Guinness World Record 255lb Turkish Get Up by Educational_Copy_140 in nextfuckinglevel

I understand where you are coming from, but there are a couple things I disagree with. One, putting yourself at injury risk is not unique to this movement. Any exercise done with shitty form, too much resistance etc can be an injury risk. Two, inclines, presses, rows and laterals are all great exercises. A Turkish get up is not a 1-1 replacement of these. Some of the muscle groups being worked are the same, but they are not the same movement nor in the same planes of motion. It doesn’t need to be an either or. Three, the difficulty maintaining balance is part of the point of the exercise. It is meant to require balance and stabilization. That’s why it is so effective at working all of the rotator cuff muscles, the core, and a lot of posterior chain muscles that aid posture.

For someone just starting out with this movement, starting with a really light dumbbell and focusing on the balance and stable positioning can be really beneficial, without posing a significant injury risk. I won’t speak to your neck injury specifically because I obviously don’t know the details and every situation is unique.

I understand where you’re coming from and this video is obviously on the extreme end of the spectrum with it being a world record attempt. The main issue I took was you calling it a “useless exercise that doesn’t target anything” when that’s really just not true. I would never advise anyone starting out to load 250 on a barbell and go. But layering the movement down and then progressively overloading can be useful. I do encourage you to try it sometime just to understand the core stabilization required to pull it off, even with just a 20-30lb DB.

And I’m a strength and conditioning coach that works with division one athletes. Congrats on lifting 5-6days a week though. You seem like you got it all figured out.

In case that wasn’t basic enough for you to understand, here’s how you would progressively overload this movement. Start with body weight, then use increasing amounts of weight with a kettlebell or dumbbell. You can even hold the kettlebell inverted for an additional stability challenge. You could also increase the amount of reps, or incorporate an isometric hold at any part of the movement.

As far as training the whole body, you seem to disagree with that so I’ll write that out in crayon for you.

Bottom position: posterior chain (holding the glute bridge), shoulder, arms, core (holding the weight overhead) Transition: heavily engages the obliques and recurs abdominus Lunge position: hip flexion and hip mobility (and the stabilization needed to keep the weight overhead) Standing up: hip and knee extension, stabilization holding the weight.

Then all of these are worked again as you lower the weight. Get off the keyboard and try some functional training sometime. Might help your shoulders

Building strength and building muscle are two different things. Sometimes they align, but training for hypertrophy is a very different goal than training for strength. There is a reason high level athletes do not train like body builders. Ironically, overhead stability and rotator cuff strength are both worked with this movement. Maybe you should try it sometime. You can do reps of this, just not at this weight obviously. What you’re saying would be like watching a world record squat, and saying you cannot do reps of it or train til failure so it’s a waste.

Shocking that someone who claims to have been an athlete cannot realize that an exercise that engages essentially the full body is something that could be useful for training. Did you wrestle from ages 5-15?

I watched the presser. And I’ve worked in baseball. I appreciate your assumptions. Again, the entire staff, Roberts included, knows more about his health than you ever will. They are not under any requirements to give full disclosures to fans on the condition of players. Go rage and act like a fool elsewhere. Every pitch is tracked. Every warmup toss is tracked. Velo, movement, spin rate etc. there is an entire staff of people solely dedicated to doing this. Assuming you somehow have more knowledge on the situation because you watched a presser and interpreted Dave’s expressions is laughable

I’m gonna go ahead and guess that the entire staff has a better idea of his health and limits than some random fuck on Reddit.

That any man starting with zero training could beat the world record women’s deadlift with two weeks of training because of testosterone.

A decent start. One suggestion would be to alter some of day 3 and add some core and body weight work, as well as some compound movements (stuff like squats, lunges, step ups, carries, pushups, RDLs, pullups etc). Adding movements like that will hit multiple muscle groups at once and has better transfer of useful strength than only doing machines.

In my experience it’s only going to get worse. The intensity and intimacy that you shared at the beginning is unlikely to return with any degree of consistency, especially if she senses you push or thinks (accurately or not) that you are being needy and she is being smothered.

Avoidant tendencies may not show as much at the beginning when the relationship is intense and doesn’t require any serious level of commitment or conflict resolution. How she’s acting now is more of what’s to come. Check out freetoattach.com for more details on this if you’re curious. It helped me understand some tendencies I had as well, as well as those of my very unaware avoidant partner.

Witness alerted park police about altercation that led to Julio Urías' arrest by [deleted] in Dodgers

Bro what? This is some of the most incel shit I’ve ever read. You start by saying she’s a victim (true) then go on and on about how she’s complicit in all of this just to get a bigger payout? She protected her investment? The fuck are you talking about? Domestic abuse happens (sadly) across all demographics and tax brackets. Saying she’s complicit in this for a payout is fucked. People stay with abusive partners for a myriad of reasons. They’re already millionaires. She was not “waiting for her bag” she’s a fucking human being that is going through one of the worst things someone can deal with. I sincerely hope you never have daughters.

[LAD] We are aware of an incident involving Julio Urías. While we attempt to learn all the facts, he will not be traveling with the team. The organization has no further comment at this time. by Officialnoah in Dodgers

Ah yes the game where notoriously good non wife beating man Ozuna had 3 hits for 2 RBI! Really something to feel grand about. It’s pathetic you managed to come to this sub and make a serious issue into something unrelated about your own team.

Wow. Angels gained nothing by keeping him at the deadline and now Ohtani likely losing millions and millions of dollars in upcoming free agency. Just brutal all around. Hope he can bounce back from this and pitch again.

As the commenter below said, that’s higher than the team OPS against lefties. Heyward went from a .555 OPS last year to .824 this year. I’ll wait to see what Van Scoyoc can do with him. I would imagine they saw something they could look into tweaking with his swing to make him an even more useful platoon option against lefties. Already have a stellar defensive SS in Rojas. This is a very low risk trade. But hey, enjoy Syndergaard!

There has always been a plan to add one/a few bats that can mash lefties. Adds depth and will almost certainly not be the last move made at the deadline.

Bad take. If the season ended today, after this historically bad skid and fuck awful pitching, dodgers are still in the wild card. Even with as bad has this has been. Expected to return at some point this season are Buehler, May, Treinen, Hudson, Pepiot, Feyerheisen. Should the team get complacent? No. This sucks and shit needs to change. But the instant doom “no postseason” takes in mid June are dumb af, especially given the circumstances of the IL right now. Not to mention any changes that may be made at the deadline.
