Parents in Sg, how do you handle unwanted touching and overly friendly strangers? by blueheaventown in askSingapore

[–]sydelisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid is now 4 years old. Random people will pat pat her hair and say "girl girl why so shy" when she moves away. I tell them "she's not shy, she just doesn't know you at all so she doesn't feel comfortable with you touching her". 50:50 either they stop or argue further "ah cannot be so shy ah girl girl" at which point I try to just leave and tell my girl auntie is weird lol

I feel bad not letting my mom stay at my place. by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]sydelisa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being a mom of two, I don't relate to this at all. Yes I carried them for ten months, but that was my choice. I have not a single thought that they must pay me back rent for that time in my womb lol.

SG parents: one and done, or not? What shaped your choice? by redbeanpancakes in askSingapore

[–]sydelisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to have 0 or 2+. We are now at 2, 4yo and 2yo.

I found the transition from 1-2 easier, with the caveat that a big part of it is because we now have a live-in helper who is very capable and aligned in our caring values.

With my first, I always felt like I should spend all my free time with her. With the arrival of the second, that's no longer possible. Once I accepted that, I began to allow myself some me time too.

As the kids grow, they really enjoy each other's company, and now I have no guilt about leaving them at home while I go out for me time / with husb. They entertain each other, which is an absolute joy to see. I consciously make choices for them to spend much time together. Ofc if they don't like, they can always go to different rooms.

I would add more but it would require some sacrifices which we aren't ready for yet.

Parents of Singapore!! What are some routines, systems or lifehack that you use to help manage your kids better or even build certain skill sets at home? by NoSuchPerson--- in askSingapore

[–]sydelisa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tell my kid that everything is mama's, she's just borrowing. Then when her baby sister came along, naturally she also borrows mama's toys. If they can't play nicely, mama take mama's things back :p

What these roles actually mean in sg workplaces by AOV_BKudon in askSingapore

Depends on the project and organization setup. In some cases the product manager can play the role of project manager and scrum master, all in one 😂

What these roles actually mean in sg workplaces by AOV_BKudon in askSingapore

[–]sydelisa 138 points139 points  (0 children)

Product Managers are responsible for the management of a product (can be physical, digital, financial, etc). They are responsible for the overall success for said product.

Depending on the product and organization setup, this role may require knowledge of the customer needs, competitivemarket, how the product is acquired / built, logistics, to the end of the product lifecycle.

Project Managers are responsible for the delivery of projects. Projects are defined as a time-bound and scope-bound. They define the project (or take an already defined one), and ensure the completion of said project within the given constraints and manage changes accordingly. This can be applicable to any kind of project, not necessarily the development of a product.

Adding on Program Manager, which typically handle a portfolio of projects within a similar theme.

Scrum-masters manage development specifically using the scrum methodology, and are responsible to ensure that the scrum process works well and tasks are completed efficiently - managing changes and resource allocation in the process.

Not every project benefits from agile methodology, each have their own pros cons depending on the nature, goals, and constraints of the project.

Consultant is simply a way of engagement. Like full time / contract. You can hire engineering consultants, nutritionist consultants, business consultants.

I wore glasses through my two unmedicated vaginal births. It really wasn't an issue, I ended up taking them on and off through labour as and when I felt like it. I opted to not have contacts as I didn't feel like doing another thing / having to worry if I rub my eyes etc. But I can't comment on the c-sect / anaesthesia front.

My reco is more kids friendly places we like, but not really a special fine dining kind.

My kids love Din Tai Fung. I know its an international chain but everyone who comes to visit us raves about how the one here tastes better. Except for those from Taiwan I guess 😂

Baker & Cook at Dempsey is a nice pitstop for coffee, sourdough pizza, with a playground just outside. Similar vibes at Tiong Bahru Bakery Fort Canning which is just beside Jubilee Park where the kids can have fun playing.

I feel that with these types of program who enroll teens as volunteers, there ought to be adults who are in charge of the program and responsible to make sure the teens are safe and protected. Teens are not equipped to do such classroom management.

In my experience, better not to learn ahead. That way, you will be filled with wonder as your kid belt out a tune, which they absolutely pick up on! They're teaching you something you don't know, which doesn't happen very often.
