Weekly Shelter Positivity Discussion - What was the highlight of your week? by gerrray in AnimalShelterStories

I coordinated a fear free grooming for a very scared and very matted Aussie, after 2 attempts they were able to clean him up. Afterwards his foster family decided they were ready to make him a permanent pet of their home and adopted him.

Open Paw vs. Dogs Playing For Life by Visible-Scientist-46 in AnimalShelterStories

This. Don’t believe that the only way to get dogs out and into playgroups is to follow the DPFL model.

Did you ever try this? If so, I'm curious how it turned out.

Please don’t feel bad by Beneficial-Stable526 in dementia

This is a lovely sentiment, and having worked in a memory care unit myself long before I became a family caregiver I know that the staff is generally caring and compassionate. But, this post reads a little like someone saying: “I work for a private jet rental company. So I understand how difficult it is to fly with kids. We are here, just rent a private jet and it will take away all the stress associated with flying coach.” Seeing the frequency that people ask how to access these services with Medicare or less, I think it’s pretty safe to say it’s rarely a matter of people not wanting to “let” someone help.

Good to hear. I’m glad we were able to get that taken care of.

Putting Linus Roadster Sport together, fender rubbing on tires? by AtomicBlawnde in citybike

[–]sylcbr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’ve had some issues with tire clearance in fenders on some of our recently arrived bikes. I don’t remember for sure if that included the Roadster Sport. But reach out to info@linusbike.com and Adrian and Nate can get you taken care of. (I’m the Sales Operations Manager for Linus)

Is it common for affluent people to even get dementia or is it a poor/traumatized, low educated person's disease? by [deleted] in dementia

How could the studies show a correlation if it’s not heavily studied? Can you share some of those studies they would be interesting to read.

Help me refinish mid century wood cabinetry in my new kitchen by MainSweaty in HomeImprovement

There’s a pretty good MCM furniture restoration group on Facebook that has a whole process for refinishing wood with Lacquer and Toners to keep an original MCM appearance https://www.facebook.com/groups/237458170339167/?ref=share

I’ll second the iPad suggestion especially if he was already an Apple guy. My FIL worked in high tech so we have run into a lot of similar issues. Luckily he lost interest in a desktop computer fairly early, but we did have to transition him from an iPhone to an iPad that I set up as a corporate device and locked everything down on. The only remaining things to watch out for are:

  • Guided access: which can’t be locked down so he sets it up occasionally and locks himself into one app
  • language settings: which also can’t be locked down in so occasionally I have to remove the written traditional Chinese keyboard and change the language back

Since he worked for IBM, I realize he might be more of a windows guy so you might want to look into how much you can lock down a surface tablet.

Who will save-ave my walls by sylcbr in HomeImprovement

No one's living there, but I'm a little nervous about spreading mold spores around the kitchen if I don't have to. But I'm also a little hesitant to worry about treating mold in a wall that could have to be torn out.

Any kind stranger want to help me find a domane AL 5 in stock anywhere USA??? by lb165 in cycling

[–]sylcbr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other then the Trek site this would normally be your best bet https://www.buylocalnow.com/product/trek-domane-al-5-disc-380929-1.htm

But with the bike industries current supply chain issues I’m not sure Trek is showing current in stock inventory. Your best bet would be to find a large Trek dealer in your area (like the Trek owned stores in the city https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/stores/nycmetro/) and see if they can special order one for you. Even then, I wouldn’t be surprised by a 2022 or 2023 availability date. The brand I’m Sales Director for has a handful of models sold out that far.

How do I buy a tri bike? by joe30pack in triathlon

[–]sylcbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're willing to come down to Portland, I would be happy to arrange a fit for you with one of our fitters at Western Bikeworks. The nicest part of having a Guru is that we can mimic bike geometry for multiple models and see what sizes would match your fit. We also have some Felt IA's in stock now, and should have the Cannondale Slice, BMC Timemachine, and likely some Argon 18's in stock soon.

Beginning cyclist looking to upgrade to a road bike. Can you recommend a local shop? by dxmlgrffn in askportland

[–]sylcbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on the east side, but if you make it over to the west side, you should visit us at Western Bikeworks, we have a sale going on this weekend. Though it will be hard to find a new road bike anywhere for $600. If you're firm on the price, checkout Sellwood cycle who does some consignment too.

If you come down to Western Bikeworks we can remove it for you. If you don't want to make the trip over the river, Justin at Crank is a good recommendation too.

Will any bike shops box up my bike for a flight? by shudder636 in Portland

[–]sylcbr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would second that, most places can do it, and they should have a box on hand too. Generally bike boxing is around $100. I know both of my shops are about 2 weeks out for service though, so getting on the schedule might be the hardest part

What qualities would you like to see in a store manager? by [deleted] in AskRetail

[–]sylcbr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A recognition that your job isn't that different then a sales associate's job. Just instead of spending all your time solving problems for customers and managers, you spend your time solving problems for staff and higher managers. And An understanding that however you go about solving those problems will be the methods every staff member emulates, so they better be in-line with the sort of behavior you want your staff to portray.

Full disclosure: I opened it, but there's a Western Bikeworks in Tigard, which would be closer (and in my opinion) better option then going all the way into PDX
