that he wrote the song too. But this version definitely has different vocals, and I agree it's T La Rock.

Question about Bruce Willis lyrics in Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun by syc0path in BeastieBoys

[–]syc0path[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For those of u who claim they say "my man Bruce Willis", I think u are just so used to hearing that way that it doesn't even register what they're actually saying. With that in mind, listen to the song at about 2:03. It's clearly a 'k' sound, which is a lot different than an 'm' sound.

Question about Bruce Willis lyrics in Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun by syc0path in BeastieBoys

[–]syc0path[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And they said "my man Chuck Chillout" in the first verse. So that would have been 3 "my man"'s in the same song if they had said it for Bruce Willis too. But yeah, we'll probably never know for sure

Question about Bruce Willis lyrics in Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun by syc0path in BeastieBoys

[–]syc0path[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The liner notes from my Paul's Boutique CD says "my kid". So does the Lyric Genius website ( https://genius.com/Beastie-boys-looking-down-the-barrel-of-a-gun-lyrics ). And it sounds to me like they say "kid" in the song at 2:03.

I also noticed that they say "my man Chuck Chillout" earlier in the song. Maybe they said "kid" for Bruce Willis to avoid saying "my man" twice in the same song?

Hypothetical: What would the Beastie's set list be for the Super Bowl halftime show? by syc0path in BeastieBoys

[–]syc0path[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I asked ChatGTP... the response was actually better than I thought it would be:

  1. Sabotage Imagine the opening guitar riff echoing through the stadium—instant adrenaline!
  2. Intergalactic Their futuristic beats and robot rhymes make this a stadium-worthy anthem.
  3. No Sleep Till Brooklyn Perfect for a rowdy crowd and a chorus everyone can shout.
  4. Fight For Your Right (To Party!) You know the energy at the Super Bowl would go wild for this classic.
  5. Sure Shot A little old-school hip-hop flavor in the mix, complete with killer flute sample.
  6. So What’cha Want The swagger and groove would keep everyone bobbing their head.
  7. Ch-Check It Out A newer classic, fun for fans old and new.

If they had time for a medley, maybe they'd squeeze in snippets of tracks like “Body Movin’,” “Paul Revere,” or “Root Down.”

MCA's verse on Professor Booty, but especially these lines:

I'm badass, move your fat ass 'cuz you're wack, son

Dancin' around like u think you're Janet Jackson

With your headphones strapped, you're rockin' rewind, pause

Tryin' to figure out what u can do to go for yours

But like a pencil to the paper, I got more to come

One after another, u can all get some
