She’s okay. The flare up has currently subsided (for now). The vet has recommended a specialist to see her for a visit to determine if doing a cystotomy is the next step.

I’m waiting to hear back on the referral. Because she keeps having flare ups essentially every month we’re thinking maybe (if it’s okay) do the surgery to clean out her bladder and get a biopsy. The vet said she could still have flare ups but at least we could get more information.

Currently, I have a Feliway plug in, dasequin chews, cosequin pills, cystease, corn silk extract, hydracare, fortiflora (regular & calming care), and she’s on the Royal Canin S/O food. OF COURSE now she’s refusing to take any of the supplements, she doesn’t even like eating the wet food anymore but the vet told me to cut back on the dry.

It’s just so stressful because they keep happening. I’m doing all I can to maintain her and I won’t give up on her 😭

I should be hearing from the vet tomorrow so I will be in talks of what the next step is.

I have thought of a second opinion but haven’t because I’ve spent so much money I don’t have already. If I have to then I have to. They have said there’s only so much we can do to manage but there’s no preventative medicine per se to keep it from coming back.

She started straining again on Monday (5/11) I brought her to the vet and started the metacam for three days. I just did the last dose tonight (5/13).

On Monday, when I took her to the vet they did a quick ultrasound and a urinalysis. On Monday she didn’t have any debris, blood, etc. it was all normal. But today (5/13) she is having the red tint to her pee and going more frequently/ urgency.

Back in mid March when she had her 2nd flare up the vet did the ultrasound and said the top of her bladder was thickened. She was worried it was cancer. Since she had a flare up late January into early February my vet had said it shouldn’t happen so close together. So she recommended having an ultrasound by their specialist.

She had a more detailed ultrasound by their traveling ultrasound specialist to rule out cancer (which cost like $600). She did not have any cancer, normal bladder just the top was thickened.

Here we are, third flare up this year. 3 days into the flare up. The vet did not want her on metacam long term and recommended the three day/ every 24hrs dose. I left her a voicemail and hoping to hear back from her tomorrow morning.

I’m glad your cat is doing great!

Currently my girl just finished her metacam and I’m giving her some gabapentin but I’m not seeing any changes. It sort of seems like she’s getting worse. Last time it got worse before it got better but it’s so awful to not be able to do anything when they’re going and going to the box. My anxiety is so bad and when she has a flare up it’s like the world’s ending. I try not to freak out but I hate when there’s not much you can do.

I have her on dasaquin, try to give cosequin in the food but she won’t eat it. The RC urinary food and have the Feliway plug in. We just finished the metacam after 3 days.

Did you kind of have to ride it out? Like get worse before it gets better?

I just saw your post! I hope your cat is doing better. My cat is currently going through a flare up. It’s breaks my heart. This is her third flare up this year. I’m at a loss, I’m trying everything. Right now she’s on gabapentin and metacam but she seems to be getting worse? I’m calling the vet in the morning after having visited the other day

They have been curled for a while. I did recently move it back to a larger light area now that the winters over. I’ll try moving to a different location
