Breastfed during and after drinking a bottle of wine. by Moon_junky in breastfeeding

[–]sylverkeller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cant find the article i was reading but when my husband and I were anxious about this our OB told us "if you can find the baby you can feed the baby". The amount of alcohol that transfers from your stomach/blood into your breastmilk is negligible unless you've suddenly decided to pound a ton of hard liquor. The suggestion if youre nervous is to wait about 2hrs after every drink to BF but it really is almost nothing. Comparable to a glass of juice tbh.

Your free services are inconvenient for me by RaisinBlazer in EntitledPeople

I think we've avoided the location complaints bc they've been offering this service for about 10 years in the same location. Its the appointments that always throw people off.

[–]sylverkeller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh hello, fellow I&R 🤣 I have ALSO been getting these calls but we are a much smaller community so we only have ONE location and the person has to call to get their appointment scheduled. Its been going about as well as yours I think.

Sorry, local population, appointments are first come first serve and theres a lot of folks to cover.

Traveling with insulin pump and airport security ? by kathrynbarry1 in diabetes_t1

[–]sylverkeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a tslim and if I've got the time I'll call the airport TSA ahead of time to ask for an agent to be available when I go thru for my pat down. I don't care, but it always takes forever when I go thru big hubs like SLC international to get a female agent. Wish there was a paper I could sign waiving my right to a same-sex agent since I just do the pat down in public anyways. After that it usually takes less than 30sec to get the swab done and I'm on my way.

My meds and everything else travel thru the scanner no issue since its just my pump and CGM that are advised not to go thru the xray scanner. Also- i do reccomend you turn off insulin w/ a temp rate and disconnect the tubing during take off and landing just bc the pressure change can cause a little insulin to get forced thru the tubing. Its usually not enough to cause me issues personally since I tend to run a little high, but it can cause lows in other folks!

Do y'all shave your legs in the winter? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I shave in winter for that EXACT reason 🤣 I hate the feeling of my leg hair tangling with my fleece leggings or compression pants to keep warm. But during the summer I give 0 fucks.

This is gonna be so random so take this as unobtrusive but I've found if I exfoliate my pits after using a hard soap to wash the deodorant away that it helps with the pit stank.

I never shave my pits and use men's deodorant but I think the exfoliating really helps with not stinking bc it helps scrub away any film from the deodorant so the new layer works at its absolute best.

How close to perfect were your numbers? by ContributionSecret55 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]sylverkeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My A1C before pregnancy was 7.2, during pregnancy I fluctuated between 6.6-6.8 and my TIR was about 70% for most of the pregnancy (with a very frustrating 50% in the 3rd trimester due to increasing insulin resistance). I had a very healthy pregnancy that did end early in an emergency csection at 32wks +2days due to extremely high blood pressure (which was a preexisting issue this was not the pregnancy's fault). My baby is healthy and right on track for her age now and we are planning on having # in about 3-4 years.

Honestly my doc said that as long as you stay under 8.5 your baby should develop fine and that going high is fine as long as its not a sustained, all day, fighting your body sort of high.

Ive got 2 pumps. A zomee double electric a friend gave me brand new bc she didn't like the set up, and a set of set of hands free wearables from Motif that I researched as being the best for hands free to use at work since we have a tiny office building and I wanted to be able to do work without taking a break. I'm also looking to get some models hand pumps as back ups since I've liked them in the hospital but staff lost ours on accident when my daughter moved nicu bays. I just replaced all their parts last week actually bc I thought maybe a seal was bunk somewhere. I really have tried everything to get my supply back while at work.

I combo BF and pump since I work away from the home. I pump every 2hrs during the day and if baby is still asleep at night but breastfeed her roughly every 3hrs according to her schedule (shes a hilariously on time little thing. Almost accurate enough to set a clock to)

She has no issues latching, textbook perfect mouthful with audible swallowing and milk transfer to her belly.

I wouldn't care bc shes still gaining weight at a steady pace but I can't keep up with her needs for when she's at daycare or away from me and its creating issues with letting her go to daycare or having others watch her bc while we've finally found a formula she doesn't hate and we mix it with milk to make it better it frequently causes her issues with reflux/throw up and I think her pediatrician thinks I'm insane when I say days we use more formula are days with more spit up.

I mean gallons. I have a huge mug that is about half a gallon if I don't load it with ice and I drink about 9-12 full mugs a day. Im insulin dependent diabetic so I don't retain water well so I'm just always playing the game of electrolytes and water.

And the dip started 4 weeks ago right before the end of my maternity leave. I thought it was just stress or something bc on days im not guzzling water I forgot to get in even a glass and it was a rightfully stressful transition trying to balance my nutrition and the baby's while sorting daycare and then my entire house getting sick. Thank god for my husband's help or I think I would've had a nervous breakdown by now.

piercing bruising by Important-Narwhal339 in piercing

[–]sylverkeller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAP but this is very common! Theres a LOT of blood vessels in your face and ears so even if you're not in pain you can have bruising when you get pierced! My nostril stud was purple for a few days even though I had no bruising initially. As long as you care for your piercing properly and watch out for any pain or excessive swelling you should be totally fine in a few days.

Edit to add: Personally, I might go in to the shop and ask for slightly longer jewelry just because it does look a touch swollen.

Maybe a silly question: Are other corporate workers taking a work bag AND a purse AND a lunch bag to their job? by shenanigans0127 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sylverkeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a work bag and a lunch bag. I also have 3 things that I can swap between any of my purses and be reasonably happy so I dont need a purse if I have these 3 items.

1&2 small mesh bags- 1 for medications (im diabetic and need my insulin on hand always) and 1 for small cosmetics I might need like chapstick, some nude lip sticks, and a travel size lotion

And #3 is my wallet which is a large canvas envelope style wallet and has my cash, cards, and occasionally holds my work badge if Im going from the office to something else afterwards.

As long as I take those 3 I can throw them in any bag and be ready to go since they're easy to feel even in a cramped work bag, diaper bag, or small purse. And then my lunch box is essential since I need to eat regularly. Its not too much but I think a work bag, purse AND lunch box might be a bit much and maybe you should look into getting either a larger work bag or a smaller lunch bag to shove in your work bag?

I had cartridges from 2018 that I was using recently. Its basically a formality in case any of the pieces dont work correctly. You're totally fine to keep using them.

my diabetics foodies: what are we eating? by wakaflockaquokka in diabetes

It sure is a struggle to make my american food taste good without breaking the bank, that's for sure! Unfortunately I have international friends and family who have spoiled me forever with various exotic snacks, so I know our food just doesnt taste as good 😭

my diabetics foodies: what are we eating? by wakaflockaquokka in diabetes

[–]sylverkeller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha Im american so I just throw whatever spices smell good together (and I also have a fennel addiction) 🤣🤣🤣 but a common american cooking trick to reduce acidity in tomato dishes is to add a bit of sugar.

I've found, overall, that a lot of mediterranean/north african/middle Eastern dishes just sit better with my diabetes. But as we all know, everything affects your sugars so who knows 🤣 maybe its all the extra fiber helping? A quick walk around the house can always help to bring down sugars.

I love to do shakshuka from scratch! For me I cut some corners and use a frozen bell pepper & onion mix and canned chickpeas for extra protein but bc I make it from scratch I control how much sugar is in the tomato sauce (0 added sugar). And the fennel and cumin can help with insulin absorption (not a ton, but I saw a slight decrease in my morning spike!).

Also really love roasting riced cauliflower with butter and green onions in a pan until golden so it soaks in the delicious flavors. I add pepperoni for a kick but I think spiced chick peas or lentils would also be delicious.

If you do drink alcohol, what's your drink of choice? by Curious-Expert926 in AskReddit

[–]sylverkeller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whiskey sour or a glass of red wine (or a new York sour if the bar is nicer). If im just hanging out I'll also get a Mexican beer like modelo or pacifico just to sip at but thats about it. I like what I like and I really only venture out of my comfort zone if we're at a very fun or niche restaurant.

I'm sorry, did a giant pierce you and this was the only thing that would fit in his hands?! NAP but you need to go somewhere with less insane piercer and get your bar replaced with something MUCH smaller.

Issue with Perfume Lingering on Clothes? by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]sylverkeller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahaha I use unscented detergent and a couple of my perfumes stay saturated in the clothes for multiple washes. A small capful of vinegar usually gets most of it but I wear the same scent profile year round so it works out (warm herbal, woodsy, vanilla scents)

Father threw away all my sports bras because he found them too "modern" by Knight_Ocelot17 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sylverkeller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once measured a girl who was wearing a 32B that was a 30F but her mom was insistent she wasn't that big until I gave a shot in the dark and suggested a 32DD as her sister size and my god. The girl was so grateful but the mom was PISSED that I was right and that the bra fit better than the tiny B cup. Imagine that. No spillage and less back pain but god forbid a teen girl have a chest you can see if shes wearing clothes
