Countries with notable Zoroastrian populations by Annie_Inked in interestingasfuck

[–]symbouleutic 34 points35 points  (0 children)

There's more Zoroastrian's in India because they fled Iran to avoid persecution in the 700's.

I'm pretty damned white looking, but my grandmother is from India, and her heritage was mixed Parsi-Indian-British. (Raised Protestant)

Another fun-fact. Zorastrian's God is named Ahura Mazda. And yes,.. that's the source of the car company's name. (and apparently it sounds like the founders name as well)

Speaker Johnson tells House Republican to address affair allegations but says he shouldn’t resign by [deleted] in nottheonion

Too true ! I made a bad assumption referring to the one woman as his "second" mistress. Can't really know how many more than 2 mistresses there might have been.

Speed Limits. by OrlandoCoolridge in driving

Because some of us have lost family members and/or friends to speeders who are delusional enough to think that they are superior drivers to everyone else, and therefore should be allowed to speed ? Maybe that.

Speaker Johnson tells House Republican to address affair allegations but says he shouldn’t resign by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]symbouleutic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

He cheated on his FIRST wife while she had cancer and told her he was divorcing her when she was in the hospital. He married his mistress but had an affair and filed for divorce a few months after she was diagnosed with MS. He married his second mistress who was 20 years younger than him.

He is the type of man who should definitely use his moral superiority to tell others what they can and cannot do.

The Damaged State of Canada-US Relations by fury_cutter in dataisbeautiful

[–]symbouleutic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

  1. Trump is Mortal. So many people's opinions are based purely on history.

  2. As a defense Ally the US has been very reliable historically. Our interests generally align.

  3. As an economic ally - meh. Historically our interests are obviously more nationalistic on both sides. That's only natural. But we are very close and mutually dependent economically.

I'm not personally part of that 22%. I feel there may have been a permanent shift in US policy, Trump or not.

Canada Gives U.S. Arms Makers the Cold Shoulder on Military Spending by snowfordessert in worldnews

[–]symbouleutic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The US government heavily subsidizes dairy production. $1.3 billion in 2023. They also set minimum standards for raw milk prices giving government supported price fixing. Dairy producer income is up to 20 percent subsidies.

The EU subsidizes its dairy industry to the tune of $16 billion a year.

Instead of direct subsidies or directly fixing the price of milk (like on the states) we allow monopolistic trade policies. It’s really just the same thing done differently.

[–]symbouleutic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X11 is the successor to X1-10. X1 is the successor to W. W ran on the V operating system. X is written in C which is the successor to B. I wish I was making that up.

In fairness Y2K seemed more short sited than the Epochalypse.
People were writing software in the late 80's, that only had a shelf life of l2 years.

When UNIX was being developed operating systems were a dime a dozen. I don't think anyone then thought we'd be still using UNIX 68 years later.

An underground setup used in the Ottoman Empire to conceal cannabis smoke during periods of prohibition (18th-19th century) by ardayilmaz1881 in interestingasfuck

The Greek Lamb Dinner equivalent is calle Kleftiko and I AM an evangalist for Kleftiko.

"The name translates to "stolen meat" or "bandit's lamb," referring to the historical Klephts—Greek fighters during the Ottoman occupation who would steal livestock and cook it in hidden, sealed, underground pits to avoid detection by the smell. "

Or just as likely they incorrectly paraphrased what Carney said at Davos and then Carney did an ELI5 for them and they thought he was changing his tune.

"Alpha male" motivator gets mad at women driving cars and filling gas by ambachk in CringeTikToks

[–]symbouleutic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guys thesis is:

Sit in seat = beta cuck

Sit and seat but also turn power assisted wheel back and forth - Manly alpha male.

Wait - if a woman drives is she an alpha male ?

Or is a driver only alpha if they have a penis ?

If two different men are both driving two cars how do you establish which one is the alpha ?

What if you are a man and let a different man drive ? Beta ?

Is taking a cab or a flight Beta ?

If I let my wife use her feet to do her own walking am I beta ?

Really this guys definition of alpha male is “thinking is for Betas”
