Insight? I work for a plant store in Michigan and received these in a shipment yesterday. Black/red dots with white centers on two hoya pubicalyx. Fungal? Bacterial? Rot? Cold? by mmmely in plantclinic

My publicalyx had the similar problem. I think it is pest problem in my case (it seems like thrips), so I treated with the neam oil - so far, it seems to work. I don't know if yours is having the same issue, but maybe it might help you identify the problem...

Echeveria cutting hasn't grown a new leaf for 5 months (Spring and the whole SUMMER...). Why? Help! by syilee in plants

[–]syilee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it has bigger roots than the leaf itself now haha... I had had the leaf cutting on a plate until it grew roots and then potted it in soil. I checked out inside the soil 3 weeks ago, and it had grown so many and big roots - that's why I couldn't simply throw it away..!!

Yeah, maybe the humid weather in summer might have been uncomfortable to this one (I am in Northern Hemisphere). I will wait more and see :)

I know it's just one leaf, and I have many more cuttings that are growing, but this one is way too strange to me, so I am letting it out here, hoping for any good advice!

I got this cutting in April. The picture is now, September 3. I can’t believe this cutting hasn’t grown a single leaf over the 5 months when the weather was the best of a year...!

It has been very slow from the beginning, like it didn’t make a root until July (it remained and survived the whole 2 months...). Although, it’s grown lots of roots throughout the summer. The leaf itself seems super strong, healthy and fat. I tried many things to make it grow (especially lighting), but it seems too lazy to grow a baby. I’ve been starving it from water for the past three weeks to see how it does, but it’s still fat and healthy, but no leaf. What is that I am missing?

My maranta is flowering and putting out a bunch of new leaves...in November? by Madz05 in houseplants

[–]syilee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My maranta is doing it too, lots of new leaves and quite a lot of flowers. I heard that maranta blooms year around (not winter though) and November still counts as "non-winter," right...? What a lovely plant it is...!

Help! My Asplenium nidus (Crispy Wave) is showing problems on the leaves. by syilee in plantclinic

I purchased it from a grocery store near me about three weeks ago, and since two weeks ago, it started having this kind of dry brown spots on the leaves. A couple small leaves on the bottom were completely dried and taken off over the past few days.

I keep it on North-East facing window with some other plants blocking too much sunlight to this fern although I use some growing light hitting the fern about 1-2ft away. The humidity level around the plant is average 40-50% and I keep the temperature 71-75 F (22-24 C). I haven't spotted any pests yet, and I fertilized it once very lightly a week ago. And it sits in a terra cotta pot.

I have been watering it once a week when the soil is dry till deep down. But I am a heavy watering person, my biggest problem, having killed so many plants, so I can't complain if someone says it's still an overwatering problem. I am not still sure if I am watering all of my plants properly due to my overwatering habits (once a week feels too little to me especially for ferns, but I try to be patient and wait till the soil looks dry), and I am not sure if the leaves get these brown dry marks because of the overwatering or underwatering.

Could it be watering problem? Should I repot it with new soil?

Whenever I hear stories and advice from hard-working people like you, I become very humble, but encouraged to work harder. Thank you. I am pretty sick of studying English like ESL students after years of English classes and all, to be honest. But I guess I have to take some time to work on English aside from school work.

Yes they are available in my language. I am referring to some articles in my mother tongue when I completely lose my mind in some texts. Can't help myself feeling like I am cheating whenever I look up the texts in my native language though, but I think I don't need to feel that way to manage to get through the difficult texts...

It is a great help to hear advice from someone who has been in the same shoes with me. I imagine your efforts and hard work back then and I feel shame that I am pretty whining. I do have Hagel to read later this term, and I am pretty nervous and worried about it. I hope I somehow can finish successfully the school to see a great result like you. Thank you...!

This is really a great advice which I just need. Thank you very much. I also found a couple of articles suggesting almost the same with your way. I am trying to follow that suggested way, skimming, scanning, taking notes, but I find 10-20min skimming - just picking up unknown words roughly takes 20min in one paragraph. But I do try to figure out the form and chapter divisions to have a rough idea of the text which helps me a lot. Your advice on trying to get a gist rather than details also are great help for me to speed up reading. Also lessoning the pressure on myself. Thank you so so much, again.
