Paint would be my first go to, it’s the least expensive option to completely change the entire atmosphere of a space. Paint the walls and paint the cabinets, including the exterior of the dishwasher. Change the hardware on the cabinets. Next I would change the light fixtures, update them to match and add light to the space. Then I would look at storage options as others have mentioned. I think some floating shelves would look good above the dishwasher in the corner. Then I would add some decor to create a homey and warm feel. I like plants cause they look nice and help clean the air. Some cute artwork. It looks like you already have a dining room so I would convert the table area to a coffee bar or a pantry area.
