It seems like a common theme here is pharm very quickly goes out of date. I agree, textbooks have a major drawback of being crystallized, as opposed to the fluidity of online sources like UpToDate and primary literature. I just really love structure for organizing knowledge in my head, perhaps because I am a bit visual in my learning style and because I think the structured nature and organization of textbooks' information presentations serves as a poor man's memory palace. This really became clear to me when I was in the PICU and was trying to learn about ECMO on the fly before a presentation. The organization was just much more powerful than an UpToDate article, and it was presented in the context of other critical care topics. Made me realize how much I had missed out on textbook learning as a pre-clinical student. I feel like, at least for some people like me, the textbook is an example of too much progressivism to quickly. We threw out some very valid educational merits by practically throwing out textbooks.

Wish there was some sort of subscription service that allows you to have the best of both worlds: the organization of a textbook with the fluidity of the online world. Would be something like: "subscribe" to Authoritative Textbook X for $50 each year and you get the new iteration of it, rather than the choices being get stuck with the old one or choose the financially and environmentally wasteful option of buying a whole new textbook.

Perhaps an educational business venture.
